Had heard alot about Kakapo and even seen alot on social media. So the day I had a Qutub Minar Night walk I decided to go to Kakapo for dinner. The restaurant is located inside the complex and has valet service aswell. One has to take stairs or the lift to reach the first floor where the restaurant is situated. They also have a very nice terrace which has been converted into a more party place. Once you enter they have a hostess who takes you to your table , which could be either inside or their outdoor option. We chose to sit inside as both the seating and music were very nice. There is a large man made tree as an ornament which is used has lights and gives the ambience a wonderful charm. The restaurant is mostly dimly light and with the nice techno music feels very relaxing and groovy.
We were very tired and famished so skipped the drinks and went straight for the food. Our server was pretty good and gave us some nice recommendations. We got Beer Battered Fish n Chips and Crispy Chicken for starters.
Beer Battered Fish n Chips - The portion is the first thing which struck as it was tiny. There were 3 smaller than medium pieces of fried fish and Max 10 pieces of chips in the serving. The fish was more orley style than beer battered. It was a thick coating of batter which was light , slightly crispy and airy. The flavours were pretty good and the tarter sauce went well with the fish. But the portion was really disappointing especially for the price.
Crispy Chicken - This was like a Dry Kung Pao Chicken . The presentation was very nice on this and the portion was definitely much better than the fish. But again the portion was definitely not enough. The Chicken was very well fried with a really nice crispy outer layer. The chicken also had a nice hot and smokey flavour to it which was great. The leeks , peanuts and dry red chillies also added to the flavour of the dish.
Thai Green Curry Prawn - We had decided to go for this and another main course afterwards but after having this we reordered this again. The Thai Green curry was the only thing which was a decent enough portion. But sadly the Jasmine rice served along with it was pretty small as both times the rice would get over in no time and quite a bit of the curry would remain which I would have as a soup. But the flavours of the Thai Curry were just awesome. One of my favourite Thai curry is from Bo Tai and I can say Kakapos' definitely challenges the one at Bo Tai. The flavours are just on point , the gravy is thick and rich and full of Kafir lime flavour which was really pleasant. The prawns and veggies were cooked to perfection and had a decent amount of prawns. Overall an amazing Thai curry
Our server had given us pretty good service all along but at the time of billing him and the manager went for a toss. The manager was pretty rude and confusing and I don't like to make a scene so just paid them and left . They wouldn't honour the discount which I had from eazydiner and wouldn't remove the service charge either , which is not allowed to begin with. The billing process was a nightmare and really left a sour taste in the experience which overall would have been pretty good apart from the small portion sizes . I definitely liked the ambience, taste of food and general service but the experience was completely ruined by the billing process. Will only recommend if you are willing to fight or make a scene at the time of billing with the rude manager, otherwise please skip as there are much better places with was...
Read morePathetic experience....Had gone on 19th Aug.. Made the reservation in advance for 4. Moment we visited there was no one at the reception to assist...After waiting for 5 minutes one lady came and shows her incapability of accommodating us in the main area and asked us to move to balcony area which we had denied as it was very hot outside. She called her manager and he was so cold and also showed incapability of accommodating us. I m failed to understand that if they were not in a position of welcoming us then they should have not accepted our reservation.
The ambience was so dark that even you cant read the menu properly (very small fonts)..I used my mobile's torch to read the menu.
It was Saturday night and they were short of staff...It was really a messy arrangement.
Very cold staff , food quality was also not that wow, we had ordered Chicken pot sticker dim sums, Kakapo Margherita Pizza and Harissa Chicken.
Overall pathetic experience it spoiled...
Read moreBeen to this restaurant twice with a gap of 6 months. It has only gotten better that it already was. The Buckwheat Crepes was quite a unique appetizer and a must try. I can challenge no other restaurant in Delhi has better Sushi. Definitely try the Avocado and Mango Sushi. The Burrata, Chickpea & Sorghum salad was again a unique idea and a very interesting texture. Totally loved it. Now the sour dough pizza - we ordered the Kakapo Margherita - it comes with a generous serving of burrata, but then this is not for those who love the thin-crust or Crispy bases. I am not particularly a fan of sour dough, so did not impress me.
The asian mains were also excellent from what i remember, had tried those in my first visit.
Service is definitely excellent. This area is quite packed on Friday & Saturday evenings.. post 8.30pm.. so be prepared for that. Traffic can be a nightmare.
Overall we had a wonderful experience and looking forward to coming...
