In this blog post, I cover The Pasta Bowl Company, one of the best authentic Italian restaurants in Gurugram.
If an old adage still holds, the culture of a country is truly reflected through the diversity of its cuisines. Who’d know this better than the Italians!
Italian food is unarguably the most popular and well-known cuisine in not just Europe but the entire world. Italy introduced us to the world of pizza, pasta, ragu, lasagne, risotto, spaghetti, arancini, and tortellini, among others, characterized by a rare simplicity and freshness, relying heavily on quality, method, and indigenous ingredients that influence other palettes across the globe. Authenticity lies at the very core of traditional Italian cooking, with significance on preserving original recipes that were passed down from generations.
Italian dishes are often defined by regional influences. Bolognese, for example, comes from Bologna. It is the diversity by region mostly between the north and south that makes Italian cuisine so incredibly remarkable.
While remaining firmly anchored in its Italian roots, the Sicilian kitchens are known to offer both taste and authenticity. Now experience the same Sicilian flavors in the comfort of a quaint lil award-winning restaurant in Gurugram called The Pasta Bowl Company.
Located on the second floor of the popular Cross Point Mall in DLF Phase 4, Gurugram, The Pasta Bowl Company recreates the same culinary magic by serving a true mix of Sicilian flavor and culture on your platter.
The brainchild of entrepreneur Om Nayak who is also a passionate Chef, The Pasta Bowl Company started operations in April 2018. With a strong belief in ‘eat seasonal, eat fresh, and cook with love’, the 60-seater restaurant which spans across 1,600 square feet offers a unique yet affordable selection of traditional and authentic Sicilian delicacies, prepared with top-quality ingredients sourced directly from Italy.
The recipes adhere to the Sicilian home-style way of cooking food, be it antipasto, hand-tossed pizzas, salads, paninis, pasta, risottos, grilled main courses, or desserts; paired with a great selection of affordable wines and beers. Don’t hesitate to opt for wine/beer pairing with the food or simply ask the sommelier for assistance.
Here are my top recommendations at The Pasta Bowl Company.
Antipasto
Affetati E Formaggi - Loved this small cheese platter which includes different varieties of cheeses along with cured meats, freshly-baked slices of bread, toppings, and dips.
Insalata Di Barbabietola, Pesche E Menta - Enjoy this summer salad made with roasted beetroot, peaches, and mint; spiked with salad leaves and vinaigrette.
Primo Piatto
Risotto Siciliano - This dish will offer further insights into the Sicilian cuisine and culture. The Sicilian saffron risotto can be savored with an option of prawn, chicken, or vegetables.
Ravioli - How can you visit an authentic Italian restaurant and not have Ravioli! This hand-rolled dish is stuffed with spinach and ricotta, finished with garlic butter and Reggiano. I opted for tomato cream sauce with the dish.
Secondo
Salmone Al Cartoccio - The best part about this dish was that the Norwegian Salmon was slow-cooked in a paper bag. Served with beans, asparagus, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and young pepper.
Pollo Ripieno All Griglia - Don't go anywhere without tasting this stuffed and rolled chicken breast that contains soft saffron polenta, vegetables, and homemade jus.
Verdure Al Cartoccio - If you're a hardcore vegetarian, you will truly appreciate this dish. Mixed Italian vegetables slow-cooked in a paper bag, tossed with garlic butter and Sicilian tomato ragu.
Dolci
Banana E Crema Mou Torta End your gastronomical experience at The Pasta Bowl Company with this decadent dessert. Soft toffee filled in a salted caramel crust finished with fresh bananas.
The menu changes every summer and winter, respectively. If you visit now, for instance, the winter menu might already be available.
Experience Sicily; experience Italy!...
Read moreHad a wonderful dinner for my mothers birthday at Pasta bowl company!!. We dined -‘in on a Sunday evening after having taken a reservation for 7:30 beforehand for a table of 7.
The seating was good but slightly uncomfortable if you have any spinal issues or pain. Only wooden seating available with thin cushions .
