Am a huge fan of artisan breads, be it from France or Italy, or much closer home, Japan, but haven't really explored the craft bakes from Germany, until recently. I bumped upon Brezelhaus, the craft baking house representing authentic breads from Germany. Helmed under the supervision of Senior Head Chef Anton, this bakery and bistro serves authentic freshly crafted German bakes that refreshes the world of baking in Namma Ooru. Located in the quaint lanes of Koramangla, this bistro is where I headed for a quick snack and came back very happy. Kickstarted with a classic pretzel with a cheese twist, that was beautifully baked with a wonderful texture complimented by that salty cheese, it was bread heaven. This is my first time trying a pretzel, apart from the more commercially available mini biscuits served by a few airlines, and I was amazed to know that Pretzel is originally and authentically from Germany. This freshly baked goodness is recognized by it's signature dough that is shaped into a knot before baking. The texture was rightly aerated and mildly chewy, reminding me of a bagel, especially with that glaze on top.
Being a vegetarian that day, I opted for a Fried Eggplant sandwich, that was served between the superbly baked kasebrotchen, a baguette-like bun in a cheese version. I tasted the eggplant separately. It was very salty, but when I had it as a sandwich it was surprisingly well balanced and perfectly seasoned. Somehow the bread had taken the responsibility of balancing not just the texture, but also the seasoning beautifully.
For desserts, we had the fluffy Berliners or should I say Krapfen, the German jam doughnut without a hole but with a filling, usually jam. Our choice of chocolate was beautifully fried and dusted with sugar snow, it was a perfect and wonderful way to enjoy what this German bistro has to offer.
Lastly, we could not leave without trying the German Chocolate cake, that was simply perfect and the ganache on the cake was superb. I left the place with a few of their baked buns and my new favourite cheese kasebrotchen home and picked up a cold brew from Blue Tokai range that gets served here and headed home.
Ideally this place is a haven for meat lovers as this has several meaty options that includes mostly the humble chicken, and some delicious pork as bacon as well as some great cold cut versions and sausages, I am definitely visiting them again to try their non-vegetarian part...
Read moreI have not much experience in German food,so can't say the breads and all are authentic. The presentation and taste was definitely good. Not much pricey also. Will recommend their egg shakshouka and berliner for sure. They are having a tastefully decorated interior with several sections like floor sitting area, balcony area etc.Lots of board games and books are there for those who want to sit and relax/have fun time with friends.
HOWEVER,they have to improve big time on their service quality. They collect 8.5% service charge on the bill amount. And in my case,my family was completely ignored. Not sure if it was because we were sitting in the upstairs area.Initial order was taken and delivered quickly. But after that,no one bothered to come check on us for our continued order. We were out of bread to finish our shakshouka and we had to wait for about 20-30mins for someone to come and place our bread order.By the time the gravy was already cold. The bread came after another 10-15 minutes again. This sort of service is not at all acceptable particularly when an added service charge also is there.
I would like the management to buckle up and improve on the service part. Its not about the service charge. But the expectation of the customer that comes along with it .Time is valuable for all. Also, the staff should be proactive about suggesting the food and portion sizes. For example,in my case,it was apparent for a shakshouka, the complimentary bread provided would not be enough to finish the gravy. The staff should have suggested me to order more bread. For the same reason, giving 2 stars as of now. Otherwise, this place is a...
Read moreWhat an absolute gem of a place! German BrezelHaus nails the balance between authentic German flavors and a cozy, welcoming bistro vibe. From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and full of inviting aromas â exactly what youâd want from a European-style bakery and cafĂ©.
We went all out and tried a variety of dishes, and nearly everything hit the mark. The Bacon & Cheese Pfannkuchen was fluffy, savoury, and generously stuffed â a definite highlight. The Bratwurst Pork Sandwich was deliciously juicy, served with just the right balance of tang and spice. The Hot Chocolate deserves a special mention â rich, velvety, and easily one of the best weâve had in Bangalore.
The Schwarzwald Spritzer was refreshing and paired beautifully with the meat-heavy dishes. The Bacon Cheese Pretzel had good flavor, though felt like a slightly oilier cousin of the Pfannkuchen â maybe we shouldâve picked a different flavor for contrast. The German Chocolate Cake was indulgent and decadent, perfect for those with a sweet tooth to wrap up the meal.
What tied it all together was the friendly and attentive staff â warm service, helpful suggestions, and no delays even though the place had a steady crowd. The ambiance, complete with subtle European elements and soft music, made it a great brunch spot that weâd happily come back to.
If youâre in Indiranagar and looking for something different from the usual cafĂ© crowd â this place is a must-try. Whether itâs for a hot drink, a filling sandwich, or a relaxed weekend brunch with some hearty meats, German BrezelHaus hits the spot. Highly...
