Cafe Mezzuna — Restaurant in Kolkata

Located at the second floor of South City Mall, Café Mezzuna is one of the exquisite Restro Bar in Kolkata. And Café Mezzuna has started their new weekend Buffet plans which will cost you 775/- + GST. Now at the time of our visit, we chose the afternoon buffet where we are getting offered 27 different items, unlimited.

Now in the appetizer section we had,

• Baked Potato with Salsa Verde • Seasonal Vegetable Croquettes • Spicy Marinated Fried Fish with Lemon Tartare • Pan tossed Barbecued Chicken Wings

Personally, I prefer the non veg section more than the veg one, but those Baked Potatoes were just so good.

After the appetizers, lets move towards the Salad section where you are getting,

• Classic Shrimp Cocktail • Orzo Pasta with Orange Beet Root • Chicken Panzanella Salad • Hawaiian Salad • Vegetable/Mushroom Bruschetta • Assorted Bread Basket • Lavash with Hummus/ Baba Ganoush

Those Vegetable Bruschettas were just yummy! And another one which melted my heart was the Orzo Pasta.

The Soups were served in the table, where the choice was,

• Smoked Tomato & Sweet Basil Soup • Chicken & Roasted Garlic Soup

The thin crust Pizza (Chef’s Special Marinated Chicken Pizza with Fried Okra) was served in the table too. The pizza was filled with chicken and mozzarella and delish.

Now in the Main Course section we are getting offered,

• Spaghetti Agile Olio with Bell Pepper & Sun-Dried Tomato • Vegetable Lasagna • Herb Butter Rice • Cauliflower & Chickpeas Tagine • Asian Red Curry Prawns • Pan Grilled Fish with Lemon Butter Sauce • Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Pepper Jus

While some dishes of the Main Couse section were full of flavours, the spaghetti was a bit bland and an overpowering garlic flavour. The vegetable Lasagna was sweet and creamy. And my personal favourite was the Red Curry Prawns which was spicy and a treat to your taste buds.

And the part of this beautiful buffet which impressed me the most was the live Omelette Counter. Here you can choose the components of your own personal omelette and choose how to have it.

Now to finish of this meal, in the dessert section we had,

• Vanilla Bean Pannacotta • Baked Lemon Cheesecake • Caramel Custard • Chocolate Brownie • Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Chocolate Sauce

The Dessert section did not offer a huge variety but the quality was of top notch to compensate that. The Brownies were just perfectly gooey and yummy.

I'm been a regular visitor at Cafe Mezzuna and their other outlets as well. This particular place has been a comfort place for me because with each visit I grew quite the attachment to it. The food is outstanding, the perfection in their flavors, the smell of each particular dish - it all has raised the standard so high, I'd search this level of quality anywhere similar I'd go in the future too. It's simply one of the best all time places I go to and will highly recommend it to people looking for genuine quality and excellent taste and a comfortable ambience!

My visit of 22.09.2025 was a great experience due to an incident in particular. A fly had gotten inside the premises and was hovering over our food till it sat on the cup of coffee we had ordered. As fast as light, Mr. Chinmoy came and took the cup away, his reaction of noticing the fly may even have been faster than us ourselves. He came back to apologise for something he doesn't have control on and gave us an immediate replacement - another good cappuccino.

The reason I'm mentioning this particularly is because of one such similar incident I had at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata in 2024 where their whole buffet spread was infested with innumerous flies. No one there took notice of it clearly sitting on items spread along the buffet area, from main courses to deserts, flies sat all over those. When we reported it to the authorities there, they insulted us, challenged our character, and mistreated us because they were ready to do anything than just accept their fault at not having even an insect repellent machine near their buffet area. The complain we had is till date ongoing, because even with photos we took - they aren't willing to accept the obvious. Compared to that terrible experience from a place like Hyatt where I'd expect better, Mr. Chinmoy's action for a single fly at Cafe Mezzuna shows that he and everyone else at Mezzuna cares about their guests and our health compared to other places labelled perhaps even better. This difference indeed made me love Mezzuna even more because they take notice to even the most subtle things for their guests.

Cafe Mezzuna is celebrating their 10th Anniversary and they are offering the customers a discount of 25% on food & beverages upto 7th of February. Recently I visited the South city outlet of Cafe Mezzuna. The ambience is quite nice and Well decorated. They also have live music. Coming to food I tried some of their special menu's which is specially available during their anniversary special month along with there regular menu. The items which I tried includes____________________ Mushroom & Chicken Soup - The soup was thick and creamy and contained good amount of chicken & mushroom and it was served with garlic bread. The taste was amazing and it's highly recommended. The Mezzuna Fish Finger - It consisted of 5 pieces. The size of the fingers were decent and it was crispy from outside. The filling contained good amount of fish and it was going well with the gondhoraj mayonnaise dip. African Suya kebab : This is a unique dish and this dish looked amazing, 5 stick of kebab was served with a mayo dip. The soya chaap exactly tastes like chicken but it's a veg item. Buffalo Mozzarella cherry tomatoes pizza: The pizza contained 6 slices and it had cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese , capars as a topping. It was good in taste but the base was little hard to chew. Chicken salami smoked bandel olive pizza: This pizza also had 6 slices and was filled with chicken salami, jalapeno, olives. The taste of this pizza was good and it was perfectly made. Gnocchhi - This is also a very unique dish. This is basically a pasta but in a unique style. The taste was delicious and it's also highly recommended. Roubust Chicken Stew : This is also uniquely made. The dish was nicely platted. It contained two chicken pieces, smashed potatoes & white chickpea. The taste was unique and it was accompanied by two garlic breads. In Dessert I tried Valencia days which is warm orange cake with vanilla ice cream. The dessert is a must try.
