Food was very good. Not too spicy and suitable for all age group. Ambience was great - the cutlary, lighting, wall art, seating arrangements - all lived up to the expectations. I went with my family (Senior Citizens) on a Sunday afternoon. I did a prebooking from Zomato the day before and we arrived around 1 PM. Going early was definitely helpful since we did not have to wait and got a table immediately. The staff was helpful in getting us a table of our choice. We ordered the Unlimited Non-Veg Thali with was about Rs. 1450 per person (No welcome drinks included). I was aware that my family members would not be able to eat that much, but I still wanted to give them the 'delight factor' with the famous thali that offers 20+ items across starters, main course and deserts. There was indeed a 'wow' when we finally saw the thali. So that part went pretty well! The price on the weekend is on the higher side and we spent Rs. 2250 per person for (1 Non Veg Thali + 2 Sharbats) each. Sharbats were Gondhoraj Ghol and Aam Poda Sharbat costing about ~Rs 250 per drink. As expected, my elderly family members were not able to finish many of the food items, I think 15-20% of the items. Since it is not the restaurant's current policy to allow packing the unfinished thali items, there was a lot of food wastage. At the end of the day, it is not a good feeling to have that 15-20% of the money we paid for, went straight into the restaurant's dustbin! It is not a sustainable choice really. Not money wise, not environment wise either. So, I feel a 'Gurujan Thali' option which is basically a 'Limited and Cheaper Thali' available only for senior citizens (>60 years) may help save food wastage and also can be a little cheaper than the Unlimited option. I request the Sonar Tori restaurant owners to look into the feasibility and viability of this option and do something to improve the restaurant's sustainability metric further. Good experience overall. Will visit again.

**This restuarant assembles different tastes of Bengali cuisine. **Ambience- Proper Zamindari touch gives an outstanding look to it's interior. The sitting arrangement at the fine dining are is absolutely gorgeous. They have 3 PDRs (Private Dining Rooms) which is used for private group parties. One is the open PDR where visitors can use for smoking. Rests are the closed PDRs which are designed in a theme of dining halls of a royal palace. I am so attracted with this place. **Food- I opted for their "ILISH UTSOV" menu which is available from 15th August to 14th September. In this course they serve different types of items of hilsa fish. •From "ILISH UTSOV" I ordered for- °°Ilish Macher Tikki- This is made with mainly boneless hilsa fish, smashed with onion, green chilli & other spices. It is served with onion salad & kasundi or mustard sauce. °°Podda Nadir Majhider Ilish- This delicacy is a typical Bangladeshi cuisine which is observed among the fishermen of Bangladesh. Firstly, the big piece of hilsa is sauted into oil. Then cooked in a curry which is flavoured with onion, garlic, ginger, tomato & seasoned with a special masala. This is absolutely droolworthy! °°Sonar Tori Ilish Platter- This jumbo thali includes- ^Gobindobhog Bhaat ^Macher Tel ^Ilish Bhaja ^Ilish Macher Tikki ^Pui Diyae Ilisher Matha ^Sorse Ilish ^Bhapa Sandesh (This baked sandesh has a prominent flavour of gondhoraj lemon) •I also took some dishes from their A-La-Carte Menu- °°Mutton Keema Chop- Minced mutton balls are dipped into egg batter, then coated with bread crumbs & finally deep fried into oil. Amazing. °°Vetki Fish Fry- Fresh vetki fish fillet seanoned with kasundi/ mustard sauce. This is perfect for start your meal. °°Daaber Icecream- It tastes like a real tender coconut. Simple yet beautiful texture! I am blown! **Staffs Behaviour- Staffs were courteous & they always ware mask, gloves, head caps which is impressive. **Come & enjoy!

Sonar Tori has completely blown away my mind mainly with it's Bengali Cuisine that glorifies the Bengali culture which has evolved out of several historical culinary cultures, like those of the Mughals, the Europeans and of course the indigenous agrarian class. The seating area is well spread out with one section at the entrance which is also the main dining area, then there is a small outdoor space too, in case you love greenery around with a view of the city. For big groups who would prefer a private section, don't worry at all here there is one big one and a smaller one too. Coming back to the food, i just want to say do not miss out eating here if you are already living at Kolkata or you have plans to travel at Kolkata anytime soon. The kind of experience you will get here is going to be very special. Sonar Tori is indeed a treasure to cherish and talk about for the culinary excellence in Bengali cuisine it embraces with such cultural grace and aura. I was here recently to feast on their Thali's and i must admit, it has been one of the best Thali eating experiences in a very long time. The Thali is an unlimited sit down meal which you will get serviced by the staff. Initially they will start with small portions keeping in mind food wastage but you are free to ask as much as you would want to ask, they would be happy to serve you if there is a need. There are two types of Thali's served for Lunch and Dinner - "Veg Thali" at 799 + taxes "Non-Veg Thali" at 949 + taxes Dishes that are served in the Veg menu are Chana Koraishutir Tikki, Kathi Roll, Daler Dhokna Dal, Begun Basanti, Phoolkopi Motor Shutir Torkari, chutney, papad and dessert. Dishes that are served in the Non veg menu are Radhuni Grilled fish, Manghsher Skeeh Kabab, Kumro Bhate, Aloo Bhate, Begun Bhate, Sagh Bhaja, Luchi, Aloo dum, Cholar Dal, Rice, Katla Macher Sorshe Posto Jhal, Murgi Kosha, Kochi Pathar Jhol, Chutney, Papad and dessert.

