Tanuki offers a contemporary Pan-Asian dining experience that blends traditional flavors with modern culinary techniques. While the restaurant may not be spacious (it's a small establishment with limited tables), its cozy atmosphere and Japanese-inspired decor create an intimate setting. The attentive staff ensures a warm welcome, and the background music adds to the perfect ambience. The menu boasts a delightful array of options, and the food unquestionably lives up to expectations in terms of both quality and value. Each dish displays artistic presentation with remarkable flavours. Together, the inviting atmosphere and attentive service immediately establish a sense of genuine hospitality. The sushi and sashimi platter, despite its modest size, was a heavenly delight bursting with delicious flavors. They also have unique rolls like the Avocado and Teriyaki Sushi. I tried their Crispy Chicken Bao Bun, and its taste lived up to my expectations. The Thai Kaeng Kari with fragrant Jasmine Rice proved to be an awesome choice. To complement the meal, the Yin Yang cocktail was an exquisite and memorable highlight. All thanks to the bartender, who guided us to the perfect drink choice! Finally, I highly recommend trying the Pistachio Blonde dessert, to conclude your dining experience here.

What we found most interesting, is Tanuki taking a call to open the kind of upmarket restaurant that they're aiming to be, in a city like Margao, whose main foray into oriental food has been 'chindian' in nature. Does Tanuki meet the brief, for us, is an interesting proposition. There are certain aspects of what they are trying to do, which we found appealing, from the plating, the presentation, the space, the ambition to not do the same old same old. They plan chef's special menus and run set menu dining options, they have cocktails inspired by the use of oriental ingredients and so on. The things that caught our collective eye included the special mango menu that they are currently running for the seasonal fruit. It has dishes on it that include the likes of Mango Salmon Carpaccio, Mango Nigiri, Mango Sushi Roll and Mango Sticky Rice on it. These are all big positives. But outside of that, we still feel that some of the dishes need a little bit of tweaking, in order to be a complete success. This is, of course, all down to personal preference. There is definite potential to be exploited here, and I can't wait to see how the restaurant takes things forward.

TANUKI, also known as raccoon dogs, are a type of mammal native to East Asia. In Japanese folklore, tanuki are often depicted as mischievous and magical creatures. You may come across statues of tanuki, known as "tanuki statues," in Japan, particularly outside restaurants or shops, as they are believed to bring good luck and success in business. That was just a brief about the restaurant's name. "Visiting TANUKI was a delightful experience. The cozy ambiance and attentive staff immediately made me feel welcome. The menu offered a diverse range of delicious options, and the food lived up to expectations. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. While the service was generally good, there were a few minor hiccups that prevented it from being perfect. For example, the Bokchoy/Pakchoy was cut into bits of pieces in my stir-fry (Should be bigger bite pieces to enjoy the texture), and was a bit disappointed not to find a Japanese Beer.🥹 The salmon carpaccio was twisted for indian palate. The place is small for a family eat-out. Perfect for couples. Nonetheless, the overall dining experience was enjoyable and pleasant.

The food was excellent and no doubt a 5 star to the chef, but the service was absolutely horrendous. Facial expression of the service staff, especially the waitress and her overall attitude, will make the owners think why business is not doing well, a probability 60% of customers will not return and in return you wont have a recommendation to friends and families. Just simple queries of inquiring items that were not on the menu or if the bar was open would have her rolling her eyes as if "get lost from here" attitude. We ordered the items initially of swiggy from Tanuki, which made us come for dinner very enthusiastically. With limited Asian outlets in South Goa, Tanuki stands a great chance of giving restaurants in S.Goa an exciting competition. Personally, since we as a family do a lot of dining .. our experience of the service was a total letdown. The choice of Japanese whiskey was excellent. We finished the bottle that night and also tipped our waiter who was new and had a good attitude. The waitresses we have nothing better to say as she was with her back turned when we were leaving. We thanked her, and she acknowledged it with her back turned. Her tip went to the waiter (who was running around and dancing to the tune of the waitress who just stood and called him every time we ordered, poor guy. It was a typical Laurel and Hardy situation, where Laurel keeps calling Hardy, with poor Hardy being the man taking the beating!!!) he made a good tip that night, and it felt good when he came near the door as he was surprised, which he deserved. Let us know when the waitress is well trained. Until then, we will be content ordering...

Tanuki – A Consistent Culinary Delight!

We first dined at Tanuki about a year ago and were instantly impressed. The experience was truly memorable — from their beautifully crafted interiors and soothing music to the impeccable ambiance, everything set the perfect mood for a cozy, upscale dining experience. The sushi, dumplings, and cocktails we tried back then were top-notch, and the bar setup was particularly impressive, making it a fantastic spot for a night out.

Fast forward to yesterday — we were craving some authentic Asian noodles, and Tanuki immediately came to mind. This time, we decided to go with a delivery order of vegetarian Udon noodles, and they absolutely hit the mark! The flavors were rich and comforting, with that unmistakable “wow” factor that’s hard to come by in takeout. The portion size was just right, and the quality was on par with what we remembered from our dine-in visit.

While the space itself is slightly compact, Tanuki continues to deliver big on taste and ambiance. Whether you’re dining in or ordering out, it’s clear they take pride in curating a consistently excellent experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a solid...
