Got an opportunity to visit ‘Cable Car’ for an office get-together a few days back. Was anxiously waiting for the experience, especially after going through some very nice reviews on Zomato and with the fact that it is a pure vegetarian restaurant. More so, one of the colleagues mentioned that the restaurant has been around for more than 10 years and is themed around the world famous ‘Cable Cars’ In San Francisco – couldn’t really wait.
Being cognizant of the magnitude of spread and variety of food offered at 'Cable Car', we had reserved the table for very early in the evening (around 7 PM esp. with recommendation from one of the colleague who stays in Jayanagar). I was pleasantly surprised to see the place gushing with people even that early on a weekday. We were greeted with warm smiles & hospitality by the courteous staff at ‘Cable Car’ and in no time, we were on the gourmet ride.
We started with the appetizing servings of ‘Tom Kha’ & ‘Sweet-Corn Soup’ – ‘Tom Kha’ which is special tangy Thai soup made from coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass, lime juice & herbs was delectably yummy and a perfect start. This was followed by servings of ‘Paneer Dil Bahar’ and ‘Veg Kur Kure Kabab’ – both dishes signature to ‘Cable Car’. ‘Paneer Dil Bahar’ is Paneer stuffed with nuts and cheese marinated in red masala, equally delicious as it was appealing to the eyes. ‘Veg Kur Kure’ were the crunchy mix vegetable patties coated with crisp papad. The ride continued without breaks, and we tried their ‘Aallo Bondas’, ‘Greek Traingles’, ‘Papdi Chat’, ‘Honey Chilly Potato’, ‘Dosa’, ‘Onion Uttapam’ – all indeed very delicious. When we thought that maybe that was all with respect to starters and we could jump onto the mains, the table in-charge served us ‘Crunchy Noodle Wrapped Vegetables’ - this was the first time I saw such an innovative dish made of noodles, AND CERTAINLY A MUST TRY. ‘Cable Car’ also has on offering a selection of finely crafted must-try mocktails like ‘Dragon Twist’ (made from Mango Juice, Fresh Cream & Chocolate Syrup), ‘Black Current Punch’ (made from Cranberry Juice, Fresh Cream & Black Current), ‘Apple Punch’, ‘Virgin Mojito’ and ‘Kiwi Margharita’ to name a few.
There was this gentleman who was making sure that all the guests were being served well and were having a good time. He was having conversations with the guests on all the tables, soliciting feedback and also telling us about the history of the place. We later realized that he was 'Mr. Srikanth', the owner of SFO Hotel - which 'Cable Car' is a part of. Through conversations, we realized that he stayed in San Francisco Bay Area for a period of 16 years and was deeply fascinated by the cultural vibrancy and beauty of the place, hence decided to open a hotel with its name and ambiance dedicated to 'San Francisco'.
After having snacks and barbecue, we were barely left with any space for dinner. However, we decided to have a look at the spread, which was again spectacular - with a wide variety of Indian and Continental dishes. I took some Nawab Tarkari Biryani, Dal Makhni & Paneer Hyderabadi, Vegetable Raita, White Rice & Thai Green Curry - everything was delicious and rich, complemented with the freshly prepared breads, served on the table. There was also a delicious spread of salads to choose from, I personally like the ‘Corn Salad’ & ‘Okra Salad’, which were very unique. Last but not the least, we tried a few dishes from desserts section - which was again an enormous spread, leaving us spoilt for choices yet again. I settled for the Mango Ice Cream, Gulab Jamun, Champakali, and Jalebi. On Srikanth Sir’s suggestion, also tried their ‘Anjeer Halwa’ – which was melt-in-the-mouth deliciously yummy. No surprises, every dessert was prepared to perfection with lots of love.
We will never forget the customer delight & hospitality that we experienced at ‘Cable Car’, and would definitely recommend the place to everybody - and ideal place for personal & professional celebrations &...

On Saturday afternoon, my daughter and I went to the lunch buffet at cable car, I'd been here before the pandemic and it wasn't too bad. But now, right off the bad I noticed that they didn't do temperature checks or anything at the entrance, which is slightly concerning, considering it is a buffet n people would be touching the same serving spoons n stuff, but we still went ahead. Once we enter, we realized that this place was a "fish market", it was heavily crowded and the area where the food is set up is so narrow and small that people literally have to stand on top of each other to be able to get food. People were just standing anywhere they wanted to, right next to the food area and eating there, the staff didn't nothing to control the crowd We'd have to wait at least 10 minutes to get through the thick crowd and reach the food!! Just imagine that kind of situation during the pandemic! Dangerous! And nobody was wearing masks, including some of the waiters, no gloves either. It was an extremely scary situation and we just ate n a hurry n had to leave, even the seating spaces were so cramped. The AC was too high. All of these are a big no-no during a pandemic. It felt like going to a crowded wedding and fighting to get a turn at the buffet to get some food! All this when are paying 600rs per head! Ridiculous! Also, the variety of dishes wasn't as much as it used to be before the pandemic, the taste was extremely mediocre. Next, the hygiene issues! Because of the crowd, the staff were not able to maintain hygiene, I saw people literally using their hands to take food, as serving spoons were missing. Kids and adults were dunking the spoons in the dishes n just leaving it there, it was a big, scary, filthy mess! The staff were so tired n distracted, because of the crowd, we had to wait almost 20 mins to get the rotis! The hand-wash area was also filthy! And lastly, even to pay the bill we had to wait in a crowded, cramped line!! They didn't get it to our table!I'm extremely disappointed and disgusted! Never going to this place again, especially not...
