Tibetean Chef's Restaurant
at KB Jacob Road, Fort Kochi
This is a budget place located in FC... a real difficult spot to locate without the help of google maps... but worth the time wasted in finding it... dont know if it is smart or stupid, but you can save behind the wheels time by taking a jankar ride to FC... it is pretty cool in itself if you have kids with you...
started off with chicken manchow soup which was pretty normal and spicy...
then came the beef thupka... one of my friends who had done a leh trip recently had mentioned the hotness of the dish remained with him for a day... but the one i had was the nonspicy version... dont go by the image... it was enough to fill a normal stomach... the noodles and diced beef and veggies remained mostly bland, but the broth was a real yummy one and complemented the other contents beautifully...
next, the chicken with flat noodles had everything one would ask for... i was looking for noodles and the server pointed out to me that the flat pasta-like thing was supposed to be noodles... it was delicious to have with... wait for it... the star of the day... roasted beef in hunan (i think that is what they meant) sauce... this dish was so tasty, i could simple finish a plate of this just like that... it was that fingerlicking good...
left some space in our bellies for the famous avocado shake at rinoos cool bar... i promise you this delicious thick shake is worth the ride to kochi... and it costs you just what you pay for your lemonades in the city...
a great evening spent well... and to think the whole thing started with our wanting to take a jankar...

Itās on top of a houseās terrace which is converted into an area providing tables and cushions. Minimal maintenance and cleanliness thatās what my first impression was. We waited half an hour for the table to be cleaned. We asked a guy to clean the table and he said rudely in Hindi ā I canāt clean now, I have to serve thisā And he served drinks on the table where there was still dirty plates left by someone. We told him again ā Those are not our plates, please clean themā then he sprayed the table and carelessly wiped them. We felt like walking away from there but we had ordered the food prior to that. Each of the dish We ordered came in an interval of 20-30 mins. They served the fried rice first and then we waited 30 mins for the honey chicken to be served. Food is just average with lots of soy sauce and MSG. Youāll get this kind of food in any low key restaurants in kochi. Totally my experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was the 2nd time we were visiting the Tibetan Chef's place. The first time was over 4 years back, so don't recollect much from that visit. Anyway we went here to have dinner. The place was crowded. They have a ground floor and also first floor for dining. The climb through stairs to the first floor is not the easiest, neither is getting down through the metal stairs. Also the dining area in the first floor may not be comfortable for people who have trouble bending their knees.
When it is dark, there is the obvious issue of mosquitoes... So one has to be mindful of that as well. The menu is limited and it allows them better focus. The food is fantastic and there is very little to complain on. We wanted soup, but the staff said it would take time, so didn't order it. We ordered chicken noodles and chopsuey and both were good. I wound definitely go there again on my next visit, but might not...
