I went to Mocambo for a family brunch. The ambience was very elegant and simple at the same time. The staffs were cordial and the service was timely. It was a pleasure as because we didn't have to worry or wait after putting down our orders. We ate a lot! So please be patient and read everything that I pen down. For starters we ordered : 1. Cream of crab meat soup - The soup was delicious and with every spoonful you'll get some amount of crab meat, which I find justified the name. 2. Fish finger - Yes, recommending this as well. The crust was thin and crispy unlike the thick battered one we generally find. The fish inside was well marinated and fresh. We were served with a mayo dip with some condiments inside and it was delicious. 3. Fish Banjari Kebab - This one deserves a special mention and I would definitely like to order it whenever I go next and however many times I go next. I have never had a fish kebab this soft. It instantly melted in the mouth. So buttery, creamy and fresh. This is a must try. 4. Chicken tikka kebab - It wasn't anything extraordinary or out of the blue. But yes, the kebabs were on point. It was really good. I would recommend. It was fresh and the portion size was also good. 5. Chicken Ala Kiev - I had heard that this is a speciality in Mocambo, so we went ahead and tried it. Freaking delicious. Crispy crust with an explosion of butter when you dig in! Also sauteed vegetables and potatoes never tasted so great. It goes very well together with the chicken. Fresh, yes! For main course we had : 1. Chicken tetrazzini - It will look somewhat like lasagna and taste similar. The only difference is the type of pasta used inside instead of sheet pasta. It's like chowmein. Long and slender. Also there was ample amount of chicken, brocolli and mushroom. And loads of cheese. It's a delight for cheese lovers like me. All in all a great dish. 2. Mutton biryani - It didn't quite match my expectations. Very subtle and almost tasted like flavoured rice. Nothing like biryani as we know. For dessert we had : Baked Alaska - It was similar to the biryani I mentioned earlier. Very subtle, foamy. With light foamy cream, little bit of cake and loads of dry fruits inside. For people who do not like sweet stuff, it will work for them. For me, I was pretty confused after I finished eating. It didn't work out for me. Pretty bland. So yes, this is in short what my whole experience was. I would definitely love to visit 'n' number of times and ofcourse on the next visit I'll try their signature prawn cocktail which we purposely missed this time. And other signature items as well. All in all, an amazing experience. Mocambo really lived up to my expectations.

It's my responsibility to share my honest opinion about the dining experience I had at a restaurant that has been generating a lot of hype lately. Unfortunately, my experience was not a pleasant one. The food was an absolute disaster and did not meet my expectations at all. I had 3 dishes , photos of which are attached as well. Pepper Devilled Crab - This thing comes in a crab shell. Two of them to be exact . Presentation is not world class but old style rustic the way the place looks . Firstly, whoever decided to ruin an amazing crab by adding cheese to it alongside mushrooms should be hanged . My 15year old niece is a better cook and knows her seafood. This dish had everything in it from random sauce, cheese, baked, mushrooms than the taste of the sweet crab meat . It was annoying, saucy , cheesy but had any taste . Absolutely over-hyped. Eat a frozen Mac n Cheese for the same taste. Fried Prawns - These were the most rubbery prawns I have ever eaten and on top of it the oil in them. I mean , US attacks nation for this much oil . These were the most disgusting prawns ever. Weddings in the North where technically we don't have prawns have better fried and fresh prawns. Then even after two disasters I decided to order a Speciality. Chef's Recommend with the name as long as your 7 generations family tree . "Chicken Orientele A La Mocambo - Fillet of Chicken cooked in wine and cream sauce with buttered rice , mushroom , fresh tomato , and topped with asparagus, and boiled egg. IT'S TOPS THE MOST POPULAR " When arrived , I felt like murdering the entire kitchen staff and put the place on fire. This thing came with -5 on presentation in a bloody Bento box. Zero taste in the gravy, Rice were small grain with again no flavour, chopped bits of boiled egg and no sign of asparagus. The main course which was supposed to be the best was the worse. The chicken was overcooked and tough, the vegetables were undercooked and tasteless, and the sauce was bland and lacked any depth. The restaurant, had a chic and old ancient decor, which was impressive. But I had a small cockroach on my table . The service was also commendable, with friendly and attentive staff members. But none of them cared or even asked as why I haven't finished anything . They also never cared about the customer feedback or satisfaction. It was just about note the order, deliver it. However, the food was a huge letdown. The dishes were poorly executed and lacked flavor, texture, and overall appeal. It was as if the chef had given up on their passion for cooking and just threw a few ingredients together.

