I regret my visit here. Extremely slow service. The food is also not up to the mark. We had palak soup which was nice, not necessarily excellent but comparing it to the other items we had ordered, it was much better. The veg 65 we had ordered was extremely salty and had a gravy, which is not mostly present. We did get it replaced. The second batch was slightly less salty and palatable. For main course we had ordered Chinese, mushroom fried rice and triple schezwan rice. But both looked and tasted more like pulao because they had cloves and whole pepper. The entire time the waiter gave attention only to my father disregarding the others. He also served food with a lot of haste. Our bill had extra charges, which they explained to be of the permit room. No one had told us that it was a permit room where alcoholic drinks are also served. Infact one of them had ussured us there saying it was an AC room. There was no sign anywhere saying that the restaurant also has a bar. As a family We don't visit restaurants with bars. In short...
Read moreWe have been to this restaurant before and it was better then. We ordered the filter coffee, paneer chilli, spring masala dosa. The coffee was priced at a nominal ₹40 but it didn't had the same authentic taste of the South Indian filter coffee I have had before it was quite watery. The paneer chilli had no sauce like taste. It was just 8 pieces of paneer, they were soft with just spring onions and cabbage. It was just fried and it had no sauce to it. We had to ask for the sauce set for it and was provided with a ketchup bottle. The price of paneer chilli was ₹160. The spring dosa had a schezwan chutney which was very spicy. We had to ask for the normal coconut chutney to eat it with. The spring masala dosa was stuffed with cabbage and capsicum - again no spices. The taste was bland. It cost us ₹120. The service is sparse and not of the typical South Indian restaurants. I was quite disappointed by the entire scenario. I hope they make changes in...
Read moreA typical Udupi restaurant, Mayur has been around for at least 3 decades. Perhaps some of this is nostalgia (I used to live close by), but it's remained consistently good in that entire duration. The safest bets are bound to be the South Indian fare: dosas, idlis, wadas and of course, the filter coffee. There's an attached bar area, which is great during the peak of summer if you want to chill out with a beer or two. I visit occasionally and will usually order a dosa or a wada. The sambhar is authentic, which is more than I can say for a other similar restaurants that have modified it for sweeter palates.
Since it's on the corner, the traffic can get noisy at times, but that's the only caveat.
Udupi restaurants like this always have the best...
