Stellar ambience & Professional wait staff✨️. The staff was kind enough to pull up a chair just so that my wife could seat her bags🙏🏻 (without even being asked). We were offered a welcome drink (probably mango flavored tang).
There's an option of ordering from their menu or heading to the fresh catch area and select fishes that are available there to be cooked in various methods (fry, tawa grill, etc.)
We headed to the fresh catch and chose the Karimeen 🐟(Pearl Spot) & Prawn🦐. All the available catch is sold per 100gm i.e roughly Rs. 200 rs for 100 gms (for karimeen) , so a fairly decent sized 500gm fish can cost around Rs. 1000. So goes the story for prawns which is around INR 300 per 100 gms (around 6 prawns can weigh around 200 gms i.e Rs. 600).
Once you head over to the fresh catch area and select the fish, it's weighed & thereby we are to choose from 4 masala mixes (arabian, kerala chilly, kanthari & one more) to prepare the selected fish, NO Customization 😒 request to the spice levels were allowed as the person who weighed the fish clearly stated that the masalas are premixed (we like spicy food so wanted to request to make it extra spicy). Prawns were ordered to be tawa grilled in kerala red chilly masala mix and Karimeen Pollichathu ofcourse.
We ordered a seafood biriyani, wheat paratha and egg appam to go with.
The prawns were tough, overcooked beyond retribution for the lost souls of the prawns👎. This came paired with a mayo & coleslaw of sorts. The karimeen was decent. The seafood biriyani (mix of squid, small prawns, bits of fish etc) ended up being the most liked dish.
One of those experiences that left us exceedingly satisfied with the decor & wait staff while unfortunately equally disheartened by the food. The food doesn't meet the expectation set by the ambience or the service. Other restaurant like Nawras or Arippa were fairly better in my opinion.
Out of 5 stars I'd rate the dishes as :
Prawns Tawa Grill - ⭐️ Karimeen Pollichathu - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Seafood Biriyani - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bill ended up @ 2,200 with drinks (the lemon mint krusher was so sweet we didn't have to order dessert 😶)
PS : Seating was not a problem, plenty available at 8.30pm on a...

Read moreDuring Eid me & family got out to have dinner from some better place. Unluckily, most of the eateries were closed. To avoid having meat, we decided to try Cheenavala, which was luckily open. We were trying it for the first time.
Ambiance: The place is quiet big with good seating and parking facility. (Chairs were not very comfortable😬)
Food: We ordered Tender Coconut Prawn Soup, Prawns Wonton & Chicken Wonton in starters, Fish molly & Kalanji with 2 types of marination i.e Butter Garlic and their special for main course.
Review: The Starters were quite good. Presentation of Soup was different, but the taste was okayish. Both the Wontog were also good. There's total of 5 pieces of each item. What disappointed us were the main course. 🐟 molly was mostly similar to what we had from other eateries. But! But! the Tawa of Kalanji was the worst we ever had.. it literally had raw 🐟 taste. Both the marination were no were to be felt. Like the butter & garlic were nowhere to be tasted. The main reason to visit this outlet was to try sum thing fishy.. In fact, I complained the same to d captain to which he just noded and left. At least I expected an explanation, but alas! Nothing... and above all the bill.. Phew!! and Ya! To sum up experience, we had an 'overpriced Sulaimani'🙄
Verdict: Cheenavala is a place where you will be paying for lavish seating. To try sum thing in seafood I would prefer "Al Saaj" anyday which is worth every penny. Also, the price that we paid for Kalanji was way too high compared to the other best places we tried. Cheenavala is just an overpriced eatery and nothing else...
