Dear Burma Burma Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share some feedback regarding a recent visit to your restaurant.
On 29 July 2024, I dined with family and friends at your establishment and we were looking forward to a pleasant experience. However, we encountered an issue that I felt needed to be brought to your attention. My daughter, who is 6 years old, just wanted a serving of plain noodles for dinner. I requested your staff member, whose name is Ame, for this and he was happy to oblige. He gave us one portion of plain noodles and the serving size was small (probably equal to 1/3rd portion of a full order of jasmine rice). My daughter finished it and asked for more. When I requested Ame for this he said he would “check” with the chef. I didn’t think anything of this comment at the time but when he returned with the noodles he said “this is the last one, no more”. What he said and the tone used annoyed me because I did not realize that the noodles were “on the house”. When I placed the order I was fully expecting it to be something I would be charged for. Beyond that, I did not know it was a policy of your restaurant to not serve children beyond a certain portion if the said item was “on the house”. I am not sure if it was the chef/kitchen staff who instructed Ame to make clear to us that we cannot have more plain noodles.
I understand that restaurants have their own policies and limitations, but the response and tone used was uncalled for. Further, if there is something you cannot charge us for, and if this is such a monumental issue for your restaurant to accommodate, please deny the request rather than provide us with the item begrudgingly. I also noted you do not have a kids menu, so I assume you may have frequent requests for customization for the palettes of picky eaters. Potentially, you just don’t want to welcome families with small children to your establishment. If this is the case then I suggest you update your policy to make it clear that children are not welcome.
I did speak to Mr. Roy who was the manager after the meal. He apologized and said there was a miscommunication between the kitchen and the serving staff (though it seemed to me everyone was communicating fine). He also said that I was charged for only 1 dark chocolate ice cream instead of two. I assume this was to make amends for the earlier issue with Ame and I admit it was my failing to not identify this error when I first checked the bill. I immediately requested I be billed for the ice cream which he refused to do. I therefore request you to kindly send me a bill for the one scoop of ice cream and I will settle it. I am not interested in any freebies.
I hope that this feedback can be taken constructively. Apart from the above, the food and service was excellent. However my poor experience with your serving staff on the request for my daughter has ensured I will not visit your establishment in the future and I would not be recommending you to any of my friends and family.
I will be posting this email as a 1 star review on google/zomato (I don’t have the time or patience to type a separate review) so as to warn others patrons who plan to visit your restaurant with small children.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I have attached a copy of the bill for...
Read moreWow- there is simply no other way to start my review except with that word. We came for lunch right at opening at 12 pm on a friday- it took some time to fill up the restaurant but after a little, it gets extremely crowded so I would highly recommend coming at opening if you can't wait. However, the crowd and wait are only due to how good the restaurant is. The atmosphere is beautiful, it really makes you feel as if you are eating authentic Burmese cuisine in Myanmar itself, and the entire experience from ambience to food to service really transports you from India to a whole new world. We ordered the biscoff bubble tea, and while it was a smaller portion, that's probably only due to how quickly I drank it because of how good it was. It was nothing like bubble tea I had drank before and was completely new while also sticking to original values of the drink. We also ordered lotus crisps which felt like healthy chips and gave you a unique crunch in your mouth as well as a burst of flavor as if a balloon popped in your mouth. We also ordered their signature khao suay which was absolutely delectable in its flavours which put a unique palate of flavours delicately on your tongue. We also ordered the Burmese style falooda which was nothing like anything I had ever seen before yet still tasted as amazing as any other falooda but with an interesting Burmese twist that only elevated the flavors and dish as a whole. Our servers were extremely kind and attentive, even as the crowd started to settle in the servers made sure our every need and request was attended to and we were not left hanging without any assistance. The price was extremely affordable and completely reasonable for the sheer quality of the food you were being served. Overall, I would one hundred percent recommend this restaurant- it's a great place to go by yourself, with friends, or with family and enjoy some awesome food in a beautiful Burmese environment being pampered as if you were in a five star hotel while also paying as if it was street food. Don't miss out on the opportunity to go to burma burma, you will leave with no regrets and the experience will leave memories that you will never forget for the rest of your life. It might sound like I'm exaggerating, but this is truly how I felt about this restaurant. And if you are reading to this point, it is a sign from the heavens to stop whatever you are doing and go to burma burma right now, whether it's for the first time or you've been before. There will be no regrets or negativity...
Read moreI tried out Burma Burma, Brigade road, on a busy Saturday afternoon. We tried all courses and my review is given below.
1.) Bamboo soup - This was recommended by the waiter and had a very refreshing taste. The pleasant fragrance of lemon grass, infused with other delicate spices blended beautifully and was a treat to the senses. 2.) Steam bun with roasted onion - I had read that steam buns were a speciality here and ordered the onion filling. Suffice to say, this was personally the best dish for me. The buns were softer than feathers and the filling was yummy ( it was slightly sweet). There are many other options too, popular being soya / tofu. Since personally for me, being a vegetarian, all such protein foods are practically eaten everywhere, I suggest trying out the other flavours. I plan to try out the jackfruit one next time! 3.) Chilli garlic noodles - For the main course, we decided to try noodles and the waiter suggested that we try the chilli garlic one. It was very tasty and didn't feel heavy on the stomach at all. Actually, that is the speciality of all dishes. But yes, the dish is not that spicy, despite its name. I gather that the place uses spice sparingly! 4.) Mock meat skewer - My friend suggested trying this out, since it's the most famous dish here. Made of soya, it appears exactly like chicken when you take a bite and the texture is similar too. The taste is nice, but personally for me, their other dishes are better. 5.) Baked Rangoon milk - For dessert, we ordered this dish, which has a really detailed description. I was sceptical about the quantity, fearing the portion might be big. My fears were unfounded. The dish itself is small and the centre of attraction is the rose petals, which the waiter sprinkled over the dish. Personally, I didn't like the taste of the rose with the dish. But, the baked milk was yummy and not too sweet. The accompanying titbits were satisfying too. But, compared to other dishes, this definitely is overpriced. The icing on the cake is the different varieties of sauces and toppings, that are provided with the dishes, especially the noodles, as you can see in the picture.
The service is super fast, even on a crowded weekend. Overall, a satisfying lunch and the best part is even after eating this much, we didn't feel full or bloated. They use fresh ingredients in their food and rice noodles. Hence, the lightness of the stomach. The dishes are definitely priced on the higher side, but can be indulged...
