I’ve been here several times for their beer and snacks and have always had a good time. They serve fantastic craft beer. Despite that, the reason for the lower review is that the place is absolutely intolerable on the weekends because they choose to turn the place from a loungy sit down vibe as is designed to an obnoxious, unnecessarily loud and shady night club vibe. It brings me to wonder if I wanted that, I would visit a night club and not Cal-on where I hope to enjoy a nice cold beer without music blasting at top volume making it impossible to have a conversation with your friends and having to shout out your orders to the servers. Upon requesting them to maybe lower the volume, the manager said he cannot and I could shift to an outside table if I did not like the loud music. It was an annoying conversation to say the least as I felt his attitude was slightly inappropriate while trying to deal with our request and didn’t seem open to feedback or criticism and simply quipped back saying “I know very well how to run a restaurant.”
Although we were moved to a quieter corner of the space for which I am thankful and he did come in later to apologise for how it went down earlier, but I hope they consider this feedback and try to figure out this volume issue. I’m certain other people have had similar complaints regarding the volume of music. I certainly will not be visiting late evenings during any of the weekend days again even if it means skipping their...

I asked for help navigating the menu, since their allergen labels were more decorative than informative. The Paradise Sushi claimed to be clean—just fish and mushrooms. No dairy, no gluten. But when I double-checked, the chef casually mentioned the mayo has dairy. So… surprise? Then I looked at the lamb shank with rice—no allergen tags there either. And again, the chef had to clarify it does contain gluten. At this point, the menu might as well have been written in wingdings.
My friend, nursing a sore throat, requested a cocktail at room temperature. The first one? Great. The second? Ice-free, but fridge-level cold. When we asked for it warmer, they told us to just wait a couple minutes. Five minutes later, still cold. They took it back and returned it—still cold. I didn’t realize reheating a drink was rocket science.
Also, they forgot to bring soy sauce with the sushi. Because of course they did.
Shoutout to the sous-chef, who was lovely and genuinely tried to fix things. But Cal-On, if you’re going to act like a five-star restaurant, maybe start by labeling your food correctly and serving drinks at the temperature people ask for....

4/5 Stars
We recently dined at Cal On and had a fantastic experience, albeit with a few limitations. The atmosphere was truly 5-star, with a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for a great evening.
The service was also top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff who ensured that our needs were met throughout the meal. We had zero complaints about the service, which is a rarity!
However, the food, while good, had some limitations. As vegetarians, we found the options to be quite limited, which was a disappointment. On the other hand, our non-vegetarian companions reported that the options were good, but again, the menu felt somewhat restricted.
Overall, while Cal on excels in atmosphere and service, the menu could benefit from a bit more variety, particularly for vegetarians. Nevertheless, we would still recommend this place for its exceptional service and pleasant ambiance.
