Read moreJust being honest, I didn't really enjoy House of Commons. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it. But let's start with the good things: 1. As advertised, it is a house of commons. Lots of different kinds of people all looking drink and relax with friends in a casual environment. 2. Good location. However, finding parking is tough. 3. It is affordable. Not mind-blowingly affordable, but definitely on the cheaper side for a bar in this part of town.
Now, here's why I didn't enjoy my time at HOC: 1. Food wasn't great. I only finished the food on my plate because I had payed for it, not because I was enjoying it. If I do come back to HOC I will be sticking to alcohol. 2. Furniture/decorations didn't leave an impression. If anything, the whole place felt disjointed and in an unintentional sort of way. 3. Ambience wasn't great. Walking down the stairs to the lower level, my first impression was that the place smelled like stale cigarette smoke. It was also quite noisy, I heard many people shouting in order to have face-to-face conversations with their friends, which is not ideal for a casual hangout spot. Music was too loud, and there was this incredibly annoying and persistent speaker malfunction for the duration of my time at HOC. When I notified our server, he just shrugged. Speaking of which, 4. Service was OK. Hard to get the attention of servers as they don't scan the room often enough. Language barrier was also a struggle.
Maybe my expectations were too high. The high ratings on Google Maps and Zomato made me confident that I would enjoy my experience at HOC, but I was unexpectedly...