It was raining on and off as we entered Mocambo, one of Kolkata's best restaurants. We've tried a few of their most famous dishes. Here's the rundown: Deviled Crab (₹425): Red bell pepper, onion, and celery were minced in a food processor and cooked until tender. It was then set aside and allowed to cool. The following ingredients were mixed: mayonnaise, mustard, sherry, seafood spice, mace, and eggs. The cooled veggies were added, and the crabmeat and cracker crumbs were folded in. Flavours exploded when we pronged them and placed them in our mouths! If you visit Mocambo, don't miss out on this iconic dish. Prawn Cocktail (₹355): This seafood consists of shelled, grilled prawns in a cocktail sauce. The main ingredients in cocktail sauce include ketchup, mayonnaise, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, vinegar, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice. It was simply irresistible. The prawns were crisp and flavorful. A must-try! Baked Alaska (₹235): Slices of sponge cake or Christmas pudding are used as a crust for this iconic dish, which is ice cream in a pie dish. Meringue is then placed on top. After that, the entire dish is briefly baked in a hot oven to set and caramelise the meringue but not for too long to start melting the ice cream. Mouthwatering! I'm still drooling over it as I write this review. Dare I say it's one of the best desserts in town? The chicken fried rice (₹345) was average. Not exactly an authentic Chinese prep! Vanilla Ice Cream (₹160) was also a nice treat. Virgin Mojito (₹185) was super refreshing. The ambience was very vibrant. It was the weekend and the dining hall was full of gunwales. If you want to get the best dining experience in Kolkata, please come to Mocambo. I'd give them a perfect five out of five. But the quantity of the food may raise some eyebrows. And that drags the ratings back to four. Pocket Pinch: ₹2000 (for two) Cuisine: Continental Must try: Deviled Crab, Prawn Cocktail and Baked Alaska. Ratings ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mocambo has always been a legendary restaurant at the heart of the city. Out of the three brethren nearby along with Petercat & Peter Hu, this one stands tall with its esteem and of course the food on offer. Apart from a hiccup a couple of years ago where they denied someone's driver an entry citing dress codes (which was despicable) it has not witnessed any fall from grace in the decades that it has run. I went back there after a couple of years and tried the dishes that I thought would refresh my fond memories from there. The Devil's Crab was as delightful as ever with decadent cheese stuffed with the sweet crab meat into the shell of the said arthropod. I tried the Angel On Horseback for the first time and it was a bit of a disappointment. The dish is basically a bunch of boneless chickens wrapped in bacon and placed on top of a bed of risotto along with small sides of veggies & pasta. The chicken was chewy and the risotto was too sweet for my liking. The crisp bacon saved the palate in this instance. Now the highlight of my order was of course their coveted Irish Steak. The piping garlic butter did tingle my memories into happy places with the texture and flavour. This is one of the few steaks where I prefer minced patties over full tenderloins as they use beef instead of buffalo. However, after years, this time it was snag as the steak turned chewy after some time. I like mine medium-rare, but that's the problem with pan seared steaks that they can overcook fairly quickly if not attended properly. Summing it up, for anyone who hasn't been there, do visit and have fun reading the menu and exploring. For anyone who hasn't been there for a long time may feel the fall in flavour & quality. For regulars, please provide them constructive feedback where you feel so.

Park Street is known for its iconic restaurants and Mocambo is one of them. My wife is from Kolkata and she wanted to come here with her husband (that’s me folks :P ) With old charm, dressed-up waiters, and soothing music, A hot favorite from back in its glamorous heydays of the 70s, Mocambo is loved for its great atmospherics and hip vibes, considered one of the culinary heritage places of Kolkata. With leather seats, iconic lamp hanging over each table, and vintage decor, it feels like you've dived back in time and let's accept it, though we get fascinated by new " what is this?" theme restaurants- but as they say- 'old is gold'. Menu: it has everything. From Indian to Italian ( I2I), Mediterranean, American, what I am saying- it’s continental 😉 you see what I did here :P We Ordered- Devilled Crab- I guess it's their iconic dish (I know I am using 'iconic' word so often, but that’s how it is) – chunks of crab meat with lots of cream & cheese. When you mix anything with cream, you suppress the taste of the original ingredients. I am a lover of seafood and wanted to taste something like crab meat, but nevertheless something different- 3.5/5, But the presentation and the way it was served – 5/5 Chicken Garlic Streak sizzler: it’s not breast chicken, I think it’s minced chicken in the form of chicken steak with their in-house sauce, sizzled with cabbage and other veggies- 3/5 Fish Kasundi Kabab was special of the day, Bhetki fish grilled with sauce. I loved it- 5/5 Overall, the whole experience was superb...!! staff were courteous, service was top notch and the price was as reasonable as it should be considering you are at a great spot! Thank you!
