This was the first time I have walked out of a restaurant! The team here is in an absolute despicable state (despite the visible buzz and social media coverage that brought me here in the first place). Went there for dinner on the 21st of April (you will find my number in the register with the last digits being 6609 instead of 6809 as the hostess was the security guard) expecting a decent hearty indo-chinese meal hoping to have a new option to frequent in the area among the classics that have been around for decades.
Was seated on a dirty table (I'm from the industry and completely understand how it gets in a busy evening). A server promptly arrived to buss the table and hence it was acceptable. However, he missed a couple of used crumpled up paper napkins in the corner which I happily cleared my self.
Placed an order for the pork bao, some pad thai and a dish on the side. I was told the bao would take 40 minutes and so I advised the server to serve whatever is ready. He came back 20 minutes later, placed the dinner plates (one of which were visibly chipped) on the table mats and announced that the bao was unavailable. I politely exclaimed that he could've mentioned it earlier and the 20 minutes would not have been wasted. Nonetheless, I complied to the restaurant's ordeal and ordered for a pan fried cream & cheese dimsum instead, which was repeated and acknowledged by the server.
The server arrives another 20 minutes later and swiftly serves dim-sums on the plate, as if trying to get away with something, and he sure was! The dim-sums were steamed!! I again, politely, informed him that this was not my order. He simply said that the restaurant does not serve cream & cheese dim-sums pan fried. Slightly irritated now, I again told him that he should've informed me at the time of placing the order to which he just kept trying to make me eat the dim-sum. Comedic but in a rare occasion, I was definitely irate at this moment.
I thought objectively and concluded that perhaps it was my bad luck to have been assigned to an untrained server, so I got up in search of a manager or supervisor or just anyone confident of their product and service design. I found a gentleman in full black to whom I explained the matter, to which he said 'ok' and absolutely nothing else. Another gentleman standing nearby also decides to walk away. I asked the gentleman in black if he is going to do anything about it, to which the kept silent. No resolution!
I did not walk away that night because there were mistakes made (for many that would be reason enough), instead I walked away because the entire team there were so insensitive and did not even have the courtesy to apologise - just a 'im sorry, give us 10 minutes and we'll serve you the correct order' in whatever language they are comfortable in, would've have been enough! There was sense of responsibility shown by single team member that night. A table of ladies seated before us were shouting at the server regarding food and services which we mistakenly ignored. A man who came with his mother also decided to leave with us fearing the worst! This is not good for a relatively new business as the aged Krystal Chopsticks across the road got 3 extra tables that night!!
Please look into it. Beyond disappointed. If this was the west there would have been a definite lawsuit popping out from somewhere.
I hope to be a well...
Read moreShanghai has multiple branches across the city all claiming to serve the flavours of China Town. It was my first time at their Gariahat branch but after tasting their food I think it's far better idea to go to actual China Town of Kolkata.
Ambiance is nice for family visit but their service is extremely slow, although behaviour of the staffs was good. We ordered below items as per their recommendation.
Dimsumps Chicken Sui Long Schezwan Style @ Rs.210 (1/5) Chicken Basil Old School with Oyester @ Rs.210 (1/5)
Both of the Dimsums tasted really bad and absolutely not recommended. Although it was served in premium way still, I'll say don't take dimsums and never ever take their unlimited dimsums buffet, you'll be so much disappointed.
Starter Chilli Pork Dry @ Rs.370 (4/5) Takrai Chicken @ Rs.290 (1/5)
Chilli Pork was very tasty still not comparable to authentic Chinese pork slices of China Town but Takrai Chicken was a joke, neither it tasted good and the pieces were shamelessly small. But when we asked staffs did compensate with few more pieces.
Mains Hunan Fish @ Rs.335 (4/5) Bulgogi Chicken @ Rs.335 (2/5) Hofan Chicken Flat Noodels @ Rs.250 (3/5) Shanghai Special Fried Rice @ Rs.260 (4/5)
Hunan fish and Shanghai Special Rice was quite impressive and recommended. Hofan Noodles were okay but I’ve tried far better flat noodles before. We didn't like the flavour of Bulgogi chicken that was recommended by their staff.
Conclusion This place is okay for family visit, behaviour of the staffs was good but they’re slow. Food quality is below average and prices are somewhere okay. As I said before if you’re looking for actual good Chinese food then you should visit China Town directly rather than someone who claims to serve the same quality food but miserably...
Read moreIt was a horrible experience. I went there with my brother's to celebrate Rakhi but they made it the worst one..It's not about Sanghai chain of food restaurants... It's particularly Gariahat Branch. The manager is ill behaved and fraud at the same time. Food quality is inedible....We ordered starters, mocktails, Chowmein, mixed fried rice, chilli fish and a chicken item. All the mocktails "Blue paradise and untouched mojito is made up of complete water and has no taste at all." We ordered 2 bowls of mix chowmien and 2 bowls of Rice one is chicken and another is mixed rice. They served us 2 bowl of chowmein and 1 bowl of rice. We were waiting for the next one after almost half an hour we call the manager and asked for another one. He simply said it was already served to us. We had a conversation and when I asked to check them cctv how many bowls were served he admitted his mistake and serve us. Chicken item was prepared with stale chicken when we complained about that he totally denied and paid no attention.. we have paid for the food we were not able to eat a bit. The entire was waste and we had to pay for that. Moreover, I had a coupon which I have received from Thakurpukur Sanghai Restaurants and has validity till 30th September he denied to take the coupon and starts forcing me to download Zomato and pay through that. When i denied to do the same he said he wont help it And I have to pay the entire amount.. Started arguing And I paid.
Never ever go to this branch of Sanghai... you'll be il treated with extremely bad quality of food. I am sharing food bill, coupon pic, stale food pic along with that...
