I have been a regular customer of Randhal Restaurant for the past 10–12 years. Right from the beginning, I was thoroughly impressed by their quality of food, which led me to rate them 5 stars on Google, despite their exorbitant pricing compared to other iconic restaurants in Kannur.
However, my recent experiences at Randhal have left me utterly disappointed and insulted. Three months ago, during my visit, I noticed that the service had taken a downturn. The waiter and the supervisor were neither fluent nor conversant with the colloquial language of Kannur. It seemed as though they were migrants from Bengal or Assam, and while this in itself is not an issue, their inability to communicate effectively with customers was a concern.
Day before yesterday (05-02-2025, Bill posted), I visited Randhal for dinner with my colleague, who has strict dietary restrictions due to his community requirements and does not consume chicken products. Because of this we opted for sea foods.
Unfortunately, I was ashamed to witness the deteriorated food quality and service and the pathetic hygiene they maintained in the restroom …!
Despite this, we decided to give them another chance and revisited the restaurant yesterday for dinner. What followed was an extremely bitter experience that has compelled me to write this review. Our waiter mistakenly or purposely served us chicken gravy instead of our specific order. When we pointed this out, his response was nothing short of shocking. Instead of rectifying the mistake, he rudely informed us that this was all they could serve and if we were not satisfied, we could leave. This level of arrogance and disrespect towards customers was unprecedented and humiliating. Feeling insulted, I reported the incident at the cash counter while settling the bill. To our disbelief, instead of acknowledging their mistake or offering an apology, they gave us a mere Rs. 4/- discount, which further added to our insult. This token discount was not only meaningless but also demonstrated their complete lack of accountability and customer care. It is truly disheartening to see how a once-great restaurant has fallen to such poor standards. The lack of quality control, unprofessional behaviour of staff, and utter disregard for customer satisfaction make it clear that Randhal is no longer the premium dining experience it once was. Since there is no provision to give a zero-star rating, I am compelled to downgrade my rating from 5 stars to 1 star.
