Stepping into Lord of the Drinks at South City Mall is quite an experience. The ambience itself feels like a mood-setter: dramatic interiors with gold accents, grand chandeliers, lion-head motifs, tall mirrors, plush seating and a striking 40âfoot high bar that immediately grabs your attention.
The food and drink menus are big â plenty of variety. From finger foods like smoky chilly fish, Thai spring rolls, chicken cheeseâballs to mains such as Lord of Meat pizza, mustardâcrusted fish tikka, mutton rogan josh etc., thereâs something for many palates. Cocktails are signature and fun â drinks like âMy 18th Birthdayâ, Purple Rain, Lavender Sour, Barrel Aged Negroni stand out. Even their alcoholâfree options are decent.
Service tends to be good: staff are attentive and courteous. Wait times are reasonable most of the time. Yet there are small catches â during peak hours (weekends/late evenings) it can get very crowded, noise becomes high, making conversation challenging. Also, some reviews mention that prices are on the higher side, especially for drinks or signature cocktails.
Value for money is pretty good if you're coming for the whole package â ambience, drinks, food, vibe. If youâre just after a quiet dinner, there are better choices. But for a lively night out it hardly disappoints.
Strengths:
Outstanding decor and ambience â visual feast
Wide variety of food + strong signature cocktail selection
Great for groups/friends; high energy, fun vibe
Weaknesses:
Noise level gets very high
Prices on drinks are steep
Crowded at peak times so reservations or arriving early helps
Overall, Lord of the Drinks in Kolkata delivers what it promises: a classy, energetic bar/lounge experience. If you want a lively place with good food and drinks and donât mind some noise & paying a bit premium, itâs almost perfect. Iâd recommend going in a group, maybe early evening or offâpeak to get the best out of it.

Read moreYou pay here more for the ambience I belief. That's the USP of this place.
In this Corona times, when alternate tables are allocated the manager came and asked us to sit on just the adjacent table, well that raised some eyebrows and when we were comfortably seated then a lady came in and started persuading us to go to some another table citing covid guidelines, this got a bit embarassing for us especially when he got our seats and then from there being persuaded to change the seats due to their manager's mistake was very humiliating and embarassing.
On the table when I asked the waiter about the USP or any special dish which it offers, they seem to have read out the entire menu to me which established that either the waiters were not fully groomed or else they were not aware about the especiality of the restaurant in terms of food or there is no such USP at all.
Anyways, we move forward and me & my friend ordered Beijing Garlic Chicken, Grilled chicken, Virgin Mojito and a mocktail (Raw wine with orange juice). Beijing chicken was an average dish here, Mojito was good and refreshing. Grilled chicken needed more grilling and needed to be more tender and soft, however the taste overall was not bad. Mock tail was disastrous since what was ordered and that which got delivered was a different item altogether and even without our consent they presented us a mocktail which was never ordered. And to add to the woe it tasted like a waste.
Hope they come up with better order taking process if at least cannot improve the taste standards. But all in all the place has only one USP and that is the ambience, food is over costly considering the taste and quality that was...
