We’ve been going to Flurys since childhood, and it remains one of Kolkata’s most iconic establishments, founded back in 1927. While widely known as a coffee shop, it’s much more than that. Their breakfast options have been consistently fabulous over the years, and with outlets now spread across major parts of the city, accessibility is never an issue.
We especially love their fresh breads, a nice cup of hot coffee, and of course, their desserts. The continental breakfast is still a massive affair, generously portioned and easily shared by two. Everything displayed in their window tempts you in the most old-world charming way.
That said, for the prices they charge, the service really needs improvement. The staff often seem confused or lethargic—whether it’s about allotting a table or accommodating a customized order. Unfortunately, this isn’t a one-off experience; it happens almost every visit. It somewhat dulls the experience despite the consistently good food quality.
Another drawback is the cold beverages—juices like watermelon or coconut water feel pre-stored in the fridge, which isn’t worth it. These can easily be avoided. Air conditioning needs betterment surely. The kitchen door must be shut but despite telling them it remains open causing chaos and warm temperature at the sorting area. On the other hand, hot beverages are excellent and remain their strength.
Overall, Flurys continues to be a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast or coffee, with food that rarely disappoints. I’ll keep coming back, but I do hope they step up their service standards and bring in slightly more professional staff to match the legacy they so...
Read moreWe visited on shoshthi. Had gone to have regular sandwiches and wanted to see the breakfast menu for which flurys is known. It was lunch time but as far as we knew flurys serves those things all day. Our waitress told us that they are not serving those items as it is for breakfast, we were only given the pujo spl menu at first as if there was no other. So we had to change plans and ended up eating from their pujo spl menu, plus one other dish from the continental lunch. Two of the dishes arrived and we kept waiting for the third, nobody cared, then when we asked abt it, the waitress said we had not ordered it, when in fact we had a discussion about the third item as there were some personal requirements, she hadnt put it down in her order at all. Later we saw other guests in the other seating area were being served sandwiches and breakfast platters and when we asked the manager, he said during pujo they serve those items at lunch, only on request. There were so many people ordering it and being served but our waitress had simply said they were not serving. What a misinformation! The traditional bengali pulao and ilish was not the best ofcourse cos flurys is not for that but we were somehow tricked into having it from that menu only. It was such a waste of our time and money. The staff really is not upto the mark, needs to appoint better trained ppl and now Im not sure if ppl are kind of being forced to choose fem the pujo spl menu jst so that it sells. Very disappointed with the service. Felt like...
Read moreWe were out for Puja Mandop hopping and were contemplating breakfast choices when came across this flurys. Our extended family had fond memories of English Breakfast and we wanted to rekindle that. With more than 5 we were larger party than the average that came to this branch. And while we were trying to understand the difference between English and American breakfast options while also trying to decide between pancakes and another option I can't recollect, we were advised to learn the options and decide before asking someone to take the order. So for other future patrons please study the menu and try not to waste valuable time of the busy wait staff here. As for food English Breakfast as well as American Breakfasts were nice. Spanish breakfast IMHO was quite a let down. Serving Chicken Fajita on a toasted tortilla served with sour cream and spicy salsa keeps it Spanish, but definitely not what is expected as breakfast spread. May be my expectations were wrong, happy to be corrected. The order of Garlic and Mushroom served on toast were also delightful. For a place this up-market we should not have received glass with parts of skotch brite still stuck to it. But since we were served tap water & never deserved to be even asked for mineral water, I guess it was commensurate with how were treated in general. Great food choices for regular popular choices here, cosy neighbourhood place, just look and behave posh to ensure your experience matches the expectations...
