Saptapadi Restaurant, Golpark
Saptapadi, located in the bustling Golpark area of Kolkata, offers a delightful culinary experience with a focus on Bengali cuisine. The restaurant is named after the iconic Bengali film "Saptapadi," and its décor reflects that heritage, creating a nostalgic ambiance with photographs and memorabilia from the film industry.
The menu is a tribute to traditional Bengali dishes, with a few modern twists that elevate the dining experience. Some standout dishes include the Mutton Dakbangla, a rich, flavorful curry that brings out the best of Bengali spices, and the Pabda Sorshe, a delicate fish preparation with mustard sauce that is simply sublime. The Kosha Mangsho, a slow-cooked mutton dish, is another must-try, perfectly tender and packed with flavor.
One of the unique aspects of Saptapadi is its emphasis on seasonal ingredients and local flavors, ensuring that the food is always fresh and authentic. The use of mustard oil, panch phoron (Bengali five spices), and other indigenous spices creates a depth of flavor that is quintessentially Bengali.
The staff is courteous and attentive, making the dining experience pleasant and comfortable. Service is efficient, though the restaurant can get quite busy during peak hours, so reservations are recommended for weekends.
In terms of ambiance, Saptapadi strikes a good balance between casual and elegant, making it suitable for both family outings and more intimate dinners. The soft Bengali music playing in the background adds to the charm.
While the prices are slightly on the higher side compared to local eateries, the quality of food and the overall experience make it worth the splurge. Saptapadi is a great choice for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Bengali flavors in a cozy, nostalgic setting.

Read moreWent to this outlet , behind city style triangularpark on a sunday afternoon for trying the buffet lunch. This restaurant has 3 floors, on first and second floors, ala carte and thalis are served, buffet is served only in 3rd floor. On sundays, the restaurant remains tremendously crowded so prior reservation is recommended, if you are planning to celebrate birthday, anniversary or bachelor party. Our experience was not upto the mark. In buffet area, the sitting arrangement is very cramped, you can literally touch the persons sitting on the other tables. Floor manager is confused person. Waiters are very slow to refill the food items which are getting finished in the buffet spread, people are waiting but refilling is not being done, pathetic. Now coming to the food, 2 veg starters were average, 2 chicken starters were good, fish fry was average, required lots of kashundi to make it palatable. Rice, pulao and luchis were good. Mutton, chicken and prawn were very very average, pieces were hard ,chewy and full of bones, gravey utterly tasteless. Surprisingly, veg items were better, alu dum, dal, jhuri alu vaja , mango chutny were tasty. Aam panna sarbat was good, and in dessert section, rasgulla, langcha, musti doi were good. Overall the food experience was not upto the mark, when chicken, mutton, prawn and fish are tasteless, mediocre then how can you call it good? Those who are praising the food of this restaurant either have not tried good tasty bengali food or they are overwhelmed by the vast spread and gulping whatever is available. Price for the buffet was 944 per head which was relatively high for the quality of food and service of the staffs. Overall not enjoyed the buffet, wont recommend it. Probably the ala carte would have...
Read moreYesterday 29th of the October was my first visit to this restaurant and I won't say I'm too pleased with this place. My first time here wasn't that pleasant but the theme of Uttam and Suchitra really caught my eyes and I really wanted to try out the authentic bengali food served here. Me and my family visited this place and we were really happy to see pictures of the great actor and actress all over the place with a touch of bengali ethnicity all around. We ordered the Jumbo Thalis for our main course and Macher Jhuri for our starters. The starter was good but the problems occured with the main course. Bengali food is best enjoyed when served piping hot. It wasn't even hot, it was more of lukewarm. Every dish inside the thali were lukewarm, the mutton and chicken dish was cold not even lukewarm. The corners of the table were infested with cockroaches. Our "kashundi" dip had a worm sitting on the spoon provided with the dip. When we told the supervisor about the food being cold he told us the food had come in piping hot and must have gone cold due to the air conditioning which is not true at all cause the mutton was cold when it was served on the first place. Indeed I didn't like my first experience to be this unpleasant I hope the manager checks the food quality first then send it out to the guests. We weren't offered any finger bowls, no accompaniments after lunch at least we can expect "paan" to be served on the table before the guest asks for the bill. The food is expensive. The staff loves to clearing plates even if the person is eating still then. Pathetic behaviour not to be expected from a restaurant so popular. If the standards have dropped to this level I don't know if I should recomend this restaurant to...
