I recently had the pleasure of dining at Yo Tibet, a charming restaurant that promises a taste of the Himalayas right in the heart of the city. My experience at this eatery was nothing short of exceptional, and I'm eager to share why.
The moment I entered Yo Tibet, I was transported to a warm, cozy haven that combined Tibetan and Nepali aesthetics seamlessly. The ambient music and the rustic decor added to the restaurant's charm, creating an atmosphere that invited relaxation and anticipation.
The menu at Yo Tibet is a delightful journey through the diverse flavors of the Himalayan region. From momos and thukpa to traditional Tibetan and Nepali dishes, the options are diverse, making it a perfect choice for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
I started my meal with a plate of steamed vegetable momos, a classic Tibetan delicacy. These dumplings were not only visually appealing but also a burst of flavors. The thin, soft covering enclosed a mouthwatering mixture of finely chopped vegetables, subtly seasoned, and served with a side of spicy dipping sauce. They set the bar high for what was to come.
Next, I tried the Chicken Thukpa, a hearty Tibetan noodle soup. The aromatic broth, filled with tender chicken, vegetables, and a medley of spices, was a revelation. It was the perfect dish to warm up with on a chilly day, and the flavors were authentic and comforting.
For the main course, I ordered the Yak Curry and Shapta, both of which were flavorful highlights of the meal. The Yak Curry was a rich and aromatic stew, with succulent pieces of yak meat that melted in the mouth. The Shapta, a spicy Tibetan stir-fry, was a fiery delight, featuring tender strips of meat and vibrant bell peppers. The contrast of flavors and textures in these dishes left a lasting impression.
The service at Yo Tibet was impeccable. The staff was friendly and attentive, always ready to offer recommendations and accommodate special requests. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable, making the dining experience even more delightful.
To cap off this fantastic meal, I tried their traditional dessert, the Sweet Thukpa. It was a delightful surprise with its unique combination of sweet and savory flavors, and it provided a sweet ending to an already remarkable meal.
In conclusion, Yo Tibet offers a delectable journey to the Himalayas through its authentic and flavorful dishes. The ambiance, the attentive service, and, most importantly, the mouthwatering food make it a must-visit for anyone looking to savor the tastes of the region. My visit to Yo Tibet was an unforgettable culinary adventure, and I can't wait to return to explore more of their...
Read moreI tried laphing, steamed momos, and devil momos here.
The laphing had a very thick noodle layer with very little filling, but the taste was still okay.
The real disappointment was the momos. The outer maida layer was so thick—almost 0.5 inches in some parts—with hardly any filling inside. I had to leave out the huge chunks of maida because they were bland, tasteless, and felt unhealthy. The veggie filling tasted stale and seemed to be made from old, unfresh vegetables. The chicken filling was slightly better but still not juicy or flavorful—just average.
I often eat momos and don’t mind maida, because I have momos as a cheat meal, not a healthy dish, but I’m not ok when maida is this thick! I don’t understand how these momos are popular. I travelled all the way from Noida to South Delhi for this and was left disappointed. Honestly, I’ve had much better momos with better skin to filling ratio from street vendors.
Another disappointment: fridge was not working efficiently. The apple beer and coke we ordered was just a bit cool. Not chilled. Apple beer tastes best when chilled. Just cool Apple beer didn’t taste nice.
AMBIENCE: It’s near kudadaan (garbage house) and it’s very smelly and unhygienic. Never visiting this market again.
SEVICE: I told them upfront that I’m in bit of a hurry so I will compromise on my choice of dish but please recommend me what dishes you will be able to serve in 10 mins. Those dishes they recommend were served 20 mins later. The cashier lady was so unresponsive, she would listen to my question and choose to ignore me. Pathetic!
The worst part is the people who came after us were served before us. Extremely unfair practice. Forced me to get my food packed and have it at home.
EDIT: I just went through other reviews and other people also feel the same about the staff and food. So difficult to talk to and ignorant and rude. Extremely average food. So it wasn’t me. It was them. Good to have this reassurance. And the restaurant replied to such reviews as “we’re working on it” It’s been 3 months since those reviews and let me tell you, nothing has changed, I went through the same experience. Should have read those reviews earlier. TRUST the reviews guys save yourself some painful...
