Update: June 2025: The last time I gave a 3 rating had nothing to do with food, rather with the hospitality put forth by the staff. The food during Umami 2.0 was 5 star excellent though.
This time around, during the Dimsum and Sushi festival, i give it a 4. The Nigiri, Gyoza and Dumplings were real good, though I felt it missed out a little when compared to the Nigiri during Umami 2.0. Of course this time around, it was their inhouse Chefs that were on the high table. The Salmon Makki though was average as the sauce over powered the taste of Salmon. The soy/ginger dip was good, nothing out of the ordinary.
Was it good... YES it was good... was it excellent... I wouldn't go that far... was it worth the price... debatable... But as an indulge for a change, it was a real nice experience...
A good start, that I hope they can build upon to up the punch in the flavours a bit more...
The overall 3 Star is not related to the quality of food at all... the food we had as part of Umami 2.0 was excellent.
For an establishment of this caliber, it was surprisingly a dismay to attempt to book tables. Not sure whether this was an issue with their IVR or restaurant extension not caring. For 2 hours, I couldn't get through to the Restaurant to make reservations.
Since the family was sooo looking forward to the Japanese Cuisine, we decided to drop by and try our luck. As expected, "We are pre-booked fully sir" responses came by with a tone that stirs you up.
One dialogue about how a place like Hilton gives such a disappointing experience, and they quickly said, they'd get us a seat and requested us to wait, leading us to a comfortable space to sit. However, the Drinks Menu we asked for, never came until it was time for us to seat, which we got in about 15 to 20 minutes.
Now coming to the Umami 2.0 food. The menu was short and crisp in their offerings of Uramaki and Nigiri, soups, main course and cocktails.... But we were there purely to try out the Uramaki and Nigiri... And we enjoyed them right down to the end...
We ordered their Smoked Salmon Uramaki and the Prawns Tempura Uramaki. For Nigiri, we only tried their Tuna Nigiri.
The portions if Uramaki delivered were sumptuous and flavors were excellent. We thoroughly feasted on them enjoying the flavors in full.
The Nigiri though had only 3 pieces served, were one of the largest I have had. The thought did go through my mind that if the quantity was split into more servings, it would have left an impact of having been served a good portion as with the Uramaki. That being said, it was no less than excellent as well.
Their blend of the Soy Dip too was refreshing and went well with the dishes.
We also indulged ourselves with a glass of Sunrise in Osaka… Though there was no hint of Tequila, the drink as is was quiet good.
Overall, the food experience was excellent and brightened the night in spite of the initial hiccups and hurdles.
Sadly, this was just a 3 day treat. Looking forward to Umami 3.0.
Until the next time... or the...
Read moreA mixed experience. Had a dinner buffet costing Rs. 1299 /person + taxes. The service & attitude of the staff were heartwarming & exemplary. Sadly there ends the niceties about the buffet. Food wise, very dissatisfied. Detailed review - Starting with the soup options, the veg option - brocolli soup, was way too thick & bitter & the non-veg option - chicken chaaru, way too watery. But thankfully on notifying this issue, the staff served us with freshly made tomato & spicy chicken soups (those too were better but Ok-Ok). Starters: hariyali chicken & paneer tikka - cold, but tasted nice; Basa fish fry - crispy and tasty along with the dip. Main course: the varieties & non-veg options felt very limited. Chicken curry can be described as chicken drenched in oily water. The mutton curry looked brilliant with the right thickness and color, but had an odd sweet taste that killed my expectations. Loved the soft and buttery garlic naan. Salad options were very good. They have a live chaat counter as well. Desserts: I took a whole plate full of fruits & sweets since it all looked very appealing. But sadly I ended up finishing only the fruits & could only nimble at all the sweets. Not because I was full, but because none of the dessert options were good, except for the custard pudding & pastry. Finally, this is not how a 5 star hotel buffet should have been for sure. Expected more from a Hilton hotel to be fair! Hope this helps people and the hotel improves the taste of...
