The restaurant is located in the heart of the city of joy. Have been to this place a number of times in my childhood but somehow we lost touch with this heritage of a place. After a frantic search on the internet for a good place to dine at, with a pocket friendly rate card, I decided to visit Amber. I came back to this place after a gap of 10 years and my oh my, I wasn't disappointed at all. The simple yet elegant decor manages to open up ones appetite. They have managed to retain most of the old staffs, the only thing which has changed about the staff is that now they sport grey hair (humour intended). For the starter we ordered Chicken Badami and Fish Orly. Unlike other places, the Chicken Badami was extremely soft. It can be said that it was 'melt in the mouth'. It wasn't chewy, but was tender and juicy. The Fish Orly was delicious too, Vetki strips fried in cornflour batter accompanied by sauted vegetables. I was missing tartare sauce so i asked the waiter as to when will the tartare sauce arrive. He smiled and said, "Sir we do not serve tartare sauce with this dish." He probably could see the sadness on my face and excused himself. Within a minute he came with a small bowl of tartare and said, "we do not like it when our guests are sad while doing the most important part of living i.e. eating". The hospitality is a big A+. Very gentle, caring and helpful management. For the main course we ordered Butter Nan, Fish Tikka Masala and Chicken Jambori. Butter Nan was soft as cotton and spread with ample amount of butter. The Tikka Masala had 6 big chunks of Vetki fish dipped in a reddish brown thick gravy, with cream on top. The Chicken Jambori is not on the menu card. It was the suggestion from our kind waiter, and it was worth taking his advice. The chicken breasts were scrumptious. Chicken breasts cooked in white sauce accompanied with veggies. The flavour of oregano, thyme and pepper in a single sauce can never go wrong. It looks like Chicken in Creamy White Sauce, but the taste is different. It has a more fresh and Mediterranean flavour compared to the latter. On a whole, we had a great dinner and were full till our head. The food, in terms of quality and quantity has impressed me to a great extent. It is a beautiful place for family time or a romantic evening with your special one. The dim light is an add on to the classy ambience. They have maintained their legacy and the flavours are intact. Overall a very...
Read moreI was a regular customer of Amber since my childhood. It's ambience and above all the food quality was something worth mentioning but lately Amber has disappointed me a lot.Firstly the hospitality and service has become pathetic, their floor managers treat customers even worse than what roadside dhabas treat their customers.Their charges are exhorbitant but in return the service is horrible.I would request everyone not to visit this place anymore as you would waste your valuable penny here.Instead there are various other restaurants which serves much better at this price. One more thing once the clock strucks 2.45pm they get in immense hurry to literally throw away their guests, this has happened with me once.I reached with my family at 2.30,the moment we sat the floor manager comes and tells us the kitchen will get closed so we have to quickly order otherwise we won't be served food and this he says even before offering us water. So we ordered the food as fast as we could but once the food comes they again get in a hurry. This time to close the restaurant, mind you we just started our lunch that time.We didn't say anything as we thought its our fault that we are late but then starts the harassement. We had ordered Mutton moti biriyani which serves kima ball and a piece of mutton with the rice. We only got a half broken kima ball in the biriyani which looked like half eaten so I called the manager and asked him abou it.The reply which I got was shocking,he told us atleast you have got one kima ball some don't get any so ur lucky that u have got one, then u shouldn't be complaining.I was literally spell bound to get this kind of reply from a restaurant of this stature. Finally when it was 3.15 we saw all the hotel staff sitting for their lunch right next to the tables around us,they don't even have the basic courtesy of waiting for the guest to leave. After 5mins we see a person comes and starts brooming the floor while we are still having our food.We somehow finished our food and left the place but I would request all not to visit Amber especially during the day as their food and service...

Thumbs up - A great restaurant with interiors which will take u back to 90s and honestly its really refreshing to see such a classic fine dining restaurant of the 80s & 90s or probably dates back even before. I really liked the the way the staff were dressed. Coming to the food we had ordered the Hara bhara seekh kebab and Tomato Soup for starters. Soup was ok but kebab was superb. It was full of flavors and the taste was very old school. It felt like the ingredients and recipe hasnt changed even a bit since its inception. For main we went for Kabuli Nan, Masala Kulcha and Butter Nan along with Dal makhani, Paneer tikka butter masala and Veg fried rice. Honestly the breads were so good that u can have it alone with pickle and onions, u dont need any other sides with it. It was fluffy and sweet and baked to perfection. Probably the most fluffiest Nans ive ever had. Dal, Dry Pindi chana and Paneer was ok not that great. Rice was really good and it was good to see vinegar onions served on the table. These days ull hardly find vinegar onions being served on the table.
Thumbs Down - Both dal and sabzi were a let down honestly. Many new restaurants are serving better Dal and Paneer than this. This actually spoilt my mood as i had heard about this place to serve really good food. However i even felt that the non veg and other kebab items shouldve been great as hara bhara kebab was delicious.
All in all it was a pleasant experience however i do need to visit again specially only for Non veg. Hoping that to be really good. Also i noticed one thing that people visit it with their clients so it seemed to be more of a business lunch / dinner place.
Price for 2 - 1000 excluding drinks 4/5*
