Read moreBooked 2 deluxe rooms for a night in December and my experience was quite unsatisfactory given their facilities, room space and 'staff'.
The rooms were quite nice, had a cozy business vibe to them but the shower was unbearably small.
Upon entering and laying down to rest after a massive flight layover, my mattress' spring broke down and there was this crater in my bed which was quite uncomfortable. The bed's side frame had wheatish mold on it too. Contacted the reception, informed them of the issue, and asked them to kindly get this issue resolved while we were out for a stroll, exploring Kolkata's nightlife.
Just as I stepped foot into my room, a person from maintenance entered my room - behind me, without my permission, to supposedly inform me that the mattress has been changed. His tone was way off and creepy, as if they did a favour, even though I was being grateful for their service trying to get them to respect my privacy and leave.
The next morning way before my mentioned check out time at 8:30am, another staff from maintenance was at my room's door - and as soon as I answered the door, he asked me to step out of the room while he did a "routine-check" to see if I brought along any damage to the property. He went through my stuff, my clothes, the closet, toiletries and bathroom essentials. Checked on the hair dryer, TV, the safe inside the locker and asked if I harmed the property in any way.
Neither of these are major issues by themselves, but these combined together with their tones and attitude made me feel quite invaded and disrespected.
Oh, and did I talk about the reception staff? Quite rude, intimidating (not in a good way) and unapproachable. I brought this routine check issue up with the male receptionist, which he said was mandatory and was a part of the hotel's routines. Reconfirmed this with another guest checking out of another deluxe room, and they weren't a part of this "ROUTINE" check.
Throughout my stay I had this constant feeling as if I'm a parasite leeching out...
Read moreI am never going back to this hotel and I would never recommend stay at De Sovrani, specially if you are planning any function in the premise or nearby and planning to stay with extended family for a longer time.
I stayed with my extended family for my sister's marriage, for almost a week and my take way from that stay is very bad. The front desk people are very rude, there is serious room service issue and if you call management mentioning your issue, you get to hear "okay call the person who was dealing you for long for your stay, I don't care" and hung up on your face.
In winter time, there was no hot water coming in the bathroom. We complained several time, and they said "oh its a known issue. You keep your water running for 10-15 min and eventually you might get hot water". In a world, where people tries to save water, this is their resolution for 7-8 rooms full of guests. While checking out, we mentioned these issues and all we were told "oh sorry about that".
The only good take way was the restaurant inside de sovrani and the people there are exceptional in service. They are very prompt with services and very attentive to what their guests have to say. The taste of all foods and the food spread was good enough.
So please consider multiple times before you book a stay at De Sovrani and if you really have other options , even for a slightly upper price, I would say go for those and get a...
