Nizam's Restaurant – Esplanade, Kolkata

The name echoes through Kolkata’s culinary history like a spicy whisper of nostalgia. Nizam’s is where the Kathi Roll was supposedly born. We went in with hungry hopes and legendary expectations.

📍Location & How to Reach: A short walk from Esplanade Metro Station (Blue Line). It’s on Hogg Street, tucked behind the New Market chaos. If you’re not using Google Maps, just follow the smell of kebabs and the crowd.

🍴Experience: We tried three items—each told a different story.

Egg Chicken Kathi Roll – Excellent. The paratha had the perfect chew, the chicken was juicy, and the egg sealed the deal. It was bold, greasy in the best way, and honestly lived up to the hype.

Murgh Malai Kebab – Average. Soft, yes. But a bit too subtle on flavor, like it was holding back. Could’ve used more char, more punch.

Firni – The star of the show. Cold, creamy, lightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. If your meal ends with this, you’ll walk out happy no matter what.

The ambiance is old-school—shared tables, a bit cramped, but classic. Service is functional, not fancy. It’s not the kind of place where waiters smile and ask how your day was—it’s more like “Here’s your food, next!” But that’s part of the charm.

Overall? Good. Not unforgettable, but worth visiting—especially if you haven’t tried their roll or firni yet. Just don't go expecting royalty; go expecting street...

So we went there 6 people. First, I am coming to the Food We have ordered 1.Butter naan 2.Chicken butter masala 3. NORMAL PARATHA So every food was pathetic. The most important thing they provided plum oil instead of butter. The charges was 65 per bread. The cheapest and third class restaurant I have ever visited till date. 2.The chicken was too much pathetic, there was no taste at all. It was so hard to chew. 3.I have mentioned NORMAL PARATHA previously in bold, so that you can understand that the picture which I have provided it is not omlette or papad. It was that oily, you can’t even smell it.

They are just tricking people, do not visit this restaurant even if you are very hungry..

Oh and the atmosphere also not good. Very little space to sit and AC was not...

Particular Saltlake outlet is pathetic for many reasons In takeway the food quality is worst, thay just make it warm in microwave (specially kebabs) Environment and atmosphere is very very bad, AC is not working, they are using fan. U will clearly find few family members of cockroaches, just roaming around Using only table fans Only UPI OR CARDS are accepted (Paperless transaction is ok if u get proper network, in this building network is pathetic)

So these all are my personal opinion it may vary from experience...
