Visiting SodaBottleOpenerWala in Kolkata is akin to embarking on a nostalgic journey through the rich tapestry of Parsi cuisine, which intricately weaves the tastes and traditions of ancient Persia with the culinary innovations brought about by their settlements along the Indian coast and the British colonial influence. Located in South City, this establishment serves not merely food, but an epoch of history plated with meticulous care and respect for one of the world's oldest culinary traditions.
The ambiance of SodaBottleOpenerWala is a deliberate nod to the charm of bygone times, with its décor evoking the feel of an old-school canteen, albeit with a sleek and elegant twist. The service here matches the thoughtfulness of its environment; attentive, quick, and always with a smile, making each visit as seamless as it is memorable.
Now, about the food â it's an exploration of flavors that are as complex as the history they represent. Parsi cuisine's characteristic combination of sweet (meethu), sour (khaatu), and spicy (teekho) is masterfully brought to life in their menu. Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of Parsi cuisine before my visit; however, dishes like Dhansak, Berry Pulao, Mawa Cakes, Bun Maska, and Bohri Kheema Pav not only altered my perception but also introduced me to the innate pleasure and heritage embedded in Parsi food. With a cooking style that remains faithful to its ancient Persian roots â marked by a generous use of dried fruits and nuts and a balanced interplay of flavors â every dish at SodaBottleOpenerWala is a tribute to this enduring culinary legacy.
I strongly encourage every food aficionado in Kolkata to experience the pure bliss and exquisite delicacies offered at SodaBottleOpenerWala in South City. It's not just a meal; it's a vivid chronicle of a long-forgotten era of culinary exquisiteness, a testament to the enduring allure of Parsi cuisine, and a demonstration of how food can indeed be a pleasure, a heritage, and...
Read moreToday, I dined at Soda Bottle Opener Wala and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The standout feature of my visit was the exceptional waiter service. From the moment I walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed and valued. The waiter(forgot to ask his name) assigned to our table was not only friendly and attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They patiently answered our questions and offered insightful recommendations, ensuring that we made the best choices for our meal.
The service throughout the evening was prompt and efficient without ever feeling rushed. Our drinks were consistently refilled, and empty plates were cleared promptly, creating a seamless and enjoyable dining atmosphere. What truly set this restaurant apart was the waiter's ability to anticipate our needs, striking the perfect balance between attentiveness and giving us space to enjoy our meal.
Now, let's talk about the food. It was an absolute delight. Both the dishes we ordered was a symphony of flavors and textures, showcasing the chef's culinary expertise. Each bite was a delightful surprise, and the presentation was artful and appetizing. The quality of ingredients was evident in every aspect of the meal, and it was evident that the kitchen staff takes great pride in their craft. The cocktails and the blueberry smoothie was amazing as well.
In conclusion, my dining experience at this restaurant was exceptional. The combination of outstanding waiter service, delicious food and wonderful drinks made for a memorable evening. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a top-notch...
Read moreThe food was nice and the dĂ©cor was quirky. However, the service was shockingly poor and left a lot to be desired. From the outset, the staff came across as inattentive, slow, and borderline dismissive. They took an unreasonably long time to take our order, and each time we tried to communicate, they barely gave us a moment to speakâoften walking away mid-sentence without actually listening. There was no effort to engage sincerely, and their disinterest was palpable. This wasnât during a peak rush either; the restaurant was only moderately full, which made the lack of basic service standards even harder to justify.
We were a group of three, and at one point, two of us briefly stepped away to check out the confectionery counter since the dessert menu was taking ages to arrive. When we returned, we were surprised to find that our half-eaten dessert cup had been cleared without even checking if we were finished. Basic service etiquette like this is expected at any decent dining establishment. When one of us pointed this out to them, they had the cheeks to offer us the same half-eaten dessert cup back from where they had kept it aside... unbelievably disgusting and appalling service!!!!
Needless to say, the overall experience left a bitter aftertaste. Despite the decent food and interesting dĂ©cor, we wonât be returningâand certainly wonât recommend this...