Edit: This is why brand names still matter. The restaurant folks got in touch after I posted my feedback & took serious note of the complaints promising to take care of them. This effort to please customer also matters. The lady at front desk is a gem- please treasure her. I did order online again & this time the food was absolutely mouthwatering. So the chef is talented but maybe he just had a bad day when I was visiting. The in restaurant service still needs good attention. Order ala carte. ***Old review*** Been trying to pay a visit here since a while simply coz of my fascination of eating in "kashar bashon" & word of mouth. Takes a painfully long time to serve main course dishes (i mean come on- your starters are pint sized & finish in a jiffy!) They wont even tell you the whole menu.I had to literally coax the server if they have anything beyond the gondhoraj sondesh to which he nodded saying they have chutney which was again served after ages. Taste/quality: The items are not even served hot! The food does not taste very good so im glad in a way abt the lil quantity because i wasn't guilted into wasting much. The only reason i wanted to take a second helping of prawn was becoz of the amount i paid & return on investment factor. But then thought otherwise & canceled. Cost: I paid ~ 1800 for two ppl- thoroughly underfed both because of reluctance of either sides to either order more( coz of taste & bad service) or serve less ( the servers couldn't care less- they dont even visit your table to offer water! ) Avoid. Unless they take a hint or two from negative reviews & really pay attention to their service & food preparation AND QUANTITY & make improvements. Places like Rajdhani also do thalis with bite sized portions but their staff is on the run trying to refill all the time. Please learn from them.

Clueless me standing at calcutta airport on my first visit to #westbenagal #kolkata I book my uber and with my Google search and consulting few at the airport. I head to city centre mall - salk lake City. Upon arrival my first question to the staffs at the mall "where can I eat proper bengali cuisine? " As suggested we go to "Sonar Tori" First experience - the door is locked 🔐 but i still had a hope & I was stubborn to that if I eat it will be in Sonar Tori only 😜 Nupur drapped in bengali sari with a smile opens the door and tells us "Sir, we will open at 1200 hrs." 🤭 She was kind to let us keep our luggage at the restaurant. So that we can go to her suggested "tea junction - for the tea while we wait for the restaurant to open " 30-45 minutes wait" Finally we get to enter at 1200 hours and I am mesmerised with the decoration, the interior, the lighting, welcoming hospitality of Nupur, Shreya & rest of the staff. Nupur - suggested a thali for me and my friend who was on diet she suggested 👉 Betki Macher Paturi "I must say what a recommendation - we love it" My Thali had delicacies as below: 👉Aloo bhate - mash potato 👉Kumro bhate - pumpkin 👉Oal bhate - yam 👉Bhat 👉Mishti pulao 👉Cholar dal 👉Aloor dam 👉Fish fry 👉Mangsher shami kabab 👉Jhuri aloo bhaja 👉Sag bhaja 👉Luchi 👉Pomphret sorshe bata 👉Chingri malai curry / prawn 👉Murgir Kosha 👉Payesh All these mentioned above are unlimited and you can gave as many serving as you can. Bhim was polite and patience to help me explain about the cuisines on my plate.! To all the locals in Kolkata & visitors like me. I strongly recommend you to experience "Sonar Tori" Thank you Nupur, Shreya, Bhim, the amazing chef who is behind the curtain working so hard so that we love our food & the entire staff for your kind hospitality.

Sonartori is one of finest addition to the city's food culture . The grandure and the extravagant decor paired with the delicious food will transport you straight to the zamindari era and make you feel no less than royal. As you enter , the first thing that catches your eye is the beautifully done up interiors keeping in mind the heritage of bengal . They have a huge sprawling space with private rooms in case you want a more elusive space for your family and friends. We had opted for the bengali for grand thali and a couple of dishes separately The Nonveg thali is priced at 1549Al and the veg one at 1249 Al. My personal favourite being the starter plate which included Chicken kebab Mutton galwati Fish fry Palong chingrir bora The fish was succulent and flavourful and the palong bora was something I would keep coming back for. The main thali included an array of some of the popular bengali dishes like Cholar dal ,Mutton kosha, shorshe illish . We ordered Mocchar chop ,mochar ghonto along with this which were delicious . We ended our hearty meal by polishing off a plate of aam sandesh and payesh .The aam sandesh had just the perfect balance of sweet to balance out your tastebuds. The service is prompt and hasslefree with the staff making sure to always cater to your requests. If you are looking to explore the rich cuisine of bengal in an aesthetic and artistic ambinace then this is the place to be . #weekendouting #foodblogger #foodstagram #bonggirl #bongfoodie #kolkatagram #kolkatabuzz #sonartori #kolkatadiaries #kolkatatobangalore #yummyness #instalunch #munchingmonks #keepmunching
