Visit Date 29 Mar & 30 Mar 2025
A Must-Visit Spot for Ambiance During our recent trip to Kolkata, we visited Hashtag twice: first with friends (Day 1) and then with family (Day 2). Location and Vibe Situated in a prime location across from the Birla Planetarium, Hashtag is an inviting pub and café known for its live music. Loud Live Music On our first visit, we found the music to be quite loud, which somewhat dampened our experience. While the energetic tunes were undeniably appealing to the crowd, we had come for a more relaxed evening of drinks and reconnecting with friends after many years. Stunning Rooftop Ambiance Despite the volume of the music, we decided to explore the rooftop, and it transformed our evening. Once we settled into the swinging chairs, we found it hard to leave. The gentle breeze, strategic lighting, and the breathtaking views of iconic landmarks like Victoria Memorial, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Birla Planetarium captivated us. On a smog free evening, the twinkling lights of traffic could also be seen along the Second Hooghly Bridge, creating a picturesque backdrop. Food and Drinks The drink selection was impressive, with a variety of house cocktails and mocktails that we thoroughly enjoyed. As for the food, we didn’t find anything particularly memorable aside from the non-vegetarian tandoori platter on Day 2. On our first day, we tried the fish fingers that had a stale taste and the Murg tikka that was unremarkable. After moving to the rooftop, we ordered a Chicken Butter Masala platter accompanied by Dal Makhni and naan, and for dessert, we had Tiramisu and Berry Merry Cheesecake. On Day 2, we headed directly to the rooftop and enjoyed the non-veg tandoori platter featuring an assortment of fish, mutton, chicken, and prawns. For dinner, we sampled Margherita Pizza, naan, Lal Maas, Bhetki Begum Bahar, and dal fry. Access The main hall is on the 8th floor, accessible via a lift that only goes up to the 7th. To reach the main area, you'll need to navigate two flights of stairs. Getting to the rooftop involves a series of steps leading to the mezzanine and then to the terrace, making it less suitable for those with mobility challenges. Parking If you're driving, free valet parking is available right outside on the main road. During both visits, we had a rental car, so our driver had to find a spot to park nearby and pay. Service If you are able to quickly shake off non-smiling, high & mighty aura of hostesses, the service staff inside were friendly and accommodating. On Day 2, we were served by Sanjiv and Souvik, who were very pleasant and helpful. A special shoutout to them for enhancing...

Read more🚫 Disappointing Experience at Hashtag, Chowringhee Road, Kolkata 🚫
As a frequent patron of various establishments in Kolkata, I must express my profound disappointment with my recent visit to Hashtag on Chowringhee Road.
Upon arrival with a group of friends, we were excited to explore this new social hangout spot. However, our enthusiasm quickly turned into frustration when we encountered an arbitrary and discriminatory dress code policy at the entrance.
Despite being appropriately dressed for a casual outing, I was denied entry solely because I was wearing sandals. Yes, you read that correctly – sandals. The bouncer cited a vague "management reserves the right of entry" rule without providing any reasonable justification.
This incident reeks of elitism and cultural insensitivity. As a resident of Kolkata, I am well aware that sandals are a common and accepted form of footwear, especially in our warm climate. To be turned away for such a trivial reason is not only insulting but also reflects poorly on the inclusivity and hospitality purportedly championed by Hashtag.
I urge the management of Hashtag to reconsider their discriminatory policies and strive to create a welcoming environment for all patrons, regardless of their attire. Discrimination has no place in our society, and establishments like Hashtag should be held accountable for perpetuating such harmful practices.
Until concrete steps are taken to address these issues, I cannot in good conscience recommend Hashtag to fellow residents and visitors of Kolkata.
