Aurum Brew Works is a rooftop brewery located in Sarjapur, Bengaluru serving some fantastic brews in a partly open to air setting that takes full advantage of the perfect weather all year around.
On a recent visit I got to savour some of their wonderful brews along with a special pairing of food curated from the Chef's secret menu that is not listed. Do ask for some of these offerings that am sure the Chef is happy to present to you, subject to availability.
On the brew front they had a Belgian Wit, Simcoe IPA, Belgian Dark Strong Ale, English Strong Bitter and Lager, but what impressed me was their cider, which is not something that you usually find in the breweries of Bengaluru. It was crisp, and deliciously fantastic, highly recommended and I can't wait to get back here just for their cider.
I kickstarted with their succulent persian chicken kebabs that were mildly infused with middle eastern spices and perfectly cooked on a charcoal grill. The smoky flavours added to the mild spices and that cook on the kebab was perfect, succulent and juicy, definitely recommended.
The Deep fried Brie from the Chef's menu was beautifully crispy nugget with a creamy lava of brie oozing out, a perfect pair with the IPA
The grilled prawns had a perfect cook on them and the spices were just right with a surprise side of battered and deep fried eggplant side which I believe should be a dish by itself as it outshone the hero, the prawns were supposed to be.
The chili mushroom, again from the Chef's signature menu, was probably something that is the best in Bengaluru, with a right cook on the mushrooms and that mild coating ensured it was perfectly crispy outer, on juicy, and meaty mushroom halves.
It was not just the Chef who had the secret menu, the bartending section presented us with two customized cocktails, a Royal Lounge, whisky based peach infused cocktail with a burnt rosemary twig, a combination that was mildly fruity and herby at the same time.
The second creation was a classic Gin n Tonic, but with a tinge of an Indian spice cordial that made it all the more interesting with notes of cinnamon, interlaced with star anise giving it that much needed punch of gin or without it.
For mains the choice was between a loaded veggie pizza and a Thai Green Curry, we decided to opt for both and share. While the pizza was customised by the Chef with added bell peppers, it was a perfect pan pizza that two of us managed to actually finish, it was that good, definitely recommended.
The Thai curry was definitely flavoursome, had all the right thai spices for that authentic touch, the creamy and spicy curry went perfectly with that fragrant rice just so well, yet we could not slurp finish everything up, as we had to make room for dessert.
Starting the dessert course with the ever popular Tres Leches, and the version here was beautifully spongy cake soaked perfectly in all the three variants of delicious milk preps, I can say with confidence that this was one of the best versions available in Namma Bengaluru.
The second dessert was a classic Phirni, with a very berry twist. Served in an edible dark chocolate cup, and topped with a sweet sour berry compote, it was a beautiful play of a sweet classic indian dessert with a very international sour berry topping, that just made sense in the palate, a perfect end to the fabulous meal.
The menu is not just limited to what we sampled, they have a huge array of short eats, and small plates with a wide pizza, burger and mains that includes a few sizzlers, to perfectly pair with the fantastic brews and cider. One of the highlights of my visit was the foosball table they have on-site. It added an extra element of fun and excitement to the evening, allowing me to challenge my friends and enjoy some friendly competition. It's a fantastic addition that sets Aurum Brew Works apart from other establishments.
The attention to detail in the decor is truly impressive. The interior is adorned with tasteful and elegant elements, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Read moreIn case you guys haven't figured it out yet, Au on the periodic table stands for the element Aurum - Gold.
Beer in it's simplest form, a lager is liquid gold isn't it?
You'll see shades of gold wherever you look. Spread over two floors, this 23,000 sq ft Brewpub has mix of indoor and outdoor space on the lower level and a dedicated outdoor rooftop space.
I tried the sampler set and then had room just for 2 wonderful pints. Contrary to popular gossip, I don't drink guzzle gallons rather I savor each sip over the course of the evening.
I work for myself and hence am never in a rush - slow and steady is the way to go.
The Pilsner, as good as ever - malty, a hint of sweetness, plenty of carbonation and a nice floral hop finish. You can drink buckets of this (slowly).
Then I did stuff myself with the watermelon feta salad with these pop in the mouth balasmic pods. Dheeraj ordered something classic from Mangalore - delightful balls coupled with some wonderful chutney.
The menu has dishes from all over the globe and I love they haven't missed out Karnataka. Moving on to my favorite the bacon, beef loaded potato...mmm mmm mmm - outstanding!
I paired that with a the Falconer's Flight pale ale - not overly hoppy but this blend of 7 "C" hops from the US gives you everything from tropical to floral to citrus as far as flavor and aroma. This is one of those bang for your buck type of dual purpose hops that you can use for both bittering and aroma/flavor.
This is definitely the definition of a session pale ale. Not overly boozy or bitter but easy going just like George, the brewer is. Nicely done mate!
The other beers were fine. I'm not going into great detail because I didn't have proper pints of them and these are still early batches. You can't expect everything to be hunky dory right from the get go.
If you are that good, something isn't right with the person writing the review.
Cheers &...
