I'd heard great reviews about House of Ming and finally decided to visit it for the first time yesterday, despite having lived in the city for decades.
I'm not sure if I'd visit again. Here's why: •The spring rolls were average. I've had tastier spring rolls at so many other restaurants that aren't even authentic Asian restaurants. •The mushroom and truffle oil dimsum was alright because it smelled amazing and the filling was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. •Our server, Uday recommended the purple potato and beetroot dimsum. It was interesting, different but once again, not something I'd order again. He was kind enough to get us the edamame chilli dimsum as a replacement. •The soups, Mings lemon soup, and hot and sour, were good because they were made less salty especially for us.
Overall the so called spicy food wasn't spicy, but I'm glad the food wasn't heavy on salt.
Just when I decided I wouldn't visit House of Ming ever again, we got the assorted greens in black pepper sauce, the hand cut multigrain noodles and the burnt ginger celery fried rice. •The rice was brilliant even without the gravy. •The noodles were fantastic. Much better than any other pad thai I've had •The assorted greens were fresh, crunchy, tangy, salty, spicy, just right.
The main course really saved the day and a big thanks to Uday for being a fantastic staff member.
Still not sure about another visit but if I do come back, it'll be only to have the...
Read moreI went on a date here as House of Ming was suggested by one of my close friend. I am really big fan of Taj since I know about hospitality industry in general. I booked a table for two approximately a month ago before date to avoid any inconvenience. The staff really helped me book the table in jiffy over a phone call. The parking facility was very easily accessible. The front desk staff gave directions for the restaurant and luckily I was on time. The Restaurant manager was really courteous and understood the occasion of visit and even gave us complimentary dessert. Coming to the ambience of the restaurant, it's done delicately and beautifully. We were allotted a table which didn't hindered the privacy. The service speed was really good and the server serving us gave really good recommendations. I was really impressed with his knowledge about food and beverage. Coming to the food section, the overall taste was really satisfying for the taste buds. We ordered Prawns & water chestnut black bean chilli dim sum, Steamed mini roast duck bao and Fried sichuan chicken wonton. To add cherry on the cake complimentary dessert was given by the courtesy of the staff. Overall my date went really well, my date was also really impressed with the hospitality of House of Ming. Cheers to the team of House of Ming for such brilliant...
Read moreThe renovated House of Ming is much airier and open than its earlier avatar. The design isn't to our taste but certainly better than what it was before. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. The food was good. Starters were very good and the mains were nice as well. Service was on point and prompt. However, there was a shortage of staff. The restaurant was half empty on the Sunday night but yet one had to struggle to get the attention of the over worked staff. The prices have naturally been increased by a lot, after the renovation and the global rise in costs of most things.
Sadly they don't offer a Sunday brunch or a dimsum brunch. Shame, as that is a norm for most excellent Chinese restaurants around the world. 4 stars for the food. 5 stars for service.
Certainly recommend House of Ming to those who have eaten here before. The food was good. Is it as good as China Kitchen (At the disputed Hyatt) or Shang Palace (at the Shangri La).. you may decide...
