I recently had dined at Al-Jawahar Restaurant in Old Delhi, and while my experience was mixed, there were some highlights worth mentioning. This review aims to provide an honest assessment of my visit to this establishment.

Let's start with the positives. Al-Jawahar is renowned for its mutton nihari and chicken changezi, and I must admit, both dishes lived up to their reputation. The mutton nihari was succulent, tender, and packed with flavors that delighted my taste buds. Similarly, the chicken changezi was cooked to perfection, with a rich and robust sauce that complemented the tender pieces of chicken. For these two dishes alone, Al-Jawahar earns high praise.

However, I cannot overlook the shortcomings that marred my overall experience. The biryani, which is often considered a staple dish in Indian cuisine, fell short of expectations. It was stale and lacked the signature aromatic flavors that make biryani so enticing. The absence of spices and overall taste left me disappointed. Considering the reputation of Al-Jawahar, I had hoped for a more memorable biryani experience.

Additionally, the tandoori chicken was also a letdown. It lacked the succulence that one expects from this classic dish. The flavor was quite ordinary, and it failed to leave a lasting impression.

While the mutton nihari and chicken changezi were undoubtedly the highlights of my visit, the disappointing biryani and tandoori chicken prevented me from fully enjoying my meal at Al-Jawahar Restaurant. With such a rich culinary tradition in Old Delhi, I had expected a more consistent experience across their menu.

The ambiance of the restaurant was decent, though it tends to get crowded, especially during peak hours. The service was prompt and efficient, which is always appreciated.

In conclusion, if you visit Al-Jawahar Restaurant, I recommend trying their mutton nihari and chicken changezi as they truly live up to their reputation.

With a few improvements in these areas, Al-Jawahar could provide a more well-rounded dining experience for...

The staff is attentive and friendly, ensuring prompt service while guiding you through the menu, which offers a wide variety of dishes.

The highlight of Al Jawahar is undoubtedly its food. The mutton biryani is a must-try, boasting fragrant rice and tender pieces of meat cooked to perfection. The kebabs, especially the seekh kebabs, are marinated with a blend of spices that provide a delightful burst of flavor. Vegetarian options, such as the paneer tikka and dal makhani, are equally delicious and well-prepared.

Portion sizes are generous, making it a great value for money, especially considering the quality of the food. The restaurant is also known for its hygiene, which is often a concern in bustling areas like Old Delhi.

The dining experience is elevated by the restaurant’s location. After a hearty meal, you can explore the vibrant streets of Old Delhi, filled with historical sites and local shops.

While the restaurant can get crowded, especially during peak hours, the lively atmosphere adds to its charm. A word of advice: it’s best to visit during off-peak hours if you prefer a quieter dining experience.

Expected to have some awesome delicious Mughlai food in Old Delhi area so after checking the reviews and friends suggestions visited this place. However I was not very happy with the food. LOCATION : Its located in the busy lane opposite the Gate 1 of Jama Masjid. The road is excessively crowded with filth all around. I don't know what the Delhi government is doing. This place definitely requires dedicated pedistrain walkways or elevated vehicle passage ways as in No way people can walk without touching each other! Horrible place. FOOD: We ordered Chicken Seekh Kabab, Khamini Roti and Chicken Biryani. We were given complimentary salad. The Seekh kabab was Ok-ish. If you've had the Seekh Kabab at Kolkata at Nizams then you will definitely draw comparison to it but this is no where close. The Laccha paratha that goes really well with Seekh Kabab is priced too high! So we went for Khamini Roti which was fluffy soft roti/ bread and was pretty nice. The Chicken Biryani should be avoided, if you've had any average Biryani in Hyderabad then you'll definitely not like this. The rice used for the chicken biryani are fat! There is no flavour. The chicken itself was decently cooked and was good. AMBIANCE: In this shabby area this place was like the Adobe of cleanliness. The restaurant was clean, and washbasin etc everything was nice. COST : Well, I felt the food is definitely not value for money. It's just that If you're visiting Jama Masjid there are no cleaner option, so they are charging for that. SERVICE : Service was good. We ordered Kababs+Khamini Roti as starters and then we wanted biryani. However, both starters and biryani was served together as If we were going to have starters with main course . PARKING: There's only hardly any place to walk. Forget parking. VERDICT: This was my one time visit. That was enough.
