The Mexican Box — Restaurant in Mumbai

Mumbai / Bombay we had a handful of restaurants when it came to authentic MEXICAN food. Delivery or Mexican food which had an an amazing packing , good ingredients , good food , can't think of any THE MEXICAN BOX started maybe a month back. Firstly congrats to the team to get this product right. Many have tried and failed or given an Indian touch to it.

Mexican Box there is authenticity written all over.

Was lucky to try some vegetarian dishes yesterday.

The Nacho Man - DIY kit which included home made ( in house ) crispy nachos with condiments such as queso sauce , refried beans , salsa , sour cream jalapenos , mexican macha chilli oil , red radish and to garnish spring onion. Start was just perfect. Crispy nachos.

Crispy Veg Taco - when it says crispy it meant that. Here the chef has used Gremolata ( green sauce ) quoted avocado slices. Arugula for by sharpness , refried beans ( a must in mexican food ) salsa to get that tangy spicy touch and to balance the same sour cream and shredded cheese.

House Special Section

Try their veg enchiladas. Heavy rich full of flavours.Basically it's soft tortilla stuffed with onions trio of beans some peppers. Their special enchilada sauce made in house ( tomato ) which was balanced well with aromatic flavours and herbs. Cheese and baked. This was served with condiments like Mexican rice , tomato salsa and sour cream. A meal by itself .value for money.

Last but not the least their signature heart shaped Mexican pizza. Burst of flavours. Tangy Mexican sauce. Cheese jalapeno spring onion and sour cream. Super thin with a nice crust. Do try this

Overall , this place has a lot of potential. Authenticity at its best. Go for it. My next round would be their non veg dishes till...

For Mexican food lovers, this is the best place to feed your desires, quite literally. We ordered in this food coz we were bored of the daily rigmarole and really wanted to try something outside of the usual. The idea of this place popped into my head since I had seen some people recommend it on Instagram. Here's what we tried:

Grilled prawns burrito: the prawns were grilled al dente, just enough to make the meat not lose its sweetness but enough to season it and add flavour to it. The accompaniments like the salsa and the guacamole were just the cherry on the top. Brilliant.

Chicken enchilada: I've been missing this dish for so long. I last remember having a good enchilada as a teenager at Cream Centre. The dish was super lovely with piping hot beans and a super balanced enchilada mix. Just loved it.

Grilled prawns quesadilla: the grilled prawns again were a good one. The quesadilla was soft and thin. Didn't overpower the meat too much.

Prawns taco: the prawns taco was bae. It was the highlight of my night. Just loved the crispness of the taco against the  sweetness of the meat of the prawns and the flavour. Loved it.

We really had a good time. The food was large portion sizes and these things were enough for atleast 3 people. We really did enjoy the food and can't wait to try...

Ordered a naked Burrito bowl via Swiggy. Starting with the ordering, they say choose 10 add ins, but they don’t even have that many for vegetarians. So opted for all that were veg. The order was delivered in nice big box , but the actual bowl was the size of a normal Aluminum foil takeaway size that you find with most orders. Disappointing in terms of the portion considering how the meal is priced.

What was more disappointing was that the whole thing was so dry, and the accompaniments (just 3 including a sour cream and salsa) came in the tiniest of packing. Probably 5 ml and I’m not joking . I would be happy if the folks at the Mexican Box come back saying that this is a one off anomaly. Else I think they should really be embarrassed at what they have sent and someone needs to give them a rude wake up call.

If I may put in a suggestion in terms of a constructive feed, kindly have options of different salsas and sauces that one can choose among the 10 odd add in’s that you offer. And at least send a decent portion of Salsa and sauces especially when you haven’t added any in the bowl.

Disappointed with this experience. Hope it was a one off and the team is able to utilise this feedback.
