A far below average dining experience.
While ordering, I asked for a starter and a main course; I noticed another main on the menu I preferred to what I had initially asked for, so told the waiter I'd go with that for my main instead.
The waiter showed up with my main at which point I asked where my starter was. He explained that he understood that I only wanted the main. Keep in mind, he never read my order back to me to confirm his understanding. Rather than taking the main back to the kitchen and bringing me my starter, as would be the case at most establishments and given it was his mistake, the waiter suggested I eat the main after which he would bring me my starter. I politely declined.
After setting the dish down, the waiter never made another appearance. I was not asked how the meal was, if I wanted something else to drink or anything else. Once I'd finished the dish, I indicated as much with my cutlery and waited to see how long it would take for the plate to be cleared. A good 20 minutes before anyone on staff noticed; interesting given, if anything, the venue is over-staffed.
In terms of the food itself, it was very basic. Nothing unique or creative about it and I'm certain it's something one could easily make themselves at home. I am also convinced the mashed potatoes on the side of my chicken were from a box. I left hungry and considered picking up a hot dog on my way home.
The ambience was decent enough though there was a strong smell of fish throughout the restaurant.
With all of the interesting dining options in Reykjavík, I would not recommend wasting a meal at Snaps.
Edit: Downgrading this from two stars to one because, to top it all off, the food made me sick and I had to run home at the...
Read moreCozy, average bistro food, sub-par service. Expect to spend a lot of time waiting on service.
Had a table booked at 14:00 but had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, waiter brought the wrong menus and I couldn't get the passing servers attention to get the right menu, took about 10 minutes to get that cleared. Ordered an americano which did not arrive until 15 minutes later, the coffee was good though. Ordered a surf and turf brioche sandwich and a beef tartar. Sandwich was tasty and beef was well cooked, would have liked a bit more lobster (3 small pieces to the whole sandwich). Tartar was very basic with red onions and capers, topped with an herb salad and sadly, underseasoned. Both dishes were served with a side of fries that were overcooked and not salted. Had to flag down a waiter to ask for salt and condiments, ordered aioli and received plain mayo. Afterwards we ordered a chocolate cake with ice cream and chocolate sauce, and apple/cinnamon pancakes. Chocolate cake was alright, but I find the addition of the chocolate sauce did not add anything to the dish, other than filling up space on the plate. Pancakes were fluffy and good. Prices are high and are not reflecting the quality of the food, you're just paying for sitting in a nice dining hall. I aired my frustration regarding waiting times to the waiter after waiting 5 minutes by the register hoping to get someone's attention so I could pay. His reply was that "I'lll take better care of you next time". Spent around 12.000 króna on a mediocre dining experience, my recommendation is that if you're looking for good food, there are far better places...
Read moreFrom past reviews it seemed great but even outside the restaurant I had a bad vibe. Though we had no reservation we were able to get a table, however the waiter seemed not very attentive. We sat and took maybe 10 minutes for drinks. I have a serious seafood and nut allergy especially with cross contamination. I had ordered the pork rib and asked about the seafood situation, waiter kinda brushed it off. I also asked for no salad with the meal (came with one) as the salad came with walnuts. Food comes, salad is there ok fun. The plate had a very strong cranberry scent from the pickled cabbage, called it a Yankee candle dinner with my family as it bleed throughout the dish which was fine I guess (pickled cabbage not my thing but to each their own). However the pork belly incredibly soft so that was nice. Rest of the plate was kinda inedible. Champagne glasses were dropped and spilt all over my mom so they took off the drinks off our bill which was nice but overall didn't have a great dining experience,...