The vibe of the restaurant is very dim , beautiful and relaxed, gives the feel of a trattoria , quite romantic in a sense .
The service was excellent!! By Ms. Savita who served us this evening . We ordered Fratelli Red and white wines which we excellent .
The service was a little slow but very kind and attentive hence made up for it.
We started our meal with a Vegetarian soup (minestrone ) which was exquisite and light!! A perfect starter , Saltimbocca Di pollo con mozzarella( cheese wrapped bacon and ham), served with a tangy dip , quantity was slightly less but the flavour was wonderful .
For mains we ordered 3 Chicken Lasagnas , each excellent and well prepared , did not require any extra flavour and satisfied us completely .
We also had Risotto Al Gamberu E Zafferano(Prawn and pea risotto), this was a little disappointing, it lacked basic flavour and salt and was a bit watery, would not recommend.
As well as Risotto Siciliano, it was quite good and satisfying for our guest who ordered it .( they also kindly added mushrooms upon our request), overall I would recommend the mushroom risotto, my usual , it’s always a hit.
Next we got Spaghetti Frutti di Mare( aglio olio), this was a let down as well, the seafood was overdone and difficult to chew and the flavours were just okay, did not live up to expectations. Would not recommend .
For vegetarian mains we got the Parmigiana Di Melanzane e zucchini ( a kind of layered bake with zucchini and eggplants) this was very very well done and served with cous cous, satisfying and perfect.
M the Gnocchi ai Fungi, the highlight!! The soft succulent gnocchi paired with the perfect truffle flavour, a flavour explosion!
The last main we ordered was the Petto Di Pollo Ripieno( chicken breast with mushroom sauce) this was very disappointing, the dish was ordered with the rest of the meal yet arrived about 1 hour later than the others after we reminded them a few times , we assume they forgot about it. After it was served we noticed it was very overdone and chewy. Would not recommend .
For dessert we got the tiramisu, which was the highlight , presented and plated to us live right on our table by Chef Melissa, who also kindly gave us a brief history about the dessert, it was soaked in Kahlua and gave a very unique boozy flavour that we all fell in love with.
We also got the Cannoli, pistachio which was very small in quantity but good . Not my first choice .
The cheesecakes were great, both the blue berry and butterscotch ones. One of which was kindly given to us as complimentary for our mothers birthday .
Overall very good evening , would definitely recommend this restaurant for a good Italian...
Read moreThe launch of the summer menu got me to this place. The pretty interiors, cozy and rustic at the same time that look very similar to an Italian cafe. I started my meal with a ciabatta. Crunchy bread served with a dip. It’s an Italian white bread made from wheat, salt, water, olive oil and yeast. It’s soft fro the inside and crunchy from the outside. For those fond of freshly baked bread, must try this out as it tastes delicious with the dip on the side. Affettati Misti E Formaggi : cold cut meat served with cheese. Chicken, salmon and Parma ham served with nuts, olives and cheese. Cold cuts are my favourite form of appetisers. Risotto Al Fungi Con Tartufo : mushroom risotto with truffle oil. The risotto was well cooked and the wholesome truffle oil that was added gave the feeling of it melting in my mouth with every bite. Highly recommend dish. Smoked Salmon Pizza : unlike every other cliche pizza, this pizza had slices of salmon, onions, cheese and capers. The subtle flavours of the pizza for those who prefer the taste of the Mediterranean with a zing thanks to the capers. Mezzelune Alla Panna : bacon stuffed ravioli topped with Parmesan cheese. The ravioli was stuffed with bacon and was marvellous to taste. The meat was cooked to perfection and the taste was adequately balanced with cheese. Highly recommended dish. Cannoli Con Ricotta E Limone: the sublime taste of the cream topped with tutti fruity paired with the crunchy cannoli was delicious to taste. A unique dessert that you must try ! I also tried the anguria e mentha on the side to quench my thirst on the hot summer day. The blend of watermelon with mint leaves was highly refreshing. Loved the summer menu ! I’d highly recommend...
