We finally visited Shankar's Fry take away located at Triangular Park near Citi Style. The menu is limited and based on the recommendation from various sources we tried Fish Pakoras, Fish Fry, Chicken Pakora and Chicken Cheese fry.
They self proclaim to be the king of Fish Fry which unfortunately they are NOT. It had very thin fish and was very very dry. Will not recommend at a price of Rs90.
Fish Pakora on the other hand tasted little better than the Fish Fry. It had a moist chunks of fish which tasted good but had a thick batter. You can give it a try. They serve 2pcs for Rs60
Chicken Cheese Fry, this was not worth the hype and tastes very average. This again had a very thick layer of batter and soaks up oil like a sponge. Although the chicken was moist but the cheese filling was insufficient and didn't taste that good as shown by the youtube bloggers. Will not recommend at a price of Rs90.
Lastly chicken pakora (we packed this for home), tasted average with thick batter. Unfortunately in our case the chicken was not cleaned properly. Found chicken guts inside the pakora. This was priced at Rs60 for 2pcs.
Here are few Pros and Cons as per our experience:
Cons: Expect a long queue with a minimum wait time of 15 to 20mis during weekends. Items are cooked in advance, so dont expect sizzling hot fries. Tomato and Mustard Sauce is served in the same plate, which makes the items soggy. Request them to serve the sauce in a seperate plate.
Alternative suggestions: Walk up to Priya cinema if posible, which is not too far off and you will get a lot of small outlets like Burnt Garlic where good rolls and momos are served.
Suggestion to the owner/management: work on your food quality and pricing.
Final verdict: Very average shop with average tasting fries. Will not recommend if you have high...
Read moreShankar's Fry in Triangular Park, Kolkata, is more than just an eatery; it’s a slice of nostalgia. For many, this iconic spot has been a part of their culinary journey for decades, serving up fried delights with a side of warm memories. The ambiance may be simple, even a bit dated, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a place where time seems to have stood still, allowing regulars to relive their youth with each visit. The menu remains largely unchanged, offering a variety of fried snacks that once set the benchmark for street food in Kolkata. However, it's hard to ignore that the food quality has slipped somewhat over the years. The once-crisp and flavorful offerings can occasionally feel a bit oily and less vibrant than before. Yet, despite this, the allure of Shankar's Fry endures. It’s the kind of place you find yourself returning to, even if just to savor a piece of your past. While it may not be as exceptional as it once was, Shankar's Fry remains a beloved spot, worth a visit when you’re in the mood for a trip down memory lane. It’s more than just...
Read moreFound very large rat with very long and thick bushy tail spreading its flea rubbing it on all the fries in the middle height glass display shelf.... During the evening shop time. While we customers were looking at the rat from outside. That is the level of this shop now. Very old customer of this shop under original owner (You can see my review of their other outlet to get an idea of how long at the bare minimum). Would strongly recommend against eating anything from here in the interest of hygiene and quality which are non existent, and have completely disappeared. While the father was alive, things were good. Later when he died the son and daughter would alternate every evening, for some year. Now they no longer sit here... And the random employees who sit here now appear to have very little value for these things, so it's actually worse than even a street hawker who is at least careful to not let at least the final cooked/fried food be walked over by rats, and diseases that will be...
