🍽️ What We Ordered
We started with some of their most talked-about starters, and each one left us speechless: • Murgir Potli: Soft, flavorful chicken wrapped delicately—richly spiced and succulent. • Bhapa Kebab (4 pcs): A showstopper. Infused with mustard and steam-cooked to perfection, it melted in the mouth, carrying the bold and earthy flavors of Bengal. • Dhonepata ar Sorshe diye Bhetki r Elo Jhelo (8 pcs): A medley of coriander and mustard wrapped over tender Bhetki pieces—refreshing, sharp, and deeply satisfying.
Each bite felt like a beautifully told story of tradition.

🫓 Main Course: The Celebration Thali
We then moved to the Babu Culture Celebration Thali (II) — truly the highlight of the day. Served with grandeur and generosity, this platter is an ode to Bengali cuisine. It’s an elaborate feast, and surprisingly enough, it was more than sufficient for two.
Here’s what it included: • Welcome Drinks • Gondhoraj Lebu O Lonka (a fragrant lime and chili condiment) • 5 Types of Bhaja (crispy, flavorful fried items) • Bhetki Fish Fry (1 pc) – Crunchy outside, flaky and fresh inside • Mutton Devilled Egg (1 pc) – A unique take, deliciously spicy and creamy • Beguni (crispy eggplant fritters) • Luchi (2 pcs) – Soft, hot, and puffed to perfection • Basmati Rice & Basanti Pulao – Fragrant and sweet-savoury, beautifully paired with rich gravies • Dal & Shukto – Traditional bitter-sweet mix veg dish with perfect balance • Bhaja Mosola Aloor Dom – Smoky, spiced baby potatoes cooked in Bengali masala • Borishali Murgi Bata – A mustard-based chicken dish full of punch and depth • Seasonal Veg Bharta & Veg of the Day – Comforting and earthy • Mutton (2 pcs) – Fall-off-the-bone, slow-cooked magic • Chutney, Papad, Misti, Payesh & Misti Paan – The sweet finale, each carrying nostalgic home flavours • Chingri (2 pcs) & Ilish (1 pc) – The crown jewels of the platter. The prawns were juicy and the hilsa—tender, rich, and unforgettable.

"Babu Culture" is an authentic Bengali restaurant which gives you good vibes, not to mention good food at an affordable range.
I was asked by my friend to give a treat and so we were here! The Entrance is majestic, much like our Durga Dalan. The gateman was very courteous, he took me through the entrance to the inside. The place is beautiful, in all sense. From the "কড়ি বর্গা ছাদ", to the glass windows, to the wooden tables with really comfortable leather-bound chairs, to the smaller details like "কালীঘাট" style paintings ( with a modern twist) and little art pieces like a gramophone in the corner.... The interior is decorated with a meticulously intelligent mindset.
I liked the way the menu was presented. The articles, the descriptions of dishes takes to to the colonial era, to the dusty, sepia past...
For refreshment, we ordered a "Litchi Mojito". The taste was so good, we ordered another at the end of our dinner. For main course, we settled for " Mahabhoj thali", containing Bhetki Fish fry, "বেগুনি" (Brinjal fritters), "ঝুরঝুরে আলু ভাজা" (Pottato fries), Mooger Dal, লুচি (our favorite Bengali Puri), Alur dom, Alu potoler dalna ( Not a big fan of bitter gourds, but still it tastes wonderful), "বরিশালি মুর্গী বাটা" (This one is best!), Mutton curry (THIS WAS THE ONLY ITEM, THAT WASN'T UPTO MY EXPECTATION), Chatni, Papad, "পায়েস" (Most delicious) , রসগোল্লা, মিষ্টি পান (they served Paan in a Dabar which is near-extinct nowadays).
We took two Thalis, with one added items each. I preferred "গলদা চিংড়ি🍤" (The malai curry was great) and my guest selected "ভেটকি পাতুরি" (Asian sea bass, wrapped inside banana leaf). Both these Thalis were of ₹850/- each. And I must say, it was very reasonable. Final bill was just a bit less than ₹2000/-.
The utensils were all made of Bronze (কাঁসার বাসন). The waiters were very professional and all were well behaved. The restaurant was open until 11 pm, though last orders are taken at around 10pm. They play instrumental Rabindra Sangeet in a very pleasant decibel. The ambience was really good and we enjoyed every moment there. Even the washroom was aesthetic, with a bronze tap and the basin was actually an improvised bronze cauldron! The stairs were adorned with 19th century styled hand-painted tiles.
I'd recommend this place to anyone who is a lover; of food, of beauty, of culture. (Because not everyday I take this much time to review a place, until it's really worth it.) Babu culture is definitely going to be one of the greatest bengalee restaurants in...
