Indian Coffee House in Trivandrum is a visual treat, showcasing distinctive architecture that instantly catches the eye. The vibrant atmosphere adds to its charm, creating a unique setting. However, the food quality doesn't quite match the elevated expectations set by the ambiance. While some dishes are decent, others fall short, leaving the overall culinary experience somewhat mediocre. The pricing appears to be on the higher side, making it debatable whether the visit is entirely worth the cost. If you're drawn to captivating surroundings, it's worth a visit, but manage your culinary expectations.I recommend Indian Coffee House for breakfast. Some veg and non-veg options. My favourite is tomato omelette, chapati and masala chai or coffee. Waiters are polite and fulfill orders quickly. Building is very interesting. Atmosphere is good. Prices are reasonable.May not be ideal ambience-wise, but it has got a nostalgic charm to it. Located right in the heart of bustling Thampanoor, their chicken cutlet and coffee are a staple for me every time I visit Thiruvananthapuram. Although I haven't tried them recently, I used to like their chicken and mutton omelettes. Also, their masala dosas and poori masala are also unique due to their beetroot-based masalas.Famous Veg restaurant in kerala . It is one of old buildings in Trivandram . The restaurant is spiral in shape , the same way seats and table are arranged inside .

Food taste is okay . Not as hype . Average veg taste. Not...

The Indian Coffee House, particularly the Maveli Cafe in Thiruvananthapuram, is known for its unique spiral architecture designed by Laurie Baker. The cafe is part of a larger chain that originated from the British-era Indian Coffee Board. Following the Board's decision to close the coffee houses, the workers formed cooperatives and took over the outlets, renaming them the Indian Coffee House. The Maveli Cafe is famous for its distinctive cup-like shape and stepped seating arrangement. Here's a more detailed look at the history: Early Days: The Indian Coffee House chain started under the British, with the Coffee Board initially managing the outlets. Worker Cooperatives: In the 1950s, the Coffee Board decided to shut down the coffee houses, leading the workers to form cooperatives. Nationalization: The workers took over the outlets and renamed them the Indian Coffee House, with each branch operating as an independent cooperative under a federation. Laurie Baker's Design: The Indian Coffee House in Thiruvananthapuram, specifically the Maveli Cafe, was designed by the renowned architect Laurie Baker. Unique Architecture: Baker's design for the Maveli Cafe is notable for its spiral structure resembling a cup, with seating arranged on wide steps leading up the central column. Popularity: The Maveli Cafe is a popular spot in Thiruvananthapuram, particularly due to its unique architecture and affordable menu of snacks...

L Indian Coffee House, Maveli Cafe, is a city institution with a distinct character. Its nostalgic ambiance and vintage charm transport visitors to a bygone era. The waitstaff, though sometimes overwhelmed, strive to provide attentive service despite the challenges of the steep, winding staircase.

The menu offers a range of comforting classics, including cutlets, omelettes, and masala dosas. However, the food quality has unfortunately declined over time, losing the old taste that regulars once loved. While the dishes are still satisfying, they lack the flavor and freshness that once made this cafe a standout.

Located conveniently near the bus station and railway station, Indian Coffee House, Maveli Cafe, is a perfect pit stop for travelers seeking a quick bite or refreshment before or after their journey. For one-time customers, particularly travelers passing through, this cafe remains a convenient and affordable option. However, for loyal customers who remember the cafe's former glory, the decline in food quality is noticeable.

The future of this beloved institution remains uncertain, as the management's priorities seem to have shifted. Only time will tell if Indian Coffee House, Maveli Cafe, can reclaim its former glory or continue to coast on its...

Located at a stone's throw from the Trivandrum station, this cafe is easy to spot since it has a unique structure and a dark brown exterior. I typically loved the way it's build wherein the tables are positioned adjacent to the outer walls and the path inside is spiralled all the way till the top like a lighthouse. The menu is limited though, but it covers most of the items from snacks till main course. The food is really tasty and the prices are really light on the wallet. One can expect to get a nice satisfying meal over here. My recommendations are to try the Chicken biryani, Medu vada and the dosas from here. Plus the service is quick and the waiters are really friendly( All the people who serve here have a typical outfit ). I had visited this place with my family and had a really great time. P.S - It's really old, had started in 1990.

I had some reservations about visiting this hotel due to the negative opinions I had heard. However, its proximity to the railway station made it a convenient choice, so I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, the food was not as bad as I had expected. It was decent and satisfying, contrary to the negative feedback I came across earlier. The architecture of the hotel is quite impressive—standing at 3 to 4 floors, it has a unique design with steep pathways instead of traditional stairs. While this adds to the aesthetic appeal, it might be challenging for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. One major drawback is the lack of parking, which can be inconvenient for those traveling by car. Overall, it's a decent place with some strengths, but also a few limitations that should be considered before visiting.
