We had seen a lot of reels about 'Chechimarude Kada,' and as seafood lovers, we were excited to try their food. We called ahead to inquire about the availability of dishes, and we were assured that everything on the menu was available. With high hopes, we made our way there, starving and eager to enjoy a good meal.
Upon arrival, the place was quite congested and lacked cleanliness, but we were willing to overlook that if the food delivered on its promise. However, when we began to place our order, we were told that most items were unavailable—except for fish curry, karimeen fry, and beef dishes. This was a stark contrast to what we had been told just 15 minutes before arriving. Feeling let down but hungry, we decided to order 2 meals, karimeen fry, and beef fry.
The rice was poorly cooked, and the karimeen fry, which we were really looking forward to, was quite disappointing - it was the other fish "Philoppy/Siloppia" that looks like Karimeen. The fish was extremely bony and lacked flavor—there wasn't even enough salt. The beef fry was mostly fatty pieces rather than proper meat, and the other vegetable curries were very limited. This wasn't what we had expected from a place with so much hype.
This review isn't meant to be harsh but rather an honest recount of our experience. We went there hungry, expecting a good meal, but ended up with a subpar experience and felt it was a complete waste of money. It’s incredibly disappointing when places promise good food but don’t deliver on it. If you’re in the food business, focus on serving quality dishes—people will keep coming back if they enjoy what they eat. Our experience at Chechimarude Kada was extremely disheartening, and we also feel bad for all those Instagram vloggers who are overhyping such below-average...
Read moreAfter watching a lot of food vlogs about this brand, visited their new restaurant off Palarivattom-Thammanam road. I must say the experience was very underwhelming. The food tasted mediocre, the atmosphere is too basic and the service was just ok.
Regarding food, the options available were limited. I went there mainly to try some sea food. The fishes that i wanted fried, they had only in curry form. Finally ordered a fish fry of THEIR choice (Kera - which later i understood was yellow fin Tuna) - was disappointing. The fish did not seem very fresh as the sides showed discolouration. The piece given to me was hard and chewy and there was no particular flavour. I left it half eaten. Ordered prawns roast - which was just OK - nothing great. The rice and curries were below par - with the cabbage thoran - half cooked and the mango curry tasting just ordinary.
I was sharing the table with my uber driver who dropped me there. As we picked up some conversation i asked him how he felt about the duck roast that he had ordered. His honest opinion was it wasn't that great with the duck not being well cooked.
For the meals with the above specials + 1 appam - the bill was INR500+ which i thought was on the higher side given the quality of food and the ambience of the restaurant.
A word about the restaurant - it looked a very make shift place with tables laid out where ever there is some space - mostly in alleys. The building hardly suited to be operated as a restaurant.
I must say in conclusion that the overall experience was very...
Read moreChechimarude kada is a hidden gem for food lovers who want to enjoy delicious dishes at reasonable prices. The restaurant is situated in a secluded area in palarivattom, and offers a variety of non-veg items and combos. I visited the place with my friends and we were impressed by the quality and taste of the food. We ordered kerala meals with kera curry, pork vindaloo, pork fry, and some side dishes. The kera curry and pork fry were especially mouth-watering, with the perfect balance of spice and flavor. The pork vindaloo was a bit sweet for my liking, so I would suggest having it with appam instead of rice. The sambaar curry was also comforting and satisfying. The portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant is located on a narrow lane, so it is better to go by two-wheeler than by car. The restaurant has two floors, but the seating is limited due to the space constraints. Only four people can sit on a table at a time, so large groups may have to split up. However, this did not affect our enjoyment of the food and the service. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was cozy and casual. If you are in Kochi and looking for a place to have a memorable meal with your friends or family, Chechimarude kada is a great option. You will not regret trying their amazing dishes and experiencing their warm...
