The restaurant has a very subtle & organic aura when you enter it's gates. The dim & soothing lighting is very comfortable on the eyes. There are mirrored walls & ceilings which never gets in the way of you enjoying your meals. The staff is gentle, warm & soft spoken, in my experience. Although, they're a little sloppy with the food as they're putting them down. So don't be surprised if they spill some of it here 'n there. The floors are tidy, so you never mind how tiny the passage to the wash room could get when the attendants are waiting at the tables. A unique feature about dining here is the paper napkin, used to put under the plates here, which has most of the iconic structures and monuments of Kolkata sketched over it along with the Metro Route clearly drawn at the bottom of the sheet. It's something that you can overlook but it's actually something not to be missed. Menu: It's clearly not a restaurant for people who want to enjoy the occasional chicken & meat n stuff. The name could not be anymore obvious that it is to plan your next outdoor dinner. It has a great many number of options of South Indian dishes; at least a dozen of variety of Dosas, to start with. Then you have the basic Indian food there as well, of sorts such as Roti, Poori, Daal, Raita - among others. It offers a healthy number of Milkshakes and beverages to wash down your throat. One of the more interesting choice of food that was on the menu was Pizzas, which normally one wouldn't find at a restaurant like this one. All in all, it's a fine way to dine if you want to catch a break from your home-made meals. It's not heavy on the wallet or burn a hole in your pocket....
Read moreAnand Vej is truly a hidden gem for anyone who enjoys authentic and flavorful South Indian cuisine. I recently had the opportunity to visit this restaurant, and I must say, the experience was delightful from start to finish. The moment I walked in, the aroma of freshly cooked dosas and traditional spices filled the air, instantly setting the mood for a satisfying meal.
The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the wide variety of dosas available on the menu. From the classic masala dosa to innovative variations like cheese dosa, paneer dosa, and Mysore dosa, every option was bursting with flavor. Each dosa was crisp on the outside and soft inside, served piping hot with a generous helping of coconut chutney and sambar. The presentation was clean and appealing, and the portion sizes were more than satisfying.
To complement the meal, Anand Vej offers a range of soft drinks, which pair perfectly with the spiced flavors of the dishes. Whether it’s a chilled cola or a refreshing lemon soda, the combination really enhances the dining experience.
The service was quick, and the staff was friendly and efficient. Anand Vej is a must-visit for dosa lovers looking to enjoy authentic South Indian taste in a clean and...
Read moreSo we had gone for buying electronic parts for a project and near the E mall we saw this place and went. It was a very pleasant surprise.
Venue/Ambiance 5/5 the décor is nice and gives a proper homely South Indian feel with the tables, paintings, masks and the plants.
Music 3/5 There was mostly Bengali music playing... it was alright but was not audible during conversation.
Main course: 5/5 So we ordered Masala Dosa [a must to have and lots of varieties], fried idly, poori …. It was really nice and felt authentic South Indian food. The coconut chutney was amazing with the right consistency and Tadka. Sambar was also good and comes with everything. The fried idly was very crunchy and soft in the middle. The poori was nice and the accompanying mix veg. was also well made
Dessert 5/5 We ordered two Jack the ripper, [must try]…. amazing combination of sweet and bitter with ice-cream, fruits, honey … just simply amazing.
So this is by far the best South Indian I have had in Kolkata so far and was very affordable as well. It felt like I was back home... definately returning...
