An Utter Disaster of a Dining Experience at Orient, City Center Salt Lake
If you’re looking for an absolute waste of time, money, and patience, then by all means, visit Orient at City Center Salt Lake. What was supposed to be a special birthday lunch for my mother-in-law turned into an appalling display of mismanagement, indifference, and sheer incompetence.
At first glance, the ambiance seemed promising—the lighting, sofa arrangement, and table setup created an illusion of comfort. But that illusion shattered soon enough when the stifling heat inside the restaurant made us sweat profusely, completely ruining the mood. Apparently, maintaining a decent temperature for guests was too much to ask.
The service was just as disappointing. The staff informed us that starters would be served on the table, while the main course would be available in the buffet spread. What arrived first was a pitiful serving of momos—barely enough to constitute a single bite per person. When my brother-in-law asked the servers to leave the plate on the table for convenience, they outright refused, as if fulfilling such a basic request was beneath them. And instead of offering refills proactively, we had to repeatedly beg for more food.
The buffet spread was where things took a turn for the worse. The available selection was laughably inadequate, with barely any variety, and to top it off, the fish smelled absolutely rancid. How a supposedly reputable restaurant could serve seafood in such a disgraceful state is beyond comprehension. The servers, meanwhile, seemed disinterested and detached, only responding when we repeatedly flagged them down for the simplest of requests.
As for desserts—calling it a “section” is a joke. There was practically nothing worth eating. We asked for ice cream, only to be met with another waiting game. When we finally insisted, the restaurant staff provided it with the attitude that they were doing us a huge favor, as if basic hospitality was optional.
If all this wasn’t bad enough, the final insult came with the bill. A 500 Rs service charge had been sneakily included—without our consent. Who knew incompetence came at such a steep price? And when confronted, only then was it removed, as though they were hoping guests wouldn’t notice.
Orient at City Center Salt Lake is a prime example of everything that is wrong with dining establishments today—overpriced mediocrity, horrendous service, and zero accountability. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that respects its customers. This place does not deserve a single rupee, let alone a...
Read moreThis fine dine restaurant I came across a number of times in both CC1 and Cc2 and had good reviews and hence one of the weekend for the lunch went with family and tried their lunch buffet. The lunch buffet price was ₹799 plus gst which came around ₹849 per person.
The soup and starter was served on the table, the salads, maincourse and desserts were requested to take out from the counter.
Among soup, chicken manchow and starter 2 veg(crispy honey chilli potato and some veg ball, expected a way better in this price tag) and 2 non veg starters with chicken and basa fish were pretty ordinary specially with the priceline, tastewise they though were okay but not worthy of the value at all compared to Haka. I wondered they never offered any sushi or dimsum or dumplings which are the base of a typical chinese cuisine.
The salads were good and we got the raw papaya salad which was awesome and definitely worth of mention.
Among maincourse, from non veg the prawn and from veg the thai curry were decent but it seemed like the menu was never designed thoughtful way, coz the thai curry never goes well with veg hakka noodles or chicken fried rice, though upon asking I received a small bowl of white rice which could accompany the later well.
The dessert section was a complete mess, darsan was soggy, vanilla ice cream with no choco syrup or chocochips seemed forced and the chocolate cake was decent but the pudding was half done and clearly the egg smell was there.
Overall, I cannot recommend anyone for their buffet as this price never do justice with the foods u get, and quality also never match of a fine dine. The service was very very poor, slow and at times annoying. Dessert spoon, plates are not serviced, refills are coming very late, no one bothers to clear ur plates from the table, no one asks for refil of water on glass, requested for kimchi salad and they said they would prepare it and almost at the end of the service informed its taking time so not doing is not at all worthy.
The bad part is if you do not notice they will add a service charge of 10% which should be optional on your overall bill and charge you, though i noticed and only upon asking they removed that amount.
Also with this price you wont get any drinks in your buffet so I would suggest to go for a little cheaper buffet of Haka or a little pricier like Mainland China but...
Read moreHad Great Expectations, Wasn't Upto the Mark... . So on my recent trip to Kolkata we were searching for a good place for family lunch. After spending time on Zomato we finally narrowed down on The Orient which looked quite promising by the pictures... . Baring a couple of dishes none of the other items impressed us rather there were some very disappointing dishes , and for a restaurant which portrays itself as a fine dine restaurant the service also wasn't upto the mark.
As soon as the first salad was served they immediately bought the 2nd dish, we had to tell them to take it back but since it was dumpling they couldn't take it back as it would spoil the dish so we said ok, Now even before we finished our 2nd dish they bought the soup which annoyed us and we had to send it back, mind you the entire restaurant was empty and there was no reason for the service to be rushed.. . Coming to the food Thai Raw Papaya Salad: This was the best dish of our lunch I loved the flavors a delicious salad (4/5)
Asparagus Corn Water Chestnut dumplings: A decent dish but felt the size to be smaller than the ones which are served in other restaurant nothing exceptional. (3/5)
Now comes the Horror 😭 Tom Yum soup: Omg this was the worst Tom Yum I have ever had, it felt like some masalas was just mixed and something was served in the name of soup. Think of it as a very badly made Rasam extra masala and extra spicy. Don't you dare try this (0/5)
We thought our nightmare was over but no Veg Nigiri Platter awaited us: The server asked us that would we like the wasabi to be added inside it or seperately, we said it's fine you can add it inside, that was our biggest mistake: boom bam one bite into this Nigiri and we were in hell the amount of Wasabi these people added was like a novice chef didn't knew how to work with wasabi. We just gulped it down feeling the smoke coming out of nose, ears and wiping our watering eyes.( - 100 / 5 ) Worst
In Main Course Stir Fried Exotic Vegetables was good loved their flavours but the portion size could be improved (3/5)
PokChoi Bamboo Shoots Gravy was bland and tasteless and didn't enjoy it as well...
