Aswad Hotel is renowned for its delectable cuisine and warm hospitality. Whether you're a local looking for a fantastic dining experience or a visitor seeking authentic Indian flavors, Aswad Hotel is a must-visit destination. Let's explore the mouthwatering dishes and delightful ambiance that await you at this iconic establishment.

Ambiance: Aswad Hotel offers a comfortable and inviting atmosphere that combines traditional and contemporary elements. The interiors are tastefully decorated with a focus on Indian aesthetics. The seating arrangements are spacious, ensuring a relaxed dining experience. The attentive staff is always ready to assist you with their warm and friendly service.

Breakfast: Start your day at Aswad Hotel with a delicious South Indian breakfast. Indulge in a plate of piping hot idlis (steamed rice cakes) served with coconut chutney and sambar (lentil soup). The crispy vadas (lentil fritters) and fluffy dosas (rice and lentil crepes) are also highly recommended.

Snacks: For a quick bite or evening snack, Aswad Hotel offers a variety of tempting options. Treat yourself to the famous Misal Pav, a spicy curry made with sprouted lentils, topped with farsan (crunchy mix), and served with soft bread rolls. Another popular choice is the Kothimbir Vadi, a savory and crispy coriander fritter.

Thali: Indulge in the flavors of Maharashtra with Aswad Hotel's Thali, a wholesome and satisfying meal served on a large platter. The Thali consists of a variety of dishes such as dal (lentil curry), vegetable curries, rice, chapatis (Indian bread), papad (crispy lentil wafers), and a sweet dish to end the meal on a delightful note.

Specialties: Aswad Hotel is famous for its delectable Maharashtrian dishes. Don't miss the lip-smacking Sabudana Vada, made with soaked tapioca pearls and spices, deep-fried to perfection. The Batata Vada, a spicy potato fritter, is another crowd favorite. Pair these snacks with a refreshing glass of Mattha (spiced buttermilk) for a delightful culinary experience.

Sweets: No meal is complete without satisfying your sweet tooth. Aswad Hotel offers a range of traditional Indian sweets to tantalize your taste buds. Try the melt-in-your-mouth Puran Poli, a sweet flatbread stuffed with a flavorful lentil filling. The Gulab Jamun, a deep-fried milk-based sweet soaked in sugar syrup, is also a popular choice.

Beverages: To quench your thirst, Aswad Hotel provides a variety of refreshing beverages. Enjoy a glass of Kokum Sherbet, a tangy and cooling drink made from kokum fruit. For a hot beverage, try the aromatic and flavorful Masala Chai (spiced tea), prepared with a blend of spices and milk.

Aswad Hotel in Dadar West offers an authentic culinary experience that celebrates the rich flavors of Maharashtra. Whether you're a food enthusiast or someone looking to explore the local cuisine, this restaurant is sure to leave a lasting impression. In life its always said, don’t keep high hopes because if it comes crashing, its hard to handle the disappointment. And that’s what exactly happened when I decided to give it a run after a series of high praises from various famous food vloggers across Instagram. Hopes were dashed and I was smacked into submission. We also had to wait for around 30 mins to grab a table for a not so good dining experience.

Things we tried:

  1. Misal Pav (Their record breaker) (🌟🌟🌟):

The Misal had the flavour infused of all the authentic maharashtrian spices but I don’t know somehow it did not have the X factor to stand out. Its was well balanced no doubt but nothing new under the sun. I have had better Misals in Lonavala and Thane tbh. The quantity was average but sufficient for a person. But I was really expecting some skin in the game after all it is labelled as the ‘Best Vegetarian Dish in the World’ but it didn’t live upto the billing at all. Hope for a delectable and flavoursome experience but it just turned sour.

  1. Maharashtrian Thali (🌟🌟):

It was too sweet to go with. All the dishes had a sweet taste and they lacked basic taste and didn’t treat my taste buds well. This was quite a let down and I feel this needs to step up to give the customers a good dining experience.

  1. Sol Kadhi (🌟🌟🌟):

It was refreshing no doubt but again not the best balance of ingredients and bang average. Better Sol Kadhi I have had in Fishland restaurant Thane.

I am sorry but this was...

😟 An Overhyped and Disappointing Experience at Aswad Hotel, Dadar For the past year, I had been hearing rave reviews about Aswad Hotel in Dadar. My previous attempts to visit were thwarted by the consistently long queues and waiting times (usually over 30-40 minutes). Finally, yesterday, I had the time and patience, and after a 40-minute wait, we were seated.

Despite the pleasant ambiance, the food quality was surprisingly poor: ( can rate 1/5)

Kothimbir Wadi: This was less Kothimbir (coriander) and more like a plain besan (gram flour) wadi, with an estimated 95%+ besan content.

Misal Pav: The misal curry was unexpectedly sweet.

Puri Bhaji: The bhaji (vegetable side) was served as a dish so sweet it tasted like a dessert. When I asked for a replacement, the kurma they offered was also very sweet, like a dal (amti).

Our entire meal was ruined; we ultimately left and ate at another restaurant.

I'm genuinely puzzled as to why Aswad is so highly rated. Given the poor quality of the food, especially its overwhelming sweetness, it seems entirely possible that the high ratings are due to paid reviews or are a result of the restaurant being severely overhyped. I suspect it attracts first-time visitors who are drawn by the hype, rather than having a base of genuinely satisfied, repeat customers (unless they specifically prefer overly sweet misal and bhaji). ...

Known for its Maharashtrian cuisine, I landed here one afternoon with my mother for a quick lunch. Thankfully, there was no waiting as we were early but yes we had to share a table. We ordered Masala Bhaat that was served with kadhi, papad and gravy. The rice had tendli (ivy gourd) and peas. The entire dish was ok, the kadhi was liked more than the rice. We also had the Pithale Bhaji Bhakri which consisted of rice and jowar chapatis, a brinjal gravy, thalipeeth masala paste and besan paste. Served with spicy red garlic chutney, this is a must have! The service was quick and the waiter courteous. Ambiance is like any regular restaurant, the focus is on the food, however they don't try to rush you off like many of the South Indian joints in Matunga do. The food is inexpensive considering the quality and authenticity. Do visit if you are in the area! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On my recent visits, I had the unusual Puranpoli Icecream which tastes absolutely amazing and is a must have! Two big pieces of Thalipeeth smeared with white butter and served with a yogurt based chutney is a mini meal in itself. Misal Pav, Kothimbir wadi with the dry garlic powder and a single Wada Pav served with some fritters are other dishes I recommend.
