A recent visit to AECS layout for buying Ganesha for Chathurthi surprised me with this new mammoth building in what used to be an empty dumping ground. I realised it’s the new outlet of Asha Tiffins and made a mental note to visit soon for a tryout.
Asha Tiffins is a quick service restaurant based out of HSR, has spread its wings, quiet widely to kundalahalli.
Our plan for a breakfast outing is simple, order a variety of breakfast dishes, share and end with a Cuppa coffee, so we have tried a variety of breakfast dishes.
This time we picked Asha Tiffins, and here are our first impressions.
A dedicated car parking space is worth appreciating, specifically in the space-crunched, tight roads of AECS
The menu is very minimal, with the Chinese counter yet to be operational (probably for lunch & dinner, but not during breakfast)
The billing process was relatively quick, and the pricing is extremely reasonable, ₹15 for a single idly or a single vada, surprisingly both the plain and the masala dose is priced at ₹30. Half cup Coffee was priced at ₹12 which is feel is very reasonable for the quality & quantity that they served.
The idly was nice, fluffy and pillowy soft, with the Sambar dip it was even more fabulous. The watery chutney was a bit tad sour, not sure what happened in there, it was not spilt but suspiciously sour.
The Dosa, slightly smaller to the other Udupi cousins, was something I loved, it was a perfect size, perfectly crispy on the outside, with a dose of ghee, and softy thick inside. The thick Chutney served was delicious as compared to the thin one served with the idly. Dose doesn’t come with Sambar and can be purchased as add on.
The vada was crispy and delicious, yet the size and shape resembled a kodubale.
The Kesaribath was nice, yet was delicious overpowered by cloves, which could have been avoided
The kharabath however was refreshingly very tasty and very well done.
We were very disappointed that they don’t have poori saagu on the menu, that’s something that I highly recommend that they add in the menu.
The coffee was probably the highlight of the entire meal, it was perfectly made with the right level of balance between the bitter and sweet, one of the best coffees in a long time.
We packed some Gulab Jamoons, without knowing if there is a connection with supposedly popular Asha sweets. Nevertheless, the Jamoons were simply fabulous, very real, very close to a homemade perfection. We have already done a couple of visits just to get the Gulab Jamoons.
The place was overcrowded on a weekend morning and there wasn’t much of social distancing practiced, so be cautious. It’s mostly a stand and eat kind of a place, with minimal seating options.
A refreshing new change to the regular Udupi restaurants, though the menu and taste is fairly similar and comparable to any other Udupi’s out there.

Read moreMy 7th visit in 30 days and there isn't one morning that I wasn't anything less then impressed by everything that I saw and ate. The entire office made a day trip out of it and several repeat trips to satisfy the now hungry horde left everyone satiated. At 9.30 a.m the hugely convenient parking lot to the right was filling up.Two parking assistants made parking a breeze. Every thing about Asha ticks all the boxes The immaculate cleanliness, the entire kitchen process on disply right from the massive windows overlooking the massive dosa counter which is the cynosure of everyone salivating and waiting , the plate and glass wash windows, the massive gulab jamuns served at the corner window, the strikingly perfect Uddinbele vadas shoulder to shoulder with the rawa idlis coming steaming out of the sparkling streamers, catching the early morning mist of the AECS layout mingling with the superb, absolutely superb coffee in the corner. One bite and the surreal look on the face of everyone at the table confirmed that we were enjoying probably the best masala dosa in Bengaluru. The savoury warmth of the hot dosa on the palate that precedes the crunch of the red rust brown dosa reminiscent of the red laterite rocks of Karnataka paired beautifully with the green coriander and karivaisoppu coconut chutney. The strikingly perfect Uddinbele vadas and the steaming white rawa idlis paired with the eager sambar waiting to be dunked. The crust of the vadas held their own against their soft interiors. The idlis were achingly soft , warm and pliant, melting in the mouth with a gentle nudge of the dorsum. The customs of the land decreed that the remenants of the warm sambar be drunk with a light tilt of the buffed mill edge of the plate. The aroma of the flecked yellow pongal did tempt but wafts of the filter coffee won. Aroma, aftertaste, acidity, body , flavour and another two dozen gustatory and olefactory describing words come to mind with the first sip of the filter coffee. The richness of the 5% buffalo fat and the body offered by high SNF counts lent credentials to this superb coffee. The sweetness was just right and the crescendo of flavours that rush through the senses elicited satisfactory smiles around the table long before the 96mg of caffeine got the synapses firing.A perfect hour of breakfast, nodded everyone and down to earth prices. A good day had begun...
Read moreAsha Tiffins in AECS Layout is one of the most reliable places for tasty and budget-friendly vegetarian food in this area. The location is very convenient, right on Kundanahalli Main Road, opposite the BBMP ward office, and the place is easy to spot. The ambience is clean, simple, and family-friendly with both indoor and outdoor seating available. It’s also wheelchair accessible and a good place to stop by with kids or friends. Even during busy hours, the place is fairly well-maintained. Food here is the highlight – fresh, flavorful, and well-priced. Their South Indian meals are wholesome and filling, with rice, chapati, curries, rasam, sambar, curd rice, papad, and a sweet, all for a very reasonable price. The mini tiffin combo is also great if you want to try a little of everything – idli, vada, dosa, and chow chow bath in one plate. Dosai, pongal, idlis, and filter coffee are consistently good, and their cold coffee is surprisingly popular too. Service is quick and efficient, and the staff manages the crowd well despite rush hours. Prices are very affordable (around ₹200–₹250 for two people), making it an excellent choice for daily meals or casual dining. On the downside, the place does get crowded during peak breakfast and dinner hours, and you might have to wait for your order. Portion sizes can feel slightly small to some, but for the price point, it’s still great value for money. Overall, Asha Tiffins is a dependable spot for anyone looking for fresh, hygienic, and authentic vegetarian food in AECS Layout. Perfect for breakfast, quick tiffins, or a simple satisfying meal. Highly recommended if you’re in and around...
