Booked 2 deluxe rooms for a night in December and my experience was quite unsatisfactory given their facilities, room space and 'staff'.

The rooms were quite nice, had a cozy business vibe to them but the shower was unbearably small.

Upon entering and laying down to rest after a massive flight layover, my mattress' spring broke down and there was this crater in my bed which was quite uncomfortable. The bed's side frame had wheatish mold on it too. Contacted the reception, informed them of the issue, and asked them to kindly get this issue resolved while we were out for a stroll, exploring Kolkata's nightlife.

Just as I stepped foot into my room, a person from maintenance entered my room - behind me, without my permission, to supposedly inform me that the mattress has been changed. His tone was way off and creepy, as if they did a favour, even though I was being grateful for their service trying to get them to respect my privacy and leave.

The next morning way before my mentioned check out time at 8:30am, another staff from maintenance was at my room's door - and as soon as I answered the door, he asked me to step out of the room while he did a "routine-check" to see if I brought along any damage to the property. He went through my stuff, my clothes, the closet, toiletries and bathroom essentials. Checked on the hair dryer, TV, the safe inside the locker and asked if I harmed the property in any way.

Neither of these are major issues by themselves, but these combined together with their tones and attitude made me feel quite invaded and disrespected.

Oh, and did I talk about the reception staff? Quite rude, intimidating (not in a good way) and unapproachable. I brought this routine check issue up with the male receptionist, which he said was mandatory and was a part of the hotel's routines. Reconfirmed this with another guest checking out of another deluxe room, and they weren't a part of this "ROUTINE" check.

Throughout my stay I had this constant feeling as if I'm a parasite leeching out...

I am never going back to this hotel and I would never recommend stay at De Sovrani, specially if you are planning any function in the premise or nearby and planning to stay with extended family for a longer time.

I stayed with my extended family for my sister's marriage, for almost a week and my take way from that stay is very bad. The front desk people are very rude, there is serious room service issue and if you call management mentioning your issue, you get to hear "okay call the person who was dealing you for long for your stay, I don't care" and hung up on your face.

In winter time, there was no hot water coming in the bathroom. We complained several time, and they said "oh its a known issue. You keep your water running for 10-15 min and eventually you might get hot water". In a world, where people tries to save water, this is their resolution for 7-8 rooms full of guests. While checking out, we mentioned these issues and all we were told "oh sorry about that".

The only good take way was the restaurant inside de sovrani and the people there are exceptional in service. They are very prompt with services and very attentive to what their guests have to say. The taste of all foods and the food spread was good enough.

So please consider multiple times before you book a stay at De Sovrani and if you really have other options , even for a slightly upper price, I would say go for those and get a...

I have visited this place on Saturday last month and have taken the buffet lunch. I thought that it was Bengali Buffet but after reached there I got to know that it's Chinese buffet. Bengali Buffet is served only on Sunday. Lets talk about the ambience, its just live 5 star hotel. Restaurant is very well decorated with fancy design items along with Jhar and all. Even the washroom is also decorated with well design mirrors and lights. 5 ⭐ for decoration. Regarding the buffet, variety of salads were there like chicken, kimchi having good taste. Starter is good but you cannot compare with Barbeque or ABS. Mostly they served chicken items. I guess there was a fish starter but I didn't like that too much... About the main course, chicken Biryani was good and rest of them are OK types. Minimum food items are chicken related whose taste are average or you can say more than average but not too good. But I like the desert. Misti Doi and Firni was fabulous. Too good. Sahi Tukra was not that much soft that I had tasted earlier. Overall 5 ⭐ for decoration and 3 ⭐ for food.

It was Doshomi night during Durga Puja in Kolkata. Time was 2.30 am and we were really tired running around from one hotel to another looking for dinner. Most of the hotels and restaurants were either heavily crowded or had no parking space or was about to shut down. Just when I was losing all hope, Sand happened. Sand is located on the 1st floor of De Sovrani hotel near Salt lake sector 1. We were really surprised to see this restaurant fully active this late. Service staffs were very helpful and always had a smile on their face while taking orders and during our interactions. There was Bengali Buffet which was on going, but we did not opt for that and choose to have Chinese instead. Check out the Food ratings below : MUST HAVE FOOD : * Prawns Tempura (5/5) * Chilli Basil Prawn (4/5) * Hunan Chicken (5/5) * Wok Fried Rice Mixed meat (5/5) * lime Soda (3/5) Would love to come to this place on my next Kolkata Visit.

This place is an absolute disgrace masquerading as a “Deluxe” stay. The rooms are tiny, suffocating, and downright depressing, with chipped flooring, battered switchboards, and a bed so poorly sized that the mattress doesn’t even fit the frame—a truly disgusting sight. The so-called dry pantry is a joke, more like a cramped afterthought than a functional space. The entire place is screaming for renovation, yet it’s been left to rot. And the real kicker? I’m trapped here for three miserable days. Every second feels like a punishment. Even their so-called better Suite rooms are unavailable, meaning I have no escape from this overpriced, dilapidated nightmare. The quilt is pathetically thin, much like the management’s interest in maintaining this dump. For the money I’m paying, I could have stayed somewhere infinitely better—100% guaranteed. If you value your sanity, your comfort, or even basic hygiene, STAY FAR AWAY. This place is an insult to hospitality. I hate it with every fiber of my being.
