Honestly I didnt like the food much. I have tastes south indian food across the city and this one failed my expectations. The taste was very average. Ambience is basic with damped walls giving it somewhat unclean look. I ordered idli and masala dosa, both very average. If you are hungry and around this locality, it's fine for fulfilling your hunger but if taste is priority, i wont really recommend this one. Staff is well behaved. ONe thing i would like to mention here... this place allows you to buy the idli dosa batter. So if you want to do it yourself, just buy the batter and enjoy with family at home safely. Although I am yet to try the batter myself, I hope it should be fine. Will try and update here asap.
Next day: Today I tried the batter at home and it is really good. I made both idli and dosa at home with the batter i bought from banana leaf and it turned out to be good, beyond my expectation. Idli was light, soft and fluffy Nd dosa also crispy... good alternative to home made batter. As confirmed by the staff at Banana Leaf, this batter if refrigerated can last for upto a week. Not bad! This is really good. Sharing pics of the idli I prepared out of the batter from here. They cane out well. Hence, batter from banana leaf......
Read moreDid you know that the most important ingredient of any South Indian food is the batter? The taste comes secondary, primarily if your batter is perfectly fermented then 70% of your work is done. We have generally tried making a variety of South Indian food at home but the batter has never turned out 100%. I am so glad that Banana Leaf, Vivekananda Park has launched their IDLI DOSA BATTER this Independence day. This was the first time I tried making idli and dosa with a purchased batter. It is extremely reasonable and the best batter I have had my hands on. The batter is made in their kitchen and not outsourced to vendors. These days people just brand and don’t make. So banana leaf quality assurance is there. And that is why the tagline is "from our kitchen to yours". Priced at ₹120/kg only. I made around 10 dosas and 18 idlis utilising the full batter. Neatly packed in a foil packet inside the brown paper bag, the batter is really smooth. You can order this online or do takeaway from their outlets in Vivekananda Road and Rashbehari. Trust me this is extremely useful and handy and I am definitely gonna order this again. You will just take an hour to prepare the full meal once you have the batter.

Read moreI wanted to have a crispy paper masala dosa. So searched for near by eateries. Then I found 'Banana Leaf' as one of the highly rated places nearby. I went there after confirming whether they are open for dine out or not. Yes they were, lots of cool comfortable tables. Chilled AC and Fan made my small waiting for jumbo dosa pleasant. Then in a big big plate it came along with four colorful eye-catching friend. Red roasted Garlic & Tomato chutney, Bright Yellow Aloo Masala, White coconuts chutney, Pale dark yellow sambar.
Unfortunately apart from the crispness of the paper dosa none of the accompanying are tasty enough to justify the hefty price tag. Aloo masala was too blunt, full of big chunks of simple boiled potato. Coconut chutney doesn't look fresh & water content was too much. The red chili garlic tomato was good and sambar is full of water with no taste at all.
But I must appreciate the helpful staff for his prompt n fast service. He served dosa and filter coffee with in 5mins. But he was unaware of the special dishes of them. All together 1* for him and 1* for the crispy dosa..
Points to improve, taste and quality of the dosa, masala...
