If you're anywhere near Matunga East and your cravings are leading you towards something delicious, flavorful, and comfortingly local – DP's Hotel is a name that needs to be on your radar. A long-time favorite among college students, families, and foodies alike, this spot has stood the test of time. I dropped by for a casual evening bite, and here’s the lowdown on my experience.
🍛 FOOD REVIEW:
🧈 Pav Bhaji – 4.5/5 Easily one of the best in town! Rich, buttery, and full of flavor, it strikes the right balance between spice and tanginess. Served hot with toasted pavs, this dish is a total crowd-pleaser. Definitely a must-try!
🍺 Fruit Beer – 5/5 An absolute nostalgic winner. Served chilled, this non-alcoholic classic is a throwback to simpler days. Fizzy, sweet, and perfectly refreshing – it complements the spicy food beautifully.
🍯 Honey Chilli Plum Potato – 4/5 A delightful fusion starter. Crispy potatoes tossed in a sticky sweet & spicy glaze, with a hint of plum that sets it apart. Would’ve loved it a tad spicier, but still very satisfying.
🍨 Gadbad (Mangalore Special Dessert) – 3.5/5 This colorful layered dessert has all the potential to be a star. However, mine I had whe the ice cream partially melted – which unfortunately dulled the magic a bit. If you're ordering this, make sure it comes straight from the freezer. That said, the combination of fruits, jelly, nuts, and ice cream is still worth trying once!
🏠 AMBIENCE & SERVICE:
DP’s isn’t trying to be a fancy fine-dine, but it delivers big on cleanliness and comfort. The vibe is casual, with fast-moving service and staff that are polite and efficient. It’s the kind of place where you can chill with friends, binge on some desi snacks, and leave with a full heart (and fuller stomach).
✨ PRO TIPS:
Come early in the evening to avoid the post-college crowd rush. Grab a seat inside for a more relaxed dining experience – outdoor seating can get a bit noisy. Try their iconic milkshakes and dosas if you’re coming back for round two – they’re tasty!
Overall, DP’s is a true Matunga gem. Consistent, value-for-money, and packed with flavor. Whether you're a first-timer in the area or a long-time local, this spot deserves a visit – and maybe even a second helping.
💬 Rating: 4.3 / 5 overall Would definitely recommend for casual dining, snacking, or those nostalgic food runs...

Sadly i never did all this, literally, all of this, never done it. I always spent time away from college, stepped in the cafeteria once and left seeing all the strays walking all over the kitchen, but yea, i know the general cafeteria vibe
The very same vibe is what you get in DP, kinda surly servers, the din of kids talking, laughing in a carefree manner, kinda like horses and the same cafeteria rates
The pav bhaji here is supposed to be in the top 10 ranks, supposedly Numero Uno, me, I am not a pav bhaji expert, but I liked what I had here, the normal one as well as the special DP, which seems kinda royal with all the cheese, butter and the dry fruits in it, the dry fruits, even though look odd in a pav bhaji, make it kinda tastier, putting it a league apart from the rest
The dosa i tried was the spring dosa, pretty decent, filled with spring roll stuffing. The dosa in itself felt kinda floury for some reason, but had some fine tasting stuffing
The paani puri is like every other, just looks different, but the same stock paani puri taste which u would get at any other place. I like mine with ragda though, not boondi or mashed potatoes.
Looking at the desserts, it was a hard choice on what to ordered, first we went for the gadbad, but sadly it was not available, so the thing we chose, even though kinda sceptical, was the ice cream pizza, which is basically round vanilla sponge cake, covered with fruits, berries, a thin layer of ice cream and tons of sweet syrups and sauces. Surprisingly, no matter how incoherent it look, the tastes kinda went well together
The only thing that I absolutely abhorred was the masala pav, slathered in what seemed to be uncooked tomato puree, never having it again
All in all, this is a good place for a date where u want to make your significant other have relive the college experience, when actually you are low on funds
P.s. do try their fruit beer, pretty refreshing and great when it comes...
