Bonne Femme — Restaurant in Kolkata

Bonne femme I don't know who is the owner of this restaurant but I must agree he/she has some good taste in food and literature, the name bonne femme comes from french language , and it mean " In the manner of a good housewife " , well today we decided to go out for lunch then we both looking for a good dine out , basically I'm typically Bengali with lots of weakness with various kinds of fishes, but she chose her meal depends on mood , first they guide us towards the table which was small not sufficient for us , so I told to Priya please allow us to another big one , thank you for that , We both were enjoying the cozy ambience of the restaurant , the whole restaurant was very well decorated each and every corner , Then we started to order some foods and drinks 😄, first I ordered a classic lemonade 🍋 that was so refreshing and they serve it literally classic homemade lemonade , she ordered orange 🍊 mocktail , I don't know how was it, she told me it's good that mean the mocktail was sweet 😄 , after this I ordered so many foods . I was too much hungry today, their 🦀 crab kulcha was so delicious, this is the first time of my life I enjoyed crab meat without any trouble of breaking crabs in restaurant, and they serve it with a sauce which was extremely tasty and flavour was delightful, ( it's like you eating 100 of seafood at a time ) she ordered bonne femme chicken salad 🥗 , quantity was good , taste was average 👍, then I ordered a plate 🍽️ of chelo kebab 🥙 , ( lamb ) I'm absolutely disappointed with this plate 🙂, the whole chelo kebab was not well cooked, actually the outer coating of kebab was good but not properly cooked inside 😔, and it was very oily , please chef try to make it less oily, tikka kebab was good , At last I ordered some fish 🥰🥰 fish stake was so good various types of flavours , thank you chef for this item it was so delicious with that rice cream and 🫛 beans pesto sauce 🤤 🤤, At last I tried some 🦐 with black paper sauce, it was good but don't use too much garlic 🧄 in it ,she tried some dessert daab delight, she told me it was good . flavour was Creamy and juicy, And all the staff need to be more confident while you are dealing with customers, I paid around 3000 something but I removed the service charges, that means you all need to be careful about service and gratitude ,the manager too who was in sky blue shirt , after all of this I...

Whenever a restaurant is named bon femme and located at a rather accessible busy street corner people will expect you to cook up a storm and be the new talk of the town.I mean that's what you can be with a lot of paid reviews and good digital marketing nowadays while it's doesn't matter if the food actually sucks.

I am sure a lot of the reviewers (or rather the chefs) never care to watch good chefs preparing the perfect dish or good authentic reviewers like anthony bourdain.These people separate the apples from the oranges and really curse the hell out of the bad ones with the kind of reputation that they have.

I'm sure none of our vloggers or reviewers have the idea of what they're having compared to the original dish both visually or by flavour.

I'm no Anthony bourdain or Marco pierre white or Gordon ramsay but the food here is pretty bad.

We ordered scotch eggs which did look the part..but the meat had no flavour and the yolk was hard as a rock while it should have been runny or half done.

Next we ordered tandoori prawns which were like the size of nuts..with a price tag of around 400.

If you don't have good prawns just tell the customer to order something else..not a pea sized charcoal rubbed maggot.

The star of the show was the paella..or some sort of fusion i guess.Guys just listen to me.

Every fusion is a confusion if it doesn't taste good. I've tasted paella and it isn't bland and fishy of all things. Dont advertise making things that you cant do justice too. Ruining a well known dish from a spanish cuisine is a crime and a fish dish shouldn't always mean it has to taste of the rotten ocean floor.

The desserts did recoup the damages to a 1 star though as the dab delight was satisfactory which is a coconut panna cotta on a daab base.I would suggest reducing the grain and making it smoother for the daab shash texture. The tes leches was the only respite..and the taste was good although i would prefer a little less cream on top for the perfect experience.

To sum it all up PLEASE donot try to make and advertise things that are out of your domain and stick to the bascis as in the end as wise men in the culinary world say it all boils down...

One of the rare gems in the town. Must visit place. Strongly recommend.

Ambiance was so good, I just loved the vibe. I have visited this place during pujas still quality of food didn't deteriorate.

Variety of options. Good service.

I would term this place muti cuisine restruant considering availability of lot of variety of food options including many bengali style dishes.

Starters Tandoori Prawn (Fresh Big size Prawns made my day. 6 pieces in one plate) Bonne Femme Grilled Chicken (must try, served in barbecue sauce, too good)

Main Course Swaralipi fish (must try, just yummy, Kolkata Bhetki) Gondhoraj Chicken Stroganoff With Garlic Parsley Rice (must try) Kolkata Chicken Biriyani (so so)

Merry Berry (beverage, okish)

Deserts (must try) Daab Delight (Less sweet) Tres leches (yuummmy)

Biriyani was Kolkata style, very light but too less spices, so only rice you won't be enjoying. But with little potato, egg and chicken it's tasty.

Overall experience was good. Overall costly. .......................................................................... Updating my experience based on my second visit in the same outlet within a month of previous visit.

Even though the place is costly, due to the quality of food being served here, we visited this place again, this time in some wkday evening for dinner to enjoy some different dishes of this place.

This time we tried below items... Mushroom Soup with Truffle Oil (yummy for the Mushroom lovers) Goan Fish & Soul Curry Chicken Chapli Kabab (yummy) Bonne Femme Grilled Bhetki (great taste, continental style)

Main Course Daab Chingri Paturi (yummy, must try, signature dish) Parmesan Biriyani Chicken (yummy, different flavour in mouth with Biriyani and Parmesan Cheese)
