Excellent upscale restaurant serving a variety of continental and Indian foods!
Le Gourmet Cafe is located in an odd part of town near MG Road which isnât White Town. However, the moment you step inside youâre immediately taken aback by the ambience!
The restaurant is located upstairs with a view of the street. Downstairs is their other flagship cafe Bouche Sucree, which is also located on Romain Rolland St.
Dropped by for dinner having read rave reviews and the place didnât disappoint. I ordered the Vietnamese Rice Paper rolls for starters and the Paneer Asadhu curry (inspired by Fish Assad curry) for main course. The curry is typical Pondicherry Creole food which is hard to find anywhere else except for maybe the Bel-Ami restaurant on La Bourdonnais St.
Both the dishes were exceptionally flavoured! The Rolls had a tangy quality with the tamarind sauce and the curry had a delicious creamy gravy based in coconut milk and khuskhus paste. I might even try recreating this dish at home. They even served Yam (Senai Kilangu/Suran) chips with the curry, which almost nobody serves in a restaurant!
The vibe is very mellow and itâs not too crowded, maybe from not being in White Town. The service is excellent and the staff are very polite.
I am definitely returning here in the future to try their exhaustive menu of...
Read moreWow! We just had probably the best multi cuisine meal we have had in India. We were alone in the restaurant on a hot afternoon. They turned on the A/C. We ordered two dishes each and I had a Budweiser with rice as an ingredient which I have never seen in the states. I'm from Oregon, so we have rice lagers, but I did not know Budweiser made one. Anyway, the food was spectacular: Thai seafood salad - I thought I was in Thailand. The Jamaican chicken was great and came charcoal smoked. My friend's Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese was as good as any I've tasted in the states, if not better. They already get mostly 5's here and now I understand why. Great place in...
Read moreBeen here thrice and I have never been disappointed by the food: the service is quiet and warm, the interiors are cosy and the menu is eclectic and enjoyable, the portions are ample and the prices are reasonable.
It is a quiet little restaurant to go on weekdays and I hope to visit more often.
My only worry- knowing how the restaurant scene in Pondy works - is hoping this restaurant gets enough patrons to keep it going on weekdays. I've been the only customer every-time I have visited and while it was a pleasure to have the place to ourselves, I hope the restaurant finds moderate success so it stays around for...
