Hotel Majestic — Hotel in Kolkata

Sharing a very honest review about the hotel. Arrived at the hotel on 10th October 2023. The room was fine, i kept my luggage and went away for my official work.

1)Came around 7pm, there was loud music going on i totally ignored it thinking that since construction work is going on so the workers might be playing it.

2. Went inside the room, saw black insects inside the wardrobe, totally ignored this scene too.

3. At dinner I ordered chicken sizzler, and a waiter took my order, Who was so unprofessional. There was a calling bell inside the room (no phones provided) which most of the time was kept off. I pressed the bell so that I could give the order, the waiter then just pressed the outside bell and immediately entered the room( also letting you know that I went there alone for my official work) so I felt that quite awkward and unprofessional.

4)Next, he came with the wrong order. I told him and he went back

5. Another waiter came, who kept forcing me to take the wrong order and have it. And the way he talked and stared was actually not in a good way. He too without any announcement entered the room.

6. At nightI found worms in my bed (have also made a video for it)

Now, about the loud music i mentioned, there was a bar on the 1st floor where bar dancers would dance till 1am playing loud music (but of course nothing to say about this since that's the owners personal choice), the only concern was about the safety. It made me feel very unsafe no matter how much assurance the manager over there assured me about this, there was loud music, and people were shouting late at night. It was so loud that my bed was shaking. I had totally no idea about the bar and the bar dancers before booking

8. Then the next day I changed my room from the 2nd floor to the 3rd for the above mentioned issues. (I could not leave the hotel because I was stupid enough to pay for 2 nights when i checked in) Ordered breakfast, bread and jam and than they gave me a single piece of bread, where one waiter initially stated that the bread was over and a second waiter stated that they provide single bread only but but but the other day i was provided with two slice of bread.

9. Almost 90% of the food mentioned in the menu are not available, and the food too is not worth it

I have many more things to write about but I am just so tired with my 2-nights stay. So pathetic hotel, so pathetic unprofessional waiters, felt so disgusted. I am writing this so that no other person who is planning to stay in the hotel hopes for relaxation ever...

Well this is a strange one. My wife and I visited West Bengal and Kolkata in February 2008. Hotels in the city centre are quite expensive so budget (ish) travellers have the option of the backpacker enclave in Sudder Street or trying to find a basic Indian hotel. On the grounds that we wanted to try the later we booked into the Majestic which is a on older/character hotel.||||The first problem was our 3.00 a.m. arrival and being warned that they might not be good at handling that I faxed the day before to double confirm. The taxi driver eventually found the hotel and we had to rattle the locked gates for the night porter to wake up. But to be fair we were expected and were shown to a dingy but clean Indian Hotel Room for some sleep. Registration was dealt with next morning.||||The hotel is well placed in the centre of Kolkata but is the very definite "down at heel" Indian local hotel experience. The room on the second floor would probably not be to inexperienced western travellers liking, but by Indian standards was fine and importantly clean. Unfortunately we didn't know that the bar was the preserve of very loud music with girl singers being paid to sing (and more?) by the male clientèle. Quite it is not, but the bar experience was interesting to watch (once) but made sleep on the second floor difficult. When we returned after a trip to the country we asked for a room on the 4th floor. These were much better rooms but suffered from quite a bit of traffic noise. There is a very ancient lift and if you choose to walk to the 4th floor you will invariably have to step over someone sleeping on the stairs!||||We paid about 1600 rupees a night.||||So a genuine Indian hotel, clean (ish), noisy at times, quirky in an Indian way, might not suit inexperienced western travellers but actually ok in a strange sort of way.||||One tip if you do stay here but want a decent Western breakfast the upmarket Peerless Inn hotel is about 5 minutes walk away (towards the Oberoi) and they do an excellent full buffet western breakfast (open to non residents) for the equivalent of about 5GBP. Their ground floor coffee and cake shop is also great for getting away from India and a bit of Western...

FAKE REVIEWS ALERT... Rooms are not as mentioned in the photos. They are very rude af. They dont know how to manage hotel totaly unprofessional.. ive booked a hotel but i dont find hotel room as mentioned so i told them to cancel bcoz im with family.. they become very rude and also not ready to return the booking amount also they haven't mentioned policy anywhere.

GUYS SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL 1ST CHECK THEN BOOK. THANK YOU

"Note: this is a reply to the owners reply to my review" 1st thing : I haven't abused anyone. The name Mr Hawk i was talking with on the phone started abusing me by giving me bad words. When i said to refund me my booking amount as they haven't told me about any return policy and i have a chat proof too. And if I abuse anyone or talk rudely to anyone then please share me prof!!

2nd thing: I'm on vacation with my family and this is the 1st time I'm visiting kolkata.. so I don't have any personal problems with you or your hotel to defame or give bad reviews. Google hotels (Google) is a platform to share our experiences if it is good or bad so I'm sharing mine and your hotel is listed on google so show some professionalism and be open to GOOD OR BAD reviews.
