After having a rather underwhelming experience at the thrissur branch, we thought of giving their Ernakulam branch a shot.
Walked in on sunday during lunch time, and we were seated promptly.
We ordered a smoked brisket platter, an Ultimate amash 2.0 burger, brisk & smash burger, and a Neopolitan inspired Pizza pollo arrosto (roasted chicken).
Soon after, the place was absolutely packed and we were attened to by Ms. Sania.
The pizza was really good, very well made in the proper pizza oven (not the electric oven), the high heat causes the dough to really expand and also brings out the best of the crust, but only if made with great quality flour and it seems they have done that here.
The smoked brisket was good, better than the one I had in thrissur last week although I'm told they're both the same. This felt a tad more softer & juicier than the thrissur one.
The ultimate smash 2.0 wasn't too bad either, and the brisk & smash too felt very similar except the 80 gram addition of brisket in the later.
Overall the food was all good, could it have better ? Sure.
Whilst the pizza was being served the server had her thumb underneath the pizza, between the pizza base and the plate which is a serious hygiene and health violation. I pointed it out and she immediately realised the mistake and offered to replace it for me, which I declined. I mention it here because she knew it was a mistake and yet did it because it goes unnoticed, although she did mention the pizza was hot, which is understandable, but not excusable. To make up for the mistake she did come to our table twice to check on us and to ensure if the food was to our liking.
Something worth mentioning and that needs to be corrected is that the burgers are prepared on the ground floor and carried to the 1st floor on the narrow communal staircase, same is the case in thrissur, but that's atleast within the restaurant. Here the staircase is used by others businesses, patrons, who use the building and carrying the food exposed in such a manner seems a little lazy (for lack of a better word).
For sure, the place is definitely worth the visit, but several things need to be improved, especially with regards to the customer interaction and overall staff training.
After 3 of the items were brought and when we were done one of the waiters asked us if he could get the bill or if we needed anything, only when I reminded him that our brisk & smash burger was pending is perhaps when the order was placed to the kitchen.
Once the restaurant was fully packed, I felt like the staff was overwhelmed and needed a few more pairs of helping hands.
I have no qualms with regards to the food, maybe slightly on the...
Read moreWe had huge expectations for this place. The service was super slow right away, which was oddly the first impression. I had seen their video of the Stracciatella E Secchi Pizza on Instagram, but I was unsure if the pizza already had burrata in it or if we should add it as an add-on. I talked to two of the waiters, and they were unaware of what burrata is. We still ordered the pizza along with the Butcher's Club.
The pizza was cooked well, no problems there. However, the tomato base could be better. I've had better ones in Bangalore. The classic basil on the Margherita could have been better, but the leaf on the pizza was out of place both aesthetically and flavor-wise. The cheese was so overwhelming that it was weighing down the pizza. Mom wasn't happy with it.
Coming to the Butcher's Club, I again had huge expectations. First bite, and I could feel the crust across the patty, decently seasoned and juicy. But on the subsequent bites, the crust felt a tiny bit harder to bite into. Maybe it's the infusion of bacon that made it feel that way.
We followed it up with hot chocolate, which was a huge letdown. Too thin, and I could barely taste the chocolate, it was more cocoa. Finally, the bill was what surprised me the most. Funnily, I have a habit of not looking at the price while ordering. The pizza was priced at ₹850 and the burger at ₹680. That's more than what I pay in Bangalore or even Mumbai. For Kochi, that's extremely overpriced. Yes, we can talk about using prime ingredients, but don't all restaurants do that, or at least aim to? I cannot fathom the price for the food that was served.
Also, the menu was all over the place. I'd say lose the Italian and try to perfect one cuisine. Because you know, multi-cuisine...
Read moreTried a burger here recently — cost me ₹380 (don’t remember the exact name). Here’s the short version: Patty? Good. Bun? Meh. Sauce? Barely enough to notice. But honestly, the food isn’t the biggest problem here — it’s everything else.
Let’s start with finding the place: It’s a mess. The joint is tucked away in a building that looks more like a maze than a commercial space. You enter through the back, climb a set of hot, narrow stairs to the second floor (because the ground floor isn’t serviceable), and you’re expected to feel excited about your food experience? Come on.
If you’re coming with family or elders — don’t even bother. The lack of a proper entry, the confusing layout, and the stairs make it more of a fitness challenge than a casual dining visit.
Parking? Also a joke. There’s barely space for 3 cars in front, and the only other option is underground parking that’s shared by a bunch of other outlets — a salon, a gym, and more. So good luck finding a spot, especially in the evenings.
Inside the place: You’d think after all that hassle, you’d be rewarded with a cool place to sit and relax — nope. No AC. No ventilation. It feels like they’re trying to save on electricity at the cost of your comfort. It was so hot inside, we just wanted to leave as fast as we could. Even if the food is okay, sitting there long enough to enjoy it feels like a punishment.
Final Verdict: Unless you live right next door or are ordering delivery, this place is not worth the effort. The burger might be alright, but the overall experience is just too inconvenient, uncomfortable, and frustrating to justify the price.
Rating: 2.5/5 – Not...
