A Disappointing Experience
I recently visited this restaurant with my father, and unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. The restaurant shares its space with a cafe named Piccadily and has a rather seedy appearance. The lack of a lift meant we had to climb aging wooden stairs, which were dirty at the corners and had dusty railings. To make matters worse, we noticed sweaty clothes hanging from a hook on an open door along the way.
Upon entering, we were greeted by an indifferent look from the waiters—no smile, no welcome. The whole restaurant was empty except for a bunch of waiters chatting away casually. They ignored us. When I asked where we could sit, one of them just gestured vaguely, leaving us to choose a table at random. Shortly after we sat down, another waiter sidled over to tell us that since we were only two people, we should move to a different table. The whole experience felt unwelcoming and disorganized.
Ordering was through a QR code, and the menu featured a variety of dosas, vadas, and other South Indian snacks. The food itself was decent, with the dosa and vada being tasty, and the chutneys were flavorful (though serving nine bowls of chutney with one dosa felt excessive and wasteful).
The biggest letdown, however, was the lemon sevai. Instead of the authentic, freshly prepared version you would expect at a South Indian restaurant, it turned out to be instant sevai, blanched in hot water and tempered with peanuts and curry leaves. For a place that presents itself as a South Indian eatery, this felt disappointing and inauthentic. If I wanted food made from a packet, I could have done that at home.
The final bill came to around 1000 rupees for two fresh lime sodas, one dosa, two vadas, and the lemon sevai—which felt overpriced given the quality and presentation. While the waiter did make an effort to be friendly, the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
I hope the restaurant takes this feedback positively and makes improvements, especially in terms of ambiance, customer service, and authenticity...
Read moreIncredible choice for South Indian lovers. Guests are welcome with a shared signage with that of Piccadilly Square. Both chutney company and Piccadily Square are owned by the same owners and have done pretty well in maintaining their name. The old buildings of Dalhousie houses both these amazing restaurants and see waiting time of more than 15-20 minutes in some cases. Parking is an issue as you cannot park on the main road. You have to go behind the governor's place and Park your vehicle there. The seating space is Lavish with wooden flooring and ornate decors across the walls. Service is wonderful as there will be many people surrounding you to serve you.
Food: welcome to the world of chutneys. The amazing palette of chutneys will greet you. They have garlic chutney, tomato, spicy coconut, onion and the like. The dosas are savoury and can be had with the Rava version, or the normal version. Thanks to Piccadilly Square we can have waffles, pancakes, Pizzas, crepes, burgers etc. I chose the focaccia sandwich where you can custom make your sandwich just like Subway. The pancakes are bliss. The waffles and donuts, especially the chocolate ones are amazing. Although the hazelnut Donuts was a bit dry, but the pancakes were superb. The mexican burger was also very good. Coming to the shakes, the banana caramel shake stole the show. We also had chocolate hazelnut shake as well, which was pretty well upto the mark. We signed off with signature filter coffee and wow what a coffee. All in all we had a great Experience At The chutney company. Great food. Great decor. What else...
Read moreIf you are in the mood for a good, often experimental, South Indian food, this would be the place for you. They have great food and great coffee. Since this is the Piccadilly Square establishment, you can rest assured that all will be well. This unit is located in the office district, and is bang opposite Great Eastern Hotel. I will recommend the Utthapam. This is a terrific restaurant for the vegetarians who like South Indian cooking. The chutneys a d breads are interest and fresh. Everything is house made. Though we didn't eat dessert, it was tempting. Lots of cakes and gelatos. South Indian Food is definitely good !!!! The service as regards to time taken to get in the food is fast. BUT the service of the staff is horrible and very indifferent. They are hardly bothered and lack the professionalism which is probably because of lack of training. Much that I would love to have the food again would not like to visit the place. Hopped into cozy south indian eatery cum cafe on a rainy day and it was delicious experience. Though I'm not quite an idli dosa lover but the food served here are unique, varied and tastes one of a kind.We had Mysore Masala dosa which was sufficient in portion and along with the assorted plate of chutneys its ticked all the boxes. We had Hazelnut coffee to soothe the cool rainy weather, which although was a bit pricey but was great, for dessert we had a blueberry cheesecake which was, may be not excellent,but...
