After a spiritual visit to Maa Kamakhya Temple, we decided to revisit JB’s in Fancy Bazar for brunch. This was not our first stop here post-darshan, but this time we encountered some difficulties with parking. Street-side parking was hard to find, and crossing the road to reach JB’s required extra caution.
Food Experience We ordered three items: the Shahi Thali, Garlic Lovers platter, and a Veg Thali. The Shahi Thali was a classic spread with two vegetable curries, dal, salad, a butter naan, lachha paratha, veg pulao, papad, and a sweet. However, it was a bit disappointing as the name promised a regal experience, but the taste was average at best. The dessert in the thali was especially lacking in quality.
The Garlic Lovers platter included kali dal bukhara, paneer butter masala, garlic naan, vinegar onions, and lemon. The rich flavors of garlic and spices in this platter were the highlight of the meal. We also tried the Veg Thali, which came with rice, dal, a paneer dish, papad, and salad. This thali was fairly standard but acceptable in taste.
Our lime soda was refreshing and well-prepared, offering a much-needed coolness to the meal.
Ambiance and Cleanliness A major drawback was the cleanliness. The bathroom was not well-maintained, which was a letdown, especially in a busy dining establishment like this one.
Final Thoughts Overall, while JB’s provides a decent variety of food options with some hits and misses, the experience was not entirely satisfying due to issues with food quality in the thali and lack of cleanliness. It's a convenient spot after a temple visit, but a few improvements could enhance...
Read moreBehavior- The staff of this restaurant(Machkhowa Outlet) is so rude. The waiters, whose main job is to serve the customers fail to do so. I mean, you've to literally beg them to come to you. When we asked one of the waiters to hand over a bottle of water he seemed so annoyed and replied rudely. We were sitting near the door to the Kitchen and the waiter literally kicked and opened the door right in front of us. I mean, how pathetic is that. There were only 2 families and even then we had to wait for like 5-10 mins to get the waiters to listen to us. I would request the owner to hire people who have at least basic manners and etiquettes. Food- Coming to the food, we ordered Pani Poori - 4/5 Tandoori Pizza- 2/5 (If you wanna have pizza with no pizza sauce and cheese, try this pizza which was more of a parantha with sabzi on top) Dark Forest Pastry- 3/5 ( The pastry lacked moisture) Coffee- 5/5 The only good thing other than the pani poori.
Overall, I would say go somewhere else where you would be treated as valueable customers and not beggars who are being served food for...
Read moreWent for lunch on diwali day but the waiter very rudely informed us that the only food available was dosas and that they would be closing after lunch( we reached at 1.30 pm)and so we ordered masala dosas. They had tasteless potato masala filling inside, bland and tasteless white chutney and the worst sambhar I had ever had in my life . All the waiters had so much attitude. One waiter flatly refused to switch off the ac said the remote was lost and finally another waiter agreed to switch it off. There was so many flies and the place was so filthy. For this dump of a restaurant the food is priced very high. Each masala dosa came for 110₹ and my cheese doas costed 130₹. This is the worst place to spend a festival lunch with parents. The waiters acted like they were governors( not kidding) rude and very very arrogant. Definitely best avoided place in case you are near the beautiful river front. I am forced to give one star because there is no...
