Missed our connecting train to Puri on 3/7/13, went to my regular haunt, the Broadway Hotel nearby, but found it was full. It was getting late, and my 3 yr old son was tired and hungry. So rather forced to choose a Rs. 2000/- per night room at this place. I used to visit the restaurant here as a kid myself with my Dad, who came to the bar here, some 25 years back. Now the experience.||The check in was fast, not too much hassle, and we were given a 4th floor A/C room for the 1 night as I had arranged for tickets the next afternoon. Room was spacious, clean, but the bathroom was not upto the mark. It seemed that it was hastily put together by an unskilled team of plumbers and masons!!! Not what you expect from a room at this price.||Room service was fast, food was good, a little on the spicier and expensive side. If you are non vegetarian, alone and adventurous, you might try out the eating joints in Chandni nearby, but I didnt fulfil the last two criteria so gave it a skip.||Checkout next day was ok, again no hassles. A/C ensured a good night's sleep, which we dearly wanted.||So here are the pros and cons:-||1) Location- close to C.R.Avenue and the Chandni metro, but in an annexe road, where taxis do not, rather cannot come. Chandni nearby may look seedy for some travellers. Thus, not "upwardly mobile"||2) At Rs. 2 k per night, better options in Kolkata are definitely available.||3) For service and food, plus the bar, this is a good choice.||4) The reception people, like most reception staff in India, could smile a little!!!||||Go if you are on a nice budget, and preferably solo. For a family, there are...
