There are still confusions between Delhi Karim's and this Kareem's. Let's make it very clear, this Kareem's is much older and Delhi based Karim's just entered Kolkata a few months ago. Although both are famous for their Biryani.
Chicken Peshawri Tikka @ Rs.390 (5/5) This starter was amazing, a must try. Creamy spicy kebabs, just don't have any words to explain. 6 pieces in a plate.
Kareem's Special Chicken Potli Kebab @ 460 (5/5) This was something new and I tried it for the first time. Minced chicken mixed with cashew and peanuts stuffed and roasted in a layer then covered with cream. Delicious but really really heavy on stomach because of ghee. Only 4 pieces in a plate but 2 are enough to make you full.
Kareem's Special Mutton Dum Biryani @ Rs.290 (2/5) I was about to order Kareem's Special Raan Biryani that costs almost Rs.2500, thank god I didn't.
I went for their Rs.290 Mutton Special Dum Biryani with one potato, no egg and 2 pieces of mutton. Please note Rs.290-310 is the standard pricing for most of the good dining restaurants like Arsalan, Aminia, India etc. Where as their full plate comes at Rs.370.
But you're in Kolkata serving Kolkata Biryani so please know what Kolkata loves in their Biryani. Although there were 2 pieces of mutton but it was really small, not really juicy, bit too dry, hard and totally missed the fat part.
Their 3 pieces of mutton makes one piece of Arsalan and their 4 pieces makes one piece of Dada Boudi's Mutton. So you get my point. Potato was flavourless. Biryani rice doesn't hold any flavour of Mutton that should be present in Dum Biryani. Rice quantity for Rs.290 is half of what is served by others at the same price point also too much attar was used.
Overall it really disappointed me. If Biryani chose India, Arsalan or Haji Ali any day over them.
Negligible orders We also took Chicken Akbari & Naan that deserves negligible mention. Portion size for the main course was good but taste wise it felt very ordinary.
In drinks I took their speciality Cucumber Cooler, it was really good but half glass was filled with ice. So Rs.190 for 150ml of drink, really really expensive.
Service and Staff If the food is good usually I don't care for the service much but here their staff really argue a lot. Their service is a bit slow that is understandable but as I visited them for the first time I didn't have any idea about their portion size.
So I ordered for 3 naans at first, they served 1 and as we were almost full till that time I asked them to cancel 3 naans and make it only 2 in total. They then served us 2 naans in place of 1 after almost 15 minutes when we were almost done. When I told them that I already asked them to cancel 1, they started arguing that it is prepared and cannot be cancelled. What nonsense, if it was prepared then why did you serve it after 15 minutes?
Conclusion Don't go there for their Biryani because they don't even stand in front of other Biryani giants in and near Kolkata. Rather try their speciality Kebabs and take a cucumber cooler with it, this combination is...
Read moreKareem’s is one of the biggest Brands of Mughlai Cuisine in whole India or probably the world. Treating us with good food since 1995, Kareem’s opened this Sector V outlet on 2017. This restaurant will amaze you with its classiness & professionalism.
The first thing which strikes you and will make you feel right at home is the humble behaviour of every staff. I have never been welcomed and made felt special this way before. They were always there and helped us in any kind of situation even if they were really small issues.
The two storeyed restaurant is decorated beautifully with a beautiful stair case, laid back sitting area on both floors (enough for 130 people at a time), a huge mirror on the wall and the cosy waiting lounge. Every corner of this place oozes royalty.
The food surely justifies the brand name. Normally I recommend only a few dishes from a huge number of items from a restaurant. But Kareem’s won me over with every single dish. The dishes we had were,
Chicken Peshowari Tikka
A tomato based sauce is easy to mess up and it can make the dish really sour and non-appetizing. But this chicken peshowari tikkas had the perfect amount of delicious sauce with flavourful and soft chicken pieces. One of the best Tikkas I have ever had.
Mutton Nalli Barra Kebab
Being a Bengali, mutton nallis are always my favourite and now imagine having it as a kebab. The mutton was flavourful with the rib being quite juicy. I loved it. Recommended.
Butter Garlic Prawn
Prawns beautifully flavoured in butter garlic sauce, one of the best appetizers Kareem’s serve.
Tangdi Kulfi Kebab
Best among the bests. This dish was like heaven on earth. I mean chicken & cheese; how can you not love the combination? Soft kebab topped with generous amount of cheese sauce, I would recommend to share a single dish if you are planning to have main course as it is quite heavy and can kill your appetite.
Murgh Musallam
This was my first-time having Musallam and I have to say it stands by its popularity. It was served with Zafrani Pulao and the combination was just perfect.
Chicken Hara Masala
Chicken Curry based of various green items like coriander, mint & green chillies, it was just a perfect side dish to have with rotis/naan.
Dum ki Chaap
Mutton Ribs cooked in spicy chaap/gravy, another perfect dish to have with Biryani/Pulao or rotis.
Mutton Rara Masala
Mutton Rara Masala is made of mutton pieces & mutton keema. The gravy was spicy red and quite delectable.
Raan Biryani
My first time having Raan Biryani and it blew my mind off completely. Flavourful Zafrani rice filled with mutton pieces, this was just so delectable. The quantity is enough for 5 and have to say the best dish served by Kareem’s.
Malai Firni
The creamy texture of the firni was just perfect and it helped us to end our day in a sweet note.
This was possibly one of my best outdoor food experiences and I cherished every single moment of it.
Thank you, Kareem’s for the...

Coming to the things I've tried,
Mocktails
Cucumber Cooler (₹190) Green Apple Ice Tea (₹140) Watermelon mojito (₹170)
The drinks were refreshing. Specially the Ice tea. I loved it. They do have varieties of mocktails. I've tried only a few so if you're visiting, you can try something else as well. You might get surprised.
Starter
Chicken Tangdi Kulfi Kebab (₹430) : This one is a chef's special. I've asked the speciality about the dish and as they've told me that it takes around 30minutes to cook just one kulfi kebab. It comes in a wrapped silver foil and inside that silver foil you'll the juiciest tangdi covered with cream.
Mutton Nalli Barra Kebab (₹550) : Nalli pieces introduced in a kebab style. Sounds amazing right? Definitely something that you should order if you're into nalli and bone marrow.
Main course
Mutton Nalli Rarra Masala (₹590) : A popular dish from the northern part of India where mutton pieces are introduced with mutton keema to give the gravy more richness and texture. Nalli pieces are used mostly so that people who loves bone marrow, they can have a reason to fall for the dish.
Dum Ka Chaap (₹550) : The flavor of charcoal gives the dish a tandoori flavor. I'd suggest you to get a naan if you're ordering this but this goes equally well with the biryani as well.
Kareem's Special Raan Biryani (₹2490) : Nothing can beat this beast. The best Rann biryani I've ever tasted. The whole plate can serve at least 6 person. The biryani was topped with big mutton mutton pieces. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you haven't tried this already. I'd definitely suggest you to try this once.
Dessert
Malai Firni (₹160) : One of the best firni I've ever tried. The creamy texture and the taste was heavenly.
The hospitality was heartwarming. They do serve finger bowl on the table with a dash of lime dipped into the lukewarm water. Every staff was cooperative. Loved the experience.
If you love mughlai cuisine and haven't visited yet, this should be on your...
