A buzz word in town, Grana Pizzeria has been hyped up but a lot of people for serving authentic Napolitana Pizza.
I went on a Sunday evening and boy was it crowded! It's during these crowded times can we really know how well a place offers their services and unfortunately, in the service aspect it was unfortunately a complete let down! The manager was running around all frantic, people not getting seated and felt like a chaotic environment and all the while the owner was just standing there, almost as if he was clueless on how to handle the situation - Not a great start!
The atmosphere was good with ample seating (although not ready for the large influx of people during the weekends!) with an open and laid back kitchen.
Now, coming to the food, we ordered the Extra Margherita Pizza and Pork Pepperoni along with a Lemonada drink. They took their sweet time to bring the food out, so that wasn't pleasant, however, the Margherita was spot on or close to spot on! The dough was one of the best I've had in Kochi and the pizza was light and airy with a proper hit of the cheese and sauce. I'd recommend the Margherita, no questions asked! However, the pepperoni was a enormous flop. The pizza was extremely sour and salty, which in my guess has to do with the pepperoni they have chosen. We are 2 slices and didn't want to eat anymore (but packed it!). The sourness definitely gives out a strange sensation gastronomically. I'm not sure if this was a one off situation as I have had a lot of people tell me it was great when they tried. One more side we ordered was the truffle mushroom pizza dip. Not sure which was worse, the pepperoni or the dip!
Overall the experience certainly did not live up even remotely to the hype and I hope they'll improve their service because the food is not cheap! We're looking at Tier 1 city pricing in Kochi with this.
I'll visit again for sure, have to give at least one more chance and hope that this was a...
Read moreWe came here for dinner and we were immediately greeted with a 2 minute wait time, so make sure you arrive earlier than when you plan to eat. The place itself has a nice open vibe to it and the food was as follows:
Chilli cheese caper garlic bread: this was a nice thin bread, almost like a mini pizza. It had a lovely texture and had decent flavor, but one fault would be that you could barely taste the garlic. Im not sure if that was because the garlic oil/butter itself was lightly used or if it was overpowered by the other flavors, but considering how extremely difficult it is to mask the smell of garlic, I think it was the former.
The pork bacon sausage pizza: the crust was a meal on its own, it was nice and cheesy and represented a stark difference to what we have at pizza hut or dominoes, since this is meant to represent napolitan pizza. It was juicy and just barely below "too greasy", which was perfect. The caramelized onions gave it a sweet twist and all in all this was a great pizza. Size is equivalent to a medium pizza, with 6 slices total.
Vanilla Panna cotta with strawberry compote: soft, smooth almost jelly like, and coating the mouth with a decidedly vanilla flavor. The compote added another fantastic dimension to the dish and gave it a slightly fruity sour note. We had no complaints with this dessert and highly recommend it.
All in all, a good experience. The main downside to grana would be the wait time. We waited 40+ minutes from ordering till we actually got our pizza. The total cost for the three items was around 1350 ₹.
TLDR: Long wait time, average garlic bread, decent pizza, fantastic panna cotta,...
Read moreMy review is for takeaway, I have not visited the place and cannot comment on the ambiance.
The food is excellent. I've had the Garden of Eden pizza twice now and it's great. The caper chilli cheese garlic bread was overly cheesy and dense - probably tastes better fresh out of the oven. Lots of vegetarian options. The sauce and the dough both tasted flavourful. I put the pizza in an oven for a few minutes before consuming and the base was not chewy or dense, just right.
My low rating is for the service. They have not figured out how to deal with takeaway orders at all. They prioritize dine in customers.
This was my third time ordering. I placed an order at 7 PM. When I followed up at 8.15 for the bill I was told that they had forgotten about my order, and that it will take another hour for them as it was "rush" time. How is that on me?! We got into an argument and then they agreed to expedite my order in 10 minutes (which itself made me nervous about getting something half cooked).
Then after more follow ups they sent me a QR code for payments which was giving me problems (error on their bank's side). When I called and asked for a solution they washed their hands off it and expected me to come up with a solution. Frustrated, I told them to cancel my order and left them a text message saying this was really disappointing service. Later they called back offering to send me the pizza for free but it had already been more than 1.5 hours and I had decided to order from somewhere else.
TL;DR do not order takeaway from here if you're hungry, it can take up to 2...
